Group,
In NFPA 409 (2004) I see reference to sizing of redundant fire pumps Air Force
ETL 02-15 but I'm missing the section that specifically requires the redundant
fire pump for a group I hanger. Can someone help me out?
Thank you,

Look at NFPA 13 8.15.22.3 2010ed.
Note that the section only says only on one side so I'm not sure it would
apply to your configuration.
Next option is Vertical Openings 8.15.4.

I would like some input from the group about what type of flexible fuel hose
you are using. Are you using hose that is specifically listed for diesel fuel
or just general hose that has fuel noted as a typical application?

If I have concrete tee construction (28 deep and 6'-0 OC), is it within the
listing of any sidewall (standard, ext coverage or residential) to install 1
sidewall per bay spraying down the length of the channel formed between the

I would disagree with the stage is a stage because the room label says so. A
stage in a church is really more a two step raised platform than a stage and
probably doesn't need to be ord II with hose stations.

It would actually be 1.8m sq.ft. not 1.9m sq.ft. (900,000 * 2 = 1.8 x 10^6)

Hope that makes it more palatable. ;P

You are correct since it is ordinary hazard you need a one hour rated wall and
an automatic or self closing door of equal rating. Since it was the AHJ's
decision to not recognize 13R I would ask them for guidance or engineer a
solution and submit it to them for approval.

You have to calculate the head to a .1 density over the SxL actual area
of the head but you cannot use a flow and pressure lower than is stated
in it's listing.

Remember if you use the room design method you have to prove that the
walls will provide a 30 minute fire resistance rating. The walls I've
looked at inside a dwelling unit are shown as non-rated partitions as
well as the doors.

If your using residential heads it's the 4 most demanding sprinklers
regardless of whether they are in the same room or not, see NFPA 13 2002
figure A.11.2.3.5.2. You could apply the room design method, per
11.2.3.3, if your not using residential heads.

I dealt with this directly with NFPA a while back about the definition
of non-combustible hydraulic fluid is. They told me that as long as the
fluid in question has a flash point, regardless of its temperature, then
it is considered combustible as it pertains to the elevator section in
NFPA 13.
