Right. Now I'm utterly confused: the scanner should run in its own
process, logging to its own log file. I don't understand why its logging
would go to server.log. Is this a customized installation, or pretty
much

It's odd though because I'd already installed libdigest-sha-perl when
trying to fix it:
Oh, please install libdigest-sha1-perl, too

I was pretty sure this was some temporary "accident". Good to know it's

Start from the command line: immediately returns, then splash screen,
then nothing.
Nothing in the event log.
Hi,
I've removed the installation, and installed the arm version as
follows:
Code:
sudo apt-get remove --purge logitechmediaserver
wget

QLMS has no own web interface. You can start and stop QLMS like any
other app in QNAP's AppCenter.
QLMS 8.3@2.21 x64 (digimaster) with perl 5.30.1 / QNAP 469L QTS 4.3.4
Without SSOTS is it possible to stop/start/restart the LMS via web
interface?
Or only by commandline with commands like as per below (stop, start,
restart)
Code:
/etc/init.d/services.sh restart
Thanks
Permissions on scanner.log look OK:

Should I check file permissions?
These extra lines were in server.log:

Well since I did my last re-install a couple of days ago, I've taken
care not to invoke it through the CLI, and the reinstall seems to clear

Well, that matters very much. Could you please share the full
scanner.log? And how exactly you start the rescan (exact command).

If I invoke the 'rescan playlists' CLI command (through Muso, which I
author), I end up with a rescan which apparently never ends. Even a
reboot of LMS (or the pi that it's running on) does not help the
situation, and 'Abort Scan' through the web UI doesn't have any effect
either. See how this

Did you try the -arm version instead?
I don't seem to have a /usr/sbin/CPAN folder.
Did you do a "find /usr/ -name DBI.pm"?
now I just have Digest:SHA1 missing.
I've tried

It looks like I have a lot of perl modules missing maybe? Is there a
recommended list of required modules that I can install or is it a case
of working my way through the errors and installing them one by one?
What exact package did you install?
Can you double check DBI.pm isn't available in
Since it turns out I don't need the Control Panel then I'll keep my
Windows set to UTF-8 but hopefully this report will help others or even
lead to a fix.I felt obliged to try this and I see the same behaviour.

error? Or

Hi, and thanks again.

I'm glad to hear that. :)
Erm, can you think of any reason why this error would NOT appear when
info logging control.command? I alternated between info and error

QLMS 8.3@2.21 x64
So I think I may have tracked down the reason it crashes for me (and not
for others).
The problem seems to be that I have my code page set to UTF-8 following
this procedure

I've had to attach the journalctl output as its too long to be included

Still not that helpful. Hmm... what if you tried to run LMS directly
from the console? I think something like
/usr/sbin/squeezeboxserver --d_startup

Thanks for the quick reply.
I've added in the --d_startup. the server.log file and systemctl status
look the same. The journalctl output is much more verbose (pasted
below). I've had a look through it and not noticed anything obvious.
The lines before it dies are:

I have decided to do a total re-install of EVERYTHING - I will take
pi/digione apart and re-assemble - burn new SD cards - remove and
re-connect all cables in my entire network and hifi system. Everything !
Will let you know how it goes. Thanks for all your input
At first I was thinking it was because the version of perl had increased
to 5.28.1 I've seen posts about, I think it was, Synology users who's
LMS broke when the NAS updated to 5.28. But I've also seen reference on
this forum of someone running 'LMS on Debian Bullseye with perl 5.32.1'
Hi,
Firstly, a massive thank you to mherger and the LMS community for
keeping this platform up and running. Its brilliant that I can still use
my squeezebox setup so long after logitech ceased support.
I've been running LMS on my Vero4k running OSMC without issue for ages.
Last week I
