 Apparently with Java 5.0 and a a complete uninstall...including a registry
purge and a fresh install it's back on track. Is there really a ver. 5098?
All I got was 5096 again.

[freenet-support] reseed

2004-08-20 Thread Robert Greenage

just an FYI to Kevin Steen, Jay Oliveri and Toad. Prior to the reformat I was using ver. 5090 and I had no problems at all accessing anything I wanted to . Freenet was working perfectly. It was only after the reformat that my current problems began. I  do not think it is in any way related 5091 or my modem as there were no problems prior. I am using the same hardware, the same software etc. as before when I could get freenet to work. I am convinced that if I made the appropriate changes in default.ini and / or in freenet.ini my problems would be solved. The big however, is that I am not sure what changes I should make. So maybe you are correct Kevin when you say that broadband would help. I just don't know.

Re: [freenet-support] reseed

2004-08-20 Thread Robert Greenage
I did remove everything from the HDD. I used fdisk, wrote to
zero, reformatted the hd, reinstalled the OS and all the programs that had
been on there that I could salvage.Freenet was not one I could salvage. So
when I reinstalled it with ver. 9091 I would reseed . After I turned the
box off(no broadband) I lost all the node references that I had just
installed from the reseed. I had 117 or so node references at midnight and
in the am I had between 7 and 20. Since you state that my lack of broadband
is the problem I'll discontinue using freenet until such time as I do have
it. Thanks for the help.

Mozilla, Firefox, Netscape and Internet Explorer. I also tried Windows
Media Player as an experiment and it happened with that program also. I
never allow MP to connect to the internet...I only use it when I am not
online. I use Zone alarm as a software firewall and I allow it to "show"
blocked sites every so often as a " check" to see what is trying to access
my pc. This time I kept getting the destination ip 127.0.0.1: port
application: firefox.exe for example.

This never happened prior to installation and running of freenet. Are you
saying that 127.0.0.1 is actually a virtual machine ip address and does not
exist in real time?

[freenet-support] local host

2004-06-23 Thread Robert Greenage

All my programs are trying to access the internet through 127.0.0.1. This occurs even though freenet is not running,I have removed all proxy configurations from my browsers..mozilla,firefox,netscape and even ie( which I use for windows updates). I am using 98SE,192 RAM, PIII 500MZ, 10 gig hdd(master) and a 30 gig hdd(slave). Modem connection. How can I stop this from occuring? Anyone have any thoughts? This does lend itself to increasing my already significant paranoia regarding privacy and protection thereof.

RE: [freenet-support] Re: [freenet-dev] Retiring from the project

2004-05-25 Thread Robert Greenage

This appears to be a major blow to the development of freenet.Conrad is a
major force behind the whole project.Without him I don't see any other
developer capable of stepping up and filling the void. He has a good point
with the constant code changes that do seem to be "a shot in the dark"
There is a fuzziness of focus that has impeded the development of the
project. It saddens me to see a new significant idea come to fruition and
then, for whatever reason(s) become bogged down in what appears to be an
aimless series of attempts at correction. Conrad you will be missed.

[freenet-support] RNF

2004-03-04 Thread Robert Greenage

I have asked this question before with no answer so I am asking again. I have 50 node references in my RT. So why are only one or two being contacted or at times none at all? I reseed regularly.

Freenet

Route Not Found

Network Error

Couldn't retrieve key: [EMAIL PROTECTED]/why.html Hops To Live: 10
Error: Route Not Found
Attempts were made to contact 0 nodes.

0 were totally unreachable.
0 restarted.
0 cleanly rejected.
The request couldn't even make it off of your node. Try again, perhaps with the GPL to help your node learn about others. The publicly available seed nodes have been very busy lately. If possible try to get a friend to give you a reference to their node instead.
Route Not Found messages mean that your node, or the rest of the network, didn't find the data or enough nodes to send the request to. You should retry, with the same Hops-To-Live; if it persists, there may be a problem (check that your internet connection is working). Try reseeding your node, and if that doesn't work, contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Change Hops To Live to and

The routingtable files are the rtnodes_* and rtprops_* files in your choosen freenet install folder. However.. these files occupies only a few kilobytes of your harddrive.

Is it HD space or RAM memory you want to free up?

when I d/l the three seednode reference files.

I have not used freenet for some time now, and just opened it up for the time since build 5023 was released.  I was running build 5021, and could not get to any of the portals on the main page.  I then updated to the latest build and tried again with no luck.  I then re-seeded my node with today's seednodes.ref and have not yet been able to access anything.  it shows me having a few outbound connections, but I have not really gotten any data.  My firewall is configured to pass ports 5, 8481, and to the internet from this server, both TCP and UDP.  I am showing 9 outbound connections and 0 inbound.

RE: [freenet-support] node references

2003-12-12 Thread Robert Greenage
i upgraded to 5050, manually reseeded and i still cannot get any
connections. for awhile with 5048 i was able to get many connections easily
and then it stopped. iam using win98se,500 mz PIII,192 RAM and a dual HDD
master= 10 Gigs and slave = 30 GIGS, java 1.4.2_01-b06.I am running the
freeware version of Zone Alarm 3.7.202. Allowing all java apps to have
internet access. Open connections 0(0/40/0). The routing table which had
been full back in version 5037 or some such is totally empty.Number of node
references =19 ,number of nodes contacted = 0.What, if anyting, am I doing
wrong or...need to do differently?

Re: [freenet-support] browser

2003-10-29 Thread Robert Greenage
I have received many answers to my problem. However, none have worked. When
I log on to my ISP IE6.0 loads and automatically goes to 127.0.0.1.:.
then I get the error message
res://C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SHDOCLC.DLL/dnserror.dns. In properties the correct
earthlink address is the default start page. And the address is correct.I
can start other browsers opera and Mozilla. I can also access the earthlink
start page with those browsers. The problem of email is the major issue. I
even reinstalled IE 6.0 without any success. Please help.
