You may not be able to hear your music thanks to the blazing fans in
that thing ;)
So would this be overkill? :D

I wld rescan the library -- cldn't take that long ! And let LMS do
rescans overnight, if you update content regularly ...
Do it overnight if you have a HUGE many-TB library .. mine is under 2T,
and just moved to a newer LMS server. Scan took under 1 hour...the
library itself is on a NAS..

I've used this across 7.x versions to 8.x versions in the past.

As an aside, to move from a pi II to an IV, what files would I need to
copy to the new machine in order to retain MSB, Spotify and last.FM
credentials?
A new scan is fine, but I'd rather not have to find the above settings,
as the installation is at a buddy's place and he's likely forgotten
Thanks Spider, excellent info. I have a Synology 412+ NAS that is dual
core with 1gb RAM and LMS runs like doo-doo on it. Very very slow, even
just when browsing the library with the iPeng app. Never use that LMS
and instead have one installed on my Main PC. Touch is ethernet wired

Well you guys have opened my eyes to the Raspberry Pi 4, seems to be the
better solution for me rather than a new PC. Is this one good for me to
start with? I know nothing about them at the moment, going to start
digging into the whole process.

But why would you need that CPU

Poetic licence on my part.

True qualitatively, I agree :-)
But almost certainly not true quantitatively. Even a several-years-old
3+GHz Intel CPU is going to outperform a Pi 4, let alone a 3, by a
significant margin, no

That's certainly what I did. At least initially.
Then I upgraded from a

I'd say that is an oversimplified assumption. In fact I would expect it
to be more
Also, almost always a "new computer" is substantially faster -
processor, ssd etc etc - than your old one, even if getting a faster
machine has not per se been an objective of the upgrade. When I
installed LMS on this new machine, and plugged in a 1tb external ssd

Can I move my LMS to a new computer without having to scan my library
again?
It depends... but a new system would certainly need to be able to scan
your library, wouldn't it? Why try to skip it initially?
