Gentleman,
What are your thoughts on this piece of legislation? Is it similar to other
states? This seems to castrate our Fire Marshal and provide a means to have
a lot of un-protected buildings throughout our state.

Probably wont add to the debate on USA systems but as Chris says NZ systems
use "drop in pressure" alarm. For many years NZ govt specs had a clause
requireing valves or plugs to remove trapped air. This was always ignored
and waterlogged systems always produced false alarms. Relief valves and

Thom,
The architect, court designer, sprinkler designer and owner felt that given
the circumstances institutional sidewalls were the best albeit not perfect
solution to suppression.
According to the court designer the upper sidewalls represented the least

An old fitter, perhaps wise, told me one should always throw a simple swing
check before a RP. This way once the high pressure stabilizes past the
first swing check the RP doesn't burp anymore. I don't know if that make
sense? We don't do RP's in these parts. Simple swing check is all that's

While "Institutional Sprinklers" may sound like the best option, I'd suggest
you read the literature closely.
These heads are "Tamper Resistant" not impact resistant. Because the
element/cover forms the smooth rounded center of the head, this exposes it

Somehow I think that the purpose of the Inspectors Test Connection has been

is that the only purpose it serves is to "Test" the alarm device.
Are there other benefits that can be had from a remote location? Possibly.

Hear! Hear, for the let's drop the ITC at the end of line discussion

I say let's stop saying we want a remote ITC when what we really need is to

What is the best most affordable way to do that? A combination ITC/Purge? If
we accept some air trapped in systems, how much is too much?

the one Chris describe
Air is not coming through the city mains. It's trapped when filling the

Interesting that you state the installation of the ITC at the riser being a
