Re: I'm Closer to Fixing Issue with Deleted Emails
David Goldfield: OK, I'm in the process of trying to restore emails which I stupidly deleted when erasing my settings in safe mode. No, they are not deleted. I have tried now what you did but of course after making a backup of the profile i am using. So there was no danger. ;) I found the email folders in C:\documents and settings\david\application data\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\Profiles\ot85ufde.default This is, as you probably can tell by the path, an XP machine. Mhm, my knowledge covers DOS, not Win. But i can guess. How do I tell Seamonkey to point to that profile to get to its mail folder which is contained in the above folder. I assume that you are still using that profile which should have the name 'default'. You can verify this with Tools-Switch Profile and looking which one is selected. Press 'Cancel' after that. Should I modify the profiles.ini file or go into Profile Manager. Changing the profile will not help because you should be using the same one as before. ;) Any help would be greatly appreciated. First, make a backup of C:\documents and settings\david\application data\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\ before any experiments. You have lost your old prefs.js which contains the information how to access the files in the folders Mail/ and News/. Perhaps you are lucky and can find the prefs.js in the Trash of Win. If so, rename your current prefs.js to pref.js-s1 and copy the found prefs.js from your Trash in your profile. Then test by starting SM. Hm, is it necessary to mention that all manipulations of a profile must be done when SM is closed? ;) Hartmut ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey

Re: Safe Mode/Email Deleted/Am I Up a Creek Without a Paddle
OK, first I want to apologize for the frenetic state of my previous messages regarding this issue. It was late at night, I panicked and this explains the lack of clarity in my messages regarding this issue. Let me explain the situation in terms which, I hope, will be clearer. I am using Seamonkey 2.4.1 on a Windows XP Pro machine running SP3 if that is all relevant. I had been having issues with certain Web pages loading slower than normal. I did pretty much all of the right things: disabled all unnecessary and even some necessary add-ons, defragmented not only the hard drive but the Seamonkey program and data folders, checked to see what was in startup, checked for viruses, malware, etc. When none of that worked I wondered if resetting the program to its default settings might improve things. I did a little bit of reading on how running Seamonkey in Safe mode gives you the option of restarting Seamonkey normally allowing the user to choose whether addons are disabled, toolbars are reset, etc. I did this including checking the box to get rid of user preferences not assuming this includes email account information. I then restarted seamonkey normally, not in safe mode, and found that bringing up the email window triggered the new account wizzard. I do see that my old email folders from my various accounts still seem to exist in the folder C:\documents and settings\david\application data\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\Profiles\ot85ufde.default\Mail My question is this: what can I do to get Seamonkey to realize or to know that it is to look in this folder for my email instead of bringing up the new account wizzard. I do not have a backup copy of the prefs.js file but I am not afraid to modify either it or any settings in about:config with guidance. I hope this clarified my situation. Any help would be greatly appreciated. David If all you wish to recover from the old profils is the mail folders, it's easy. Just create a new profile (it will be located in the same Profiles folder, but with a different random-string subfolder). Then close Seamonkey. Go to the OLD profile mail subfolder, copy all the files there, and paste them on the NEW profile subfolder. Next time you open Seamonkey, your messages will automagically be there. Another option is to reactivate your ENTIRE old profile. This is also easy: Close Seamonkey Go to C:\documents and settings\david\application data\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\ Edit the profiles.ini file so it names the OLD profile folder instead of the new one.
