If there are problems playing streams direct (i.e.not proxied) to player - you shopudl check by testing other high bit rate MP3 streams. If most have problem streamgin smoothly you should double check your local network between player and router (e.g. test wit wired connection, use static IP

I don't think there is a plug socket free in the house for another gadget! I followed this excellent guide for installing 7.9.1 on qnap and it seems to have installed OK, although not done a great deal of testing yet!
