SM1.1 to SM2.0 profiles on Windows?

2009-09-06 Thread Gerry Hickman

Hi,

As I see it, the correct way to use roaming profiles on Windows is to
have the settings in %APPDATA% and the data in the homeDirectory. This
way, the settings roam with the user, the user connects to their data at
each logon, but the data is not replicated. In the context of backup,
the data is backed up along with all their other data. If you're not on
a network, homeDirectory is effectively my documents.

In SM1.1 I had it set up this way

%appdata%\Mozilla (pluginreg.dat, registry.dat)
%homedrive%%homepath%\Mozilla\Default\ipu5ckl7.slt

Reading this page

https://wiki.mozilla.org/SeaMonkey:New_for_2.0

%APPDATA%\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\Profiles\Profile name\

it looks like it wants to migrate the existing profile into the roaming
location _including_ all my data (email etc), which seems wrong to me.

Is there a proper way to keep the settings separated from the data? In
not, can I move the whole Mozilla profile back to the homeDirectory
after the migration and run it from there?

2009-09-06 Thread Benoit Renard
SeaMonkey 1.1.18 on Windows 95 gives an error about PSM failing to
initialise on HTTPS web pages. SomeGuy on mozillaZine did more testing:

On NT 3.51 SP5, Windows 95 with and without IE, NT 4 SP6 with and
without IE, as well Windows 98 with 98lite SeaMonkey 1.1.18 gives the
above mentioned error when connecting to HTTPS sites. Plain Windows

How do you press Alt-G with a mouth stick?

There's a Windows' method called something like stickykeys.
Hit the Shift key 5 times and you'll be asked/told about it.

Hi all,

Today, the SeaMonkey project released a new version of its
all-in-one internet suite. SeaMonkey 1.1.18 closes several security
vulnerabilities and fixes a few smaller problems found in previous
versions. With that, SeaMonkey stays at the same level of security
as its sibling Thunderbird 2, which has been issuing updates for the
same problems recently as well.

The SeaMonkey team urges users of older SeaMonkey versions,
including the SeaMonkey 1.0.x series, which no longer receives
security updates, to upgrade. Additionally, the team continues to
strongly urge people still using the old Mozilla Suite or Netscape
4, 6 or 7 to upgrade to the new SeaMonkey 1.1.18 version. All these
older software packages suffer from a large and steadily increasing
number of security vulnerabilities because they are no longer being
maintained. SeaMonkey 1.1.18 is a modern drop-in replacement,
providing the same familiar suite functionality with additional
features and fully up to date security.

SeaMonkey 1.1.18 is available for free download from the open source
project's website at www.seamonkey-project.org.

Greetings,

Robert Kaiser
SeaMonkey Council member
Sorry to contact you this way. You just responded to my post about
1.1.18 having problems. Because the View menu has disappeared from my
screen (as well as File, Edit, and Help), I am not able to see my
post and your response.

Also, I cannot click on anything in the browser as nothing happens.
Can't get to any sites.

I did and have been deleting the old SeaMonkey before installing a
new one.
By the way, I had this problem in previous releases but somehow it
went away.

This time, I am almost out of business. I have tried going back to
1.1.16 and 1.1.17, and reinstalling 1.1.18.

Any help is very appreciated.

Stan

Is the entire menu bar missing? Or just parts of it?

If the entire menu bar is missing:

1. You might be in Full Screen mode. Try using F11 to exit that
mode. F11 is a toggle for both entering and exiting that mode; you
might have accidentally hit F11 while reaching for the Backspace key.

2. You might have accidentally clicked on the nubby area (name unknown
to me) at the far left of the menu bar. If you see a small area
beginning with a right-pointing triangle, click on it once. This too is
a toggle. There is a toggle of this type for each bar at the top of the
window. Because of anomalous motion of my cursor -- resulting from my
use of a laser mouse -- I occasionally click on one of those toggles
when I meant to click elsewhere in the window.

I cleared everything and reinstalled 1.1.18

2009-09-06 Thread stan pierce
I deleted every folder and file connected with SeaMonkey. I want to see
if I can shut down and then bring up SM again. If this works, I can
copy certain folders/files from my old computer into my new profile so I
can at least recover bookmarks, address book, E-mails.

At this moment SM is working, mail, newsgroups, browser.

I am about to close SM and see if I can click on the icon and start it up.

If that works, I will add to this thread. I have not been able to do
this all day. I am currently running with a Default profile.

It did not work. When I clicked on the SM icon, I got the small
SeaMonkey window that has the SM icon and explains that SM is a suite et
al. I checked the processes and SM is there in the list. I stopped it.
and tried again and got the same thing.

This seems strange in that I had removed all traces of SM before
installing it. It started fine. Let me do everything. But won't restart
(or won't bring up the mail/new and browser windows.

Could it have anything to do with my 64 bit machine and/or Vista Home
Premium? I was running OK on 1.1.17 but I tries backing up to that and
it didn't run.

All my other programs run fine.

Help please.
Stan

Forcing a new Tab - possible

2009-09-06 Thread DoctorBill

Isome web pages (college sites) do not bring up a new tab when
one clicks on a link.

Right clicking the link does not give the option for a new tab either.

Is there a way to FORCE a new tab to form when clicking on a link that
normally just changes the tab one is in ?

No it doesn't - not on my system.

I don't get that menu allowing this tab or new tab - on my daughter's
