I can think of a number of reasons. People may be running LMS on
headless hardware that is running some OS that they are not familiar
with to operate on console level, e.g. Synology or other NAS type
systems with an HTTP front-end. Depending on whether the OS ships a
package for LMS it may also have relocated some of the files to meet OS
standards. A plugin would be able to reference Custom.pm to find the
files that should be backed up.

Can you please tell me where (in which directory) can I find "bash" ?

Ok, that worked and so did downloading from the nightlies. I tried two
different devices - a desktop and a laptop both running Chrome but with
different anti-virus software and it didn't download from
mysqueezebox.com on either of them. Nothing in the anti-virus history
indicating that it had blocked anything. I then tried Edge and it worked
fine. There must be something about that mysqueezebox.com webpage that
Chrome doesn't like.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] macOS LMS Control Panel and Dark Mode

2020-12-23 Thread Michael Herger

I lied above, slightly, not realizing it. Step 4 - I don't directly the
control panel launch as I mentioned, I use Alfred (Cmd-Space, "lms").
You can get the same result using Spotlight.

That's really odd. I can't get it to show in dark mode. No matter what.
And trust me when I say I've opened it up dozens if not hundreds of
times in macOS set to dark mode...

(last night I was about to order an M1 based Mini... but the
configuration I want seems to be hard to get...)

Strange ... tried to download the released version of 8.1 Windows
version from mysqueezebox.com and it won't download the file. Anybody
else with a problem? I get the "Thanks for downloading Logitech Media

downloaded file.

Might be a problem with your browser thinking it was dangerous or
something? Try to download from
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/LogitechMediaServer_v8.1.0/ instead. Or
using a different browser.

Argh... Must be a problem with the space in the folder name. I thought I
had fixed this a while ago, but probably not for Windows :-(

Until I've fixed that: copy spotty.exe to a path without a space. See
Settings/Information for the "Ordner für Hilfsprogramme". You can find
the path to spotty.exe there. Copy the file to one of the other places.

2020-12-23 Thread Mr_Orange

Phew!

I was running 7.9.4 on a ReadyNAS and got notified to upgrade to 8.0
which I did. I then explored the release notes for 8.1 and noticed that
ReadyNAS support has gone but luckily it won't affect me.

Mine is an older ReadyNAS (Ultra 4+) but I have gone through the
unofficial upgrade to OS6 so I'm good.

Thank you for the continued work on LMS platform.

I did just install the latest nightly, but I may know what's different
between our outcomes.

I lied above, slightly, not realizing it. Step 4 - I don't directly the
control panel launch as I mentioned, I use Alfred (Cmd-Space, "lms").
You can get the same result using Spotlight.

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Post gain adjustment

2020-12-23 Thread matthijskoopmans

Hi MediaServer community!

Many many many thanks for keeping this platform alive. I have been a
SlimDevices fan for many years (these things are virtually
indistructible - especially the Squeezebox III - aka Classic! - I still
have in my collection a working SlimDevices SBIII White!)

I have a request - I am not sure if this is possible or worth the
effort:

When using Replay Gain (I LOVE SMART GAIN) the overall gain is
attenuated to by approx 7 or 8 db - would it be possible to have a post
gain for ALL streams to lift this up again? This makes it source
consistent on a multi-source amplifier.

My current player settings:
SmartGain: on
Gain on remote streams: -8
Spotty replay gain: off
Don't stop the music: on
ASK
Post gain: +8 (+/-n - n=-x - .. +x)

Thank you

The path "D:\Logitech" is wrong, should be "D:\Logitech Media Server"

I checked the file "plugin-data.yaml": the path is correct there.
Also all references to this path in the file "server.prefs" are correct
too.

BTW, i didn't found a setting in the UI to enable logging for Spotty.

I use this path since ever, which worked on the old server also with
Spotty.

Thanks and merci!

This, unfortunately, is a rather wide spread issue, and has been since

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS 8.1 on M1 Mac Mini - Error scanning file or folder: Operation not permitted

2020-12-23 Thread DejanM

Hi,

Just installed LMS 8.1 on brand new M1 Mac Mini. OS is Big Sur 11.1. The
installation went just fine. Scanning of my music files also went
without any problems. Then I added Spotty plug in. LMS scanned that as
well without issues, but then I remarked that my music files are non
existent any more. Rescanning did not bring anything. In the scanning
log file I saw this error:

Error scanning file or folder: /Volumes/Media Library/Music: Operation
not permitted

So I tried in the Privacy area to add LMS to get the permissions for
accessing my files but I cannot find it I need help here.

P.S. My music files are on external disc, connected to this Mac with
thunderbolt connection, that is shared and it is allowed to everybody
to access it. In Finder I can see my music files on this external disc -
they are there.

1. Set Dark Mode in System Preferences.
2. Quit System Preferences
3. Launch System Preferences
4. Go to System Preferences > Logitech Media Server

If you don't quit System Preferences, then the panel may not change

Not without manually installing a nightly first. Whatever branch you're

No 3rd party plugins being used.

In the Mac Activity Monitor Perl looked like just another running
process, no warnings. The only difference I saw was that with it running
OK this morning the Real Memory Size was reported as 70 MB whereas when
crashed, System Preferences (with LMS preferences panel) reported as not
responding, showed the Real Memory Size as 54 MB.

This is good to know. Thanks for the info. The Pi4/8Gb may be a good
alternative too. Or whatever is available in the future

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Logitech Media Server on Ubuntu 20.04

2020-12-23 Thread Norfolk

Same here. I have a headless ubuntu server, starting like 2009 and since
then upgrading from LTS to LTS, now its 20.04.

Similar, i run squeezeboxserver on it, also since like 2009, which now
was upgraded from 7.9.1 to the nightly build v8.0.1, 1608617100 in
64bit, installed with dpkg -i and the all-debian file. Giving that
"dpkg"-command in a SSH-shell was the only thing I had to do after
upgrading ubuntu itself with the usual do-release-upgrade. I even had
that guide with the init.d-script already ready in my browser but didn't
need it after all.

So far, it works perfekt and feels almost like the 7.9.1 I ran before.
Since I use radios, the server showed me that mini how-to regarding
installing the "version fix patch" on them, which also worked withouth
issues.

Thx for your work!

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Logitech Media Server 8.1.0 released!

2020-12-23 Thread mherger

Yep, this was probably the shortest release cycle in a long time. But I
decided to push it a bit to make this Holiday season release 8.1.0. What
has changed since the recent '8.0 release'
(http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113282)? Besides bug
fixes which there's:

- Support for Deezer lossless (FLAC) streaming
- Improvements to the transcoding framework to allow protocol handlers
to enforce transcoding (eg. TIDAL lossless)
- Support for macOS 11 Big Sur and Apple Silicon (M1 CPU - using
  Rosetta)
- Optionally allow installation of plugins which were targeted at
  Logitech Media Server 7.*

Other important changes are the removal of the ReadyNAS NV/Duo/Pro
devices, and Perl 5.8 in general. We actually broke Perl 5.8
compatibility somewhere around LMS 7.9.3. These platforms haven't been
working correctly since then. Removing them thus doesn't really change
anything. ReadyNAS users please note: this is really only about the old,
legacy, generation 1/2 Raidiator v4 based devices. Any recent ReadyNAS
unit, which was based on Debian, should still continue to work as
before. Good or bad.

The more complete 'Changelog can be found here'

Thanks again to all the contributors, in particular Philippe_44, who's
tirelessly ironing out streaming & transcoding issues we're facing with
TIDAL and https.

Free the music!

Well maybe I should prepare for this RPI route too. But I don't have
very high expectations about how the RPi can handle a database of 100K
tracks...

Ping forum member pommes (I believe) who's running a 200k tracks
collection on a Pi. He was facing some issues with a 3B (1GB RAM) and
the maximum memory option in LMS. The scanner kept crashing, most likely
as it run out of memory. He's now using a Pi4 with 8GB, if I'm not
mistaken :-).

Well maybe I should prepare for this RPI route too. But I don't have
very high expectations about how the RPi can handle a database of 100K
tracks...

My setup is also fairly basic - but I recently found out that I am very
fond of the three plugins for Spotify, MixCloud and Bandcamp.. Don't use
them too much but immediately missed them when they were gone. (Spotty
most of these)

Normally for me though it would happen after a Spotify track in a mixed
playlist of local and Spotify tracks. The HDD would sleep during a
Spotify track which was longer than the delay set in HD-idle and that
would trigger the issue.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS and Apple M1 Mac

2020-12-23 Thread Michael Herger

Just one remark ... Concerning MACs, we can expect in the future that M1
platform is going to be increasingly popular and that the number of M1
comps is going to grow whereas the number of MACs with Intel will
decrease. It is going to be a process but we will see how long it will
take that Intels completely disappear. Having that in mind, it would not
be a bad idea to be prepared for such scenario ...

Understood. It's only a question of priorities. As of today there are
more installations on macOS <= 10.10 than there are on 11 (Big Sur). And
the overall macOS/LMS population is rather small in general, a fraction
of eg. the number of pCP/LMS installations.

In 10.15 Apple introduced the following statement:

"Scripting language runtimes such as Python, Ruby, and Perl are included
in macOS for compatibility with legacy software. Future versions of
macOS won’t include scripting language runtimes by default, and might
require you to install additional packages. If your software depends on
scripting languages, it’s recommended that you bundle the runtime within
the app."

So... we'll have to take care of this sooner or later for sure. But I'd
rather know what I'm dealing with before I go there. Adding support for
the Perl version shipped today doesn't make sense, as it might be gone
in a year from now. Bundling a binary otoh will be a lot of new
territory to be covered. Compiling the pref pane will require us to
break with the past. Are we going to provide two packages? Cut-off the
larger number of laggers?

LMS 8.1 is working on M1 as of today. And I guess it'll be until Apple
is serious and removes all scripting (or drops Rosetta). Both events
might still be years out. Until then I'll have bigger fish to fry, and
am looking forward to seeing somebody submitting a pull request ;-).

BTW: I'm a Mac user. I don't run LMS on it to feed by SB ecosystem, but
I do all development work on it. "Unfortunately" I just a new MBP a few
months ago. No M1 for me for now.
