I'm sure I've told this story, here, before.

A good few years ago, we moved into our wickedly costly, elaborate,
restored second home in a little French southern village. What with one
thing and another I could not get the Squeeze system to work (nor the
hot water, nor the 2nd floor heating). After a very frustrating
morning I decided to chill out, and head 400m to our local café for a
light lunch, a chill, and - yes - a glass or two of something wet.
After an hour and half or so, I walked back home, to renew
techno-battle. Just in the little square before our house, I started to
hear extraordinarily thumping music, rattling the very cobbles. Our
(very good) hunting, shooting neighbor game me some very old-fashioned
looks as I passed his house.

Yes, once I'd left home, the whole LMS universe had kicked in, full
volume, multiple tracks - Fiona Apple downstairs, Beethoven upstairs,
Zepp in the garage, John Le Carré in the bedroom. What fun

The MUSE was powered off completely so didn't appear in the lost of
players. That would be equivalent to choosing a MAC address that doesn't
exist.
I confirmed that when the MUSE speaker is powered on then the other
player does not play.

I wouldn't think it could. But since it IS happening, it must be my

Ah, I have no pCP at the moment. If you have "/bin/bash" then you can
use that, else use "/bin/sh" - whichever you use needs to exist on your
system.

But you need to "chmod +x /home/pi/zaireeka.sh" to make the shell script
itself executable.

If I type
where sh
in a terminal connected to the Pi I get
-bash: where: command not found
I can see sh at /bin/sh in WinSCP.
My script starts
#!/bin/bash
Is that wrong?

so "sh" is the name of the shell command. If you type (on the machine
where the script is to run):

Code:

  where sh

it will give you the path to the current "sh" command - probably
"/bin/sh" Edit you script so that the first line is:

Code:

  #!/bin/sh

(change /bin/sh to match the where output). Now your actions.json just
needs:

Code:

  {
  "system":[
  {
  "title":"Zaireeka",
  "command":"/home/pi/zaireeka.sh",
  "prompt":"Do this command?"
  }
  ]
  }

I don't have "/home/pi/sh" as a command. I am clutching at straws. All I
know is that using Putty the command
sh zaireeka.sh
works.
zaireeka.sh is in the folder /home/pi and the script is executable.

Do you have "/home/pi/sh" as a command? Eve if you did You would need
"/home/pi/sh /home/pi/zaireeka.sh" The command that the script runs
(i.e. the first string) either needs to be in PATH or have an absolute
path (hence "/home/pi/sh") If you are using "/home/pi/sh" then the
second part is a parameter to "/home/pi/sh" so also needs to be an
absolute path.

But, if you add the "#/bin/bash" (or "#/bin/sh") at the start, you can
just make the script executable - "chmod +x name-of-script"

Make sure your shell script is executable: "chmod +x script.sh" and has
"#!/bin/bash" as the first line. e.g.

Code:

  #!/bin/bash
  echo "Hello"

Then in actions.json you need the full path to the script:

Code:

  {
  "system":[
  {
  "title":"Zaireeka",
  "command":"/tmp/test.sh",
  "prompt":"Do this command?"
  }
  ]
  }

The above works on my system - "Hello" is printed to there terminal
window where LMS is running.

I added the attached actions.json to prefs/material-skin and the command
appears when I click the three dots. When I click the command I see the
prompt but nothing happens when I agree run the comand. When I run the
command
sh zaireeka.sh
in a terminal four players start playing.
I must be doing something wrong.

I thought this would be fun to play with, then I realized I don't own it
:( I have an already mixed version. Didn't realize I had that until I
looked!

One thought to simplify - mix each disk 1-4 down to mono, then mix 1/2
and 3/4 into stereo. Use 4 radios (A-D), setup to use a pair of radios
to play stereo. So 1/2->Radio A (L) Radio B(R), 3/4->Radio C (L), Radio
D (R)

Then you only have to start the two pairs of radios together.

But, while I do have 4 radios, I don't have the media

It is 4 different CDs to be played at the same time.
If you queue CD1 to player1 and CD2 to player2 etc ... then you cannot
use sync because they are not playing the same thing.

Broadly ... yes.

In fact you can run it from anywhere that has curl ... which might be
easiest on the system running LMS.
You could then change the IP address that it is targetted at to be
localhost or 127.0.0.1 which means that you don't need to know the IP
address since it is the same machine.

Also - yes - do replace the 00 with whatever LMS says is the "Player MAC
Address" on the Information screen.

This looks promising. Do I run this command using Putty and SSH?
Presumably I replace the zeroes with the player MAC address.

I can't remember if I tried alarms when I first attempted this, it is
certainly the easiest method to try first. Sync doesn't need to be spot
on, in fact slight changes in sync give a different experience. Ideally
all 4 discs would be played on 4 stereo players but I was using a Touch,
two Radios and a Bluetooth speaker linked to Squeezeplayer on my phone.
I now have another option with the ESP MUSE speaker. I seem to remember
the main issue was the Squeezeplayer unpredictable delay so replacing
that with the MUSE might help.

Yes but I think part of the experience is that sounds come from
different places. There is a fan made DVD with several mixes which
probably requires a 5.1 system for the best effect.

For a one-off scenario like this, you could merge all four CDs with
Audacity or similar to make a single audio file. Then use a single
player. I did this for Gensho, a collaborative two CD set that by Boris
with Merzbow is supposed to be played simultaneously.

One more thought. I'm sure that, in the past, Michael has pointed us
toward better ways to do this than using HTML commands. Maybe he will
refresh our memories this time. But I just had good luck using this
command:

Code:

curl "http://:9000/Classic/status_header.html?p0=play=00%3A00%3A00%3A00%3A00%3A00"
&> /dev/null

It might be worth trying to put four such commands in a single script,
running each one in the background to minimize the delay between them.

LMS 8 nightly running on Raspberry Pi OS. Mostly virtual players,
occasionally with SB Radio, Boom or Classic.

Might it work if you set an alarm on each - with each one launching a
different CD.
I suspect that they would not be close enough to each other ... but
might be OK if they are LMS controlled devices (e.g.
SB1/SB2/SB3/Transporter).

Otherwise a script that does not wait for the response from LMS (fire
and forget) might get them going within a couple of tenths of a second.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Starting multiple players simultaneously

2022-02-07 Thread RobbH

This is horribly convoluted, but it's the only thing I've thought of so
far:

Take four computers. Any combination of desktops, laptops, Raspberry
Pis, or whatever. Each one needs to have the capability to run a command
at a specified time, like cron on LInux. Each one also needs to have the
capability to run a command that will click a button in a gui. (In
LInux, xdotool serves that purpose.) Make sure time is synchronized on
all four. Open LMS in a browser and select a different player on each
one. Have the appropriate version of the album ready to play in each. Do
all the necessary measurements and calculations to set up a command that
will click on the Play button.

Would that actually work? Maybe. Probably not.

On second thought, aren't there html and/or json commands you could use
to do this?

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Starting multiple players simultaneously

2022-02-07 Thread slartibartfast

This sounds like it should be an easy thing to do but as far as I know
there isn't a way to start multiple non synchronised players at the same
time. There is likely only one possible reason for this (that I can
think of) and that is playing Zaireeka by the The Flaming Lips the way
it was intended to be played. It consists of four CDs which are meant to
played on four players simultaneously. A Squeezebox system would appear
to be ideal for this until you actually try to do it. I even tried using
an IR remote in the hope of triggering all players at the same time
[emoji1787]. For those versed in the art it sounds like an easy thing to
achieve but that is not me.
Any thoughts?
