I do not know if it is compatible with your recent version of SeaMonkey
or if it was ever compatible with any version, but you might try the
Signature Switch extension. I am using it with Thunderbird 52.9.1.

It sets a default signature but then allows you to select a non-default
signature for a given newsgroup or E-mail address. It also allows you
to manually select a saved signature without having to manually type the
signature.

Why not create alt.seamonkey.support and alt.seamonkey.develop?
Alternatively, ask at news.groups.proposals on any general NNTP server
to create comp.seamonkey.support and comp.seamonkey.develop, which could
then be moderated (but not by Chris Ilias).

Why not use the password manager that is already built into SeaMonkey?

I would definitely avoid any third-party password manager that stores
passwords on an external server or on the cloud. Those are very
tempting targets for hackers.

One thing that freezes my system -- including my mouse -- is a poorly
coded JavaScript. I know from experience several Web sites have that
problem. I disable JavaScript before visiting them.

Another thing causing the problem for me is unecessary images from
third-party domains, especially animated. I restrict images to only
those from the domain of the Web page I select.

I also disable HTML5 media unless I know that I really want to see video.

Caching Web pages was useful when the Internet and Web servers were
slow. Pages could be fetched from your local cashe much more quickly
than downloaded from the Internet.

Now the Internet and servers are fast. On top of that, many sites use
PHP or other such tools to generate their Web pages on the fly, making
the cache useless. I set my cache size to 0.

You SEE the same information. With about:config, however, the software
limits you to screwing up only one entry at a time, limited to a small
set of actions. Editing prefs.js allows you to screw up a whole bunch
of entries all at once, limited only by the capabilities of the text
editor you are using.

With 40+ years of experience, first as a programmer and then as a
software tester, I am far more comfortable using programmed capabilities
within a program (e.g., about:config) than tweaking raw data (e.g.,

bypass necessary housekeeping that would be done though programmed
capabilities.

One of the menu options on an about:config entry is Reset. You will not
see the entry disappear when you use that option. In many cases,
however, the entry will disappear when you terminate SeaMonkey.

Unfortunately, you have to reset each entry one at a time.

DO NOT delete the .msf file for any newsgroup server. Only delete the
.msf file for the deleted newsgroup. It appears that the .msf file for
the server contains flags for how to display Thunderbird's thread and
message panes for that account.

Also, open file .rc for the SERVER in a plain-text editor (e.g.,
Notepad, Wordpad, but not Word). If there is an entry for the deleted
newsgrup, remove that entry. If Thunderbird is working correctly,
however, that entry should have been automatically removed when you
deleted the newsgroup.

I do not think you can prevent the use of "storage". However, I located
the folders in my profiles and created a script to delete the contents
of the subfolders and then delete the subfolders themselves. I run that
script before doing system backups. Yes, I could merely block my backup
routine from including "storage"; but by deleting the data, I recover
disc space.

Since you are using Linux and I am using Windows, I cannot suggest how
to create the script for your system.

print.printer_[xxx].print_paper_size_unit

You might try contacting their corporate headquarters. Do it as a
letter via the Postal Service, not via E-mail. Send it to the CEO.
Point out that limiting what browsers can be used will also limit their
customer base.

A WhoIs quesry on the domain jewelosco.com revealed two addresses:

Registrant Name: Safeway Inc
Registrant Organization: Safeway Inc
Registrant Street: 31ST ST COR 2ND AVE
Registrant City: TAGUIG CITY
Registrant State/Province: CA
Registrant Postal Code: 1634
Registrant Country: PH

Admin Organization: Safeway Inc
Admin Street: 11555 DUBLIN CANYON RD
Admin City: Pleasanton
Admin State/Province: CA
Admin Postal Code: 94588-2815

You might try Yahoo's <http://finance.yahoo.com/lookup> to get the name
and address of the CEO of Albertson's, which seems to own Safeway which,
in turn, seems to own Jewel.

Quite some years ago (at least 7 years ago), I installed the FlashBlock
extension in my SeaMonkey. I set the default to enable FlashBlock.
After Adobe announced the demise of Flash, I paid attention to whether
or not I disabled the extension.

The last Web site using Flash that I visited was the BBC news site, for
which I had to disable FlashBlock. Sometime in the second half of 2020,
however, I was able to view BBC videos by enabling HTML5 Media (normally
disabled in my configuration) without disabling FlashBlock. Thereafter,
I did not need to disable FlashBlock, which means I did not need Flash.

I removed Flash from my configuration on that horrible day: 6 January
2021. I then found many instances of Windows registry entries for Flash
that did not get removed. I manually removed many of them, but I left
several because I was not sure if they were indeed merely for Flash. A
week later, I do not miss Flash.

Flash is no longer functional. Adobe announced last year that Flash
would no longer be maintained or distributed after the end of 2020.
Furthermore, the lastest versions of Flash apparently contain code that
blocks it from working after 11 January 2021 (yesterday).

You should instead be using HTML5 Media. If that is enabled but the Web
site still asks for Flash, you should notify the site's owner that Flash
is borked, dead, obsolete, etc.

I was replying to the comment that "free speech" gave newspapers and
electronic platforms the right to carry or refuse to carry an article.
That is not "free speech"; that is "freedom of the press". Yes,
Amendment 1 prevents the federal government from infringing on both free
speech and freedom of the press, which was extended to the states by
Amendment 14.

Someone once said the freedom of the press belongs to he who owns the
printing press. It has long been the answer to anyone who objects when
a newspaper refuses to publish his or her letter to the editor. Extend
that to electronic platforms, and that becomes the answer to anyone who
objects to being censored by Facebook, Twitter, or any other electronic
medium.

Given today's broad definition of "press", that falls under freedom of
the press. "Press" now seems to include not only print media but also
electronic media.

For the preference variable browser.sessionstore.max_concurrent_tabs,
the following values apply:

0: For each WINDOW, only restore the open, selected tab.

a positive number: Restore that number of tabs concurrently.

any negative number: Restore all tabs concurrently.

For me, saving occurs as controlled by browser.sessionstore.interval
while SeaMokey is still active. I seem not to have a "Save and Close"

Browser sessions are saved according to the preference variable
browser.sessionstore.interval
which has the default value of 15000. The units are milliseconds; thus
the default is 15 seconds.

If you have multiple tabs open, the number of tabs that can be restored
concurrently is controlled by the preference variable
browser.sessionstore.max_concurrent_tabs
which has the default value of 3.

However, the maximum number of tabs that can be restored is controlled
by the preference variable
browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo
which has the default value of 10.

You might want to examine those three preference variables via
about:config
You might be terminating when you opened tabs later than the most recent
save.

Also look at preference variables
browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash
and
browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once
If the first has the value "false" (not the default "true"), restoring
after a crash is blocked. If the second has the value "true" (not the
default "false"), the first restore of a session prevents later restores
of the same session.

My active tab is dark blue with white text. If I hover my cursor on

I was having a similar problem but with Thunderbird. It turned out that
the problem was NOT in Thunderbird but in the authentication software in
the ISP's mail server. Have you tried contacting your ISP about this?

Root Certificate Database

2020-12-15 Thread David E. Ross
Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64
SeaMonkey 2.49.5
Thunderbird 52.9.1

Because a number of extensions that I frequently use in SeaMonkey are
not compatible with SeaMonkey versions beyond 2.49.5 and there are no
substitutes, I do not plan to update beyond SeaMonkey 2.49.5. For the
same reason, I am remaining with Thunderbird 52.9.1.

Is there a file with the current Mozilla-approved root certificate
database that I can download to replace the files I have for SeaMonkey
and Thunderbird?

As I replied earlier, that is what the credit union where I have had an
account for 50+ years said. Instead, I am partway through the process
of abandoning the credit union.

In the meantime, I have accounts at another credit union (about 40
years), a commercial bank (over a decade), and a major mutual fund group
(25 years). I can still do transactions in those accounts using
SeaMonkey 2.49.5 under Windows 7. Today, I mailed letters to each of
those three, alerting them to the need to be backwards compatible as
they update their servers so that depositors and investors can continue
to use their legacy systems.

Change banks. I am in the process of closing my accounts at a credit
union where I have been a member (customer) for over 50 years. I am
moving to another credit union.

The issue is that commerical Web sites often have their server software
updated. What they fail to do is remain compatible with legacy systems
used by theit customers. That indicates a lack of concern for those
whose transactions provide the profits that keep their businesses
operating.

Try disabling JavaScript (which is NOT Java). I have PrefBar 7.1.1
installed with SeaMonkey 2.49.5. PrefBar has two JavaScript controls.
One is plain "javaScript", which globally enables or disables
JavaScript; this one should be setup when you install PrefBar. The
other is "prefbartabjavascript", which enables or disables JavaScript
only for the current tab; this one needs to be moved from Available to
Enabled if you Customize PrefBar.

I exported my useragent extlist and uploaded it to my Web site. It is
at <http://www.rossde.com/test/spoof_UAstring.btn>. Please let me know
when you download it so that I can then delete it from my Web site.
After you download it, you can then import it into PrefBar AFTER you
delete the existing useragent from PrefBar. Otherwise, you can view the
contents with Notepad or Wordpad and pick out the UA strings.

NOTE WELL: The spoof_UAstring.btn file is compatible with the
configuration indicated at the beginning of this reply and likely with
earlier -- but not later -- versions of SeaMonkey and PrefBar.

1. Locate your profile. On the menu bar, select [Help >
Troubleshooting Information]. Under Application Basics, select the Open
Folder button to the right of Profile Folder.

2. In the profile, locate the file user.js. If it does not exist,
create it with Wordpad or Notepad but NOT Word.

3. Using Wordpad or Notepad in user.js, create the following entry all
on a single line:
user_pref("general.useragent.override.ioof.com.au", "Mozilla/5.0
(Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:79.0) Gecko/20100101
Firefox/79.0");
Note that the semi-colon (;) at the end is required. If the entry wraps
when you enter it, that is okay; but do not manuall break the entry by
using the Enter or Return key on your keyboard. Save user.js.

4. The change to user.js becomes effective only when SeaMonkey is
initialized. Terminate all instances of SeaMonkey. Relaunch SeaMonkey.

The alternative is to request about:config and then create the preference
general.useragent.override.ioof.com.au
and give it the value
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:79.0)
Gecko/20100101 Firefox/79.0
again, all on a single line.

I prefer using user.js because it provides me with a record of the
changes I have made. You can add a comment there if it begins with two
virgules (//) to remind you of why you did this. You cannot add
comments at about:config or in prefs.js.

I tried spoofing Firefox 79.0, Chrome 86.0.4240.75, and Edge 18.18363.
None of those worked. In closing the account at UFCU, I will pull out
approximately 2/3 of our annual living expenses. I have already started
to do that. That might not mean much to UFCU, but it is a large sum to
me.

Do you really need to bank at a giant like Chase?

I have had an account at Unify Financial Credit Union (UFCU) or one of
its ancestors for over 50 years. UFCU is one of the largest credit
unions in the U.S.; but my account was originally opened at a much
smaller credit union that merged into Western Federal Credit Union,
which eventually became UFCU. UFCU has been my primary banking
institution even though credit unions are not really banks. On
1 October, I paid bills online through UFCU. On 2 October, I received
E-mails informing me that my checking and Visa statements were

closing my accounts and moving my primary banking activity to another
credit union where I have had an account for over 30 years.

Yes, I also have an account at a real bank. It is a relatively small,
regional bank with almost all branches in southern California (plus 3 in
the Central Valley of California and 1 in Colorado). I have that
account in order to have a safe deposit box (not generally available
through a credit union) and to get images of all my cancelled checks --
fronts and backs -- with each monthly statement for those situations
where I might later need proof of payment. (Credit unions are

Do you really need to bank at a giant like Chase?

I have had an account at Unify Financial Credit Union (UFCU) or one of
its ancestors for over 50 years. UFCU is one of the largest credit
unions in the U.S., but my account was originally opened at a much
smaller credit union that merged into UFCU. UFCU has been my primary
banking institution even though credit unions are not really banks. On
1 October, I paid bills online through UFCU. On 2 October, I received
E-mails informing me that my checking and Visa statements were
available. I downloaded the statements for my files and reconciled my
checking account. On 8 October, I tried to login to my account. All I
got was a pale purple screen. After a lengthy phone call, I was
informed that SeaMonkey was not supported. I am now in the process of
closing my accounts and moving my primary banking activity to another
credit union where I have had an account for over 30 years.

Yes, I also have an account at a real bank. It is a relatively small,
regional bank with almost all branches in southern California (plus 3 in
the Central Valley of California and 1 in Colorado). I have that
account in order to have a safe deposit box (not generally available
through a credit union) and to get images of all my cancelled checks --
fronts and backs -- with each monthly statement for those situations
where I might later need proof of payment.* (Credit unions are
forbidden by law from returning cancelled checks.)

My father owned an independent furniture store. He always banked at a
small, local bank. He did not need foreign exchange, huge loans, or
other large-bank services. Instead, he wanted to be recognized by name
when he walked into the bank. If he needed some special service, he
wanted to be well acquainted with the manager. At a small bank, all
that was reciprocated by the manager appreciating my father's business.

* Having images of cancelled checks proved very useful in 2019. The
IRS sent me a letter claiming I did not make a payment on my federal
income taxes. I called the IRS while holding the bank statement that
included the check for the missing payment. After a very brief phone
conversation, the issue was resolved. Two weeks later, I received
another letter from the IRS informing me that I did not owe anything.
Years ago, I had a similar problem with local property taxes, which was
similarly resolved. There have been other such situations, never
involving payments through a credit union.

For 2.49.4:

1. On the menu bar, select [Help > Troubleshooting Information].

2. On the Troubleshooting Information window, under Application Basics,
select the Open Folder button to the right of Profile Folder.

3. Note the name of the folder just below the Windows Explorer title bar.

4. To the left of the name of the folder in Windows Explorer, select
the up arrow.

5. Copy the the folder to someplace else on your PC.

Repeat the above if you have multiple profiles. I would do this every
time I updated SeaMonkey.

I have now frozen my SeaMonkey version at 2.49.5; that is, I no longer
update. That is because later versions are not compatible with
extension I use. There are no equivalent compatible extensions and no
inherent capabilities in SeaMonkey that provide the same functionality.

I do not think there is a Safari version for "Windows NT 10.0; Win64;
x64" or any other Windows version.

In PrefBar's extlist useragent, I have
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_15_4)
AppleWebKit/605.1.15 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/13.1
Safari/605.1.15
I got this from the log of visitors to my Web site. I just checked that
log about a week ago. I either found this UA string in the log, or else
I could not find a log entry with a Safari version later than 605.1.15
other than for mobile phones. (I do not remember which alternative.)

Early in the COVID-19 pandemic, President Trump told us the
virus would disappear by April. Later, he said it would be gone
when the weather turned hot.

In Ventura County (population less than 850,000), there were
2,134 new COVID-19 infections in September as the temperature
reached 117F. That month, there were also 36 deaths, a persistent
daily death rate through the entire month of 1.2%.

I don't think COVID-19 will disappear until after Trump disappears.

I had a similar problem with a credit union. I could login, but the
result was a blank screen tinted pale purple (lavender?). I called the
credit union's tech support, who told me they do not support SeaMonkey.

I tried spoofing Firefox without any success. However, I had success
logging in with Internet Explorer 11 (IE); so I tried SeaMonkey while
spoofing IE. That too was successful. As a result, I added
user_pref("general.useragent.override.xxx",
"Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/7.0;
rv:11.0) like Gecko ");
(all on one line) to my profile's user.js file. Bingo! It too worked.
(I used the credit union's domain in the actual case. I show "xxx" here
because I do not want to disclose where I bank.)

I have discovered a few situations where two different extensions (not
plug-ins) were mutually incompatible. These situations are very, very
few; but they are extremely annoying because they are often hard to
diagnose. The probem arises because an extension's author can easily
test against the host application (e.g., SeaMonkey) but cannot know
which (of dozens and dozens) other extensions will also be installed.

Because of my experience as a software test engineer (30+ years before
retiring), I do indeed test and test again until I find which extensions
conflict with each other to cause the problem. I then notify the
authors of both extensions of the problem, describing the symptoms.

If neither author accepts responsibility to fix his or her extension, I
must then decide which extension is more important to me than the other.
I then delete the less important one.

Java and JavaScript are two distinct entities. The only similarity is
in their names, which is a very unfortunate situation.

Plugins such as Java are no longer supported in Mozilla-based products.
JavaScript, however, is an internal feature of those products.

I am already doing that. My shortcut always launches SeaMonkey with my
preferred profile. However, that does not reset the flag for the
DEFAULT profile in profiles.ini if I previously terminated SeaMonkey
while in a special-purpose profile.

The script I created looks like this:
C:\Windows\System32\taskkill.exe /IM seamonkey.exe /T
start /B B:\SeaMonkey\seamonkey.exe
exit
This causes a termination and restart of SeaMonkey. Since the "start"
command does not include SeaMonkey's -p option, this should restart with
the default profile, which is not necessarily my preferred profile.
However, if I run this script while SeaMonkey is indeed using my
preferred profile, I want that profile to also be my default. Per my
first paragraph in this reply, that is not always the case.

Setting Default Profile

2020-09-09 Thread David E. Ross
Windows 7
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101
SeaMonkey/2.49.5

I have four SeaMonkey profiles: a preferred profile and three
special-purpose profiles. I generally launch SeaMonkey in my preferred
profile by selecting a shortcut that uses the command-line option -p
followed by the name of the profile.

If I use the profile manager to switch profiles, the selected profile is
flagged as the default. If I terminate SeaMonkey while in one of my
special-purpose profiles, that profile is thus flagged as my default.
When I later use my shortcut to launch SeaMonkey, I do get my preferred
profile. However, the profile I was using when I last terminated
SeaMonkey remains the default.

I have a script that terminates SeaMonkey and immediately relaunches it
in the same profile. This is in place of the Restart Application Button
extension, which fails to reset everything back to my default state. My
script causes SeaMonkey to relaunch in the default profile. That is
okay except when I earlier terminated SeaMonkey while in a
special-purpose profile and then use my script while in my preferred
profile; in that case, SeaMonkey launches in the wrong profile.

Is there a command-line option that I can add to my shortcut that I use
to launch SeaMonkey that forces my preferred profile to be the default?

I see something similar to that in Yahoo news. It seems related to an
advertisement that has animation.

I know this will not help you because you want the images, but here is
what I do. I set my images preference to none, disable AdBlock Plus,
clear all Yahoo cookies, and reload the page. After the page starts
reloading, I enable AdBlock Plus and disable JavaScript, leaving all
images disabled.

3. Under Scrolling on the Content pane, select the checkbox for "Use

Oops! I hit Send too soon. The value has NO blanks among the
comma-separated list. When you are done rearranging the list, close all
instances of SeaMonkey for the result to take effect. (Normally, that

I just did that for Thunderbird. SeaMonkey should be the same. It
involves editing the file prefs.js VERY, VERY CAREFULLY. You will need
a list of the actual servers used by the various accounts.

I would first save a backup copy of prefs.js, which is found in your
profile. To get there, go to your menu bar and select [Help >
Troubleshooting Information]. Select the Open Folder button to the
right of Profile Folder, all of which is in the first section under
Application Basics.

Then, enter about:config in the URL bar. If you get a warning popup,
acknowledge it but continue. In the Search area, enter
mail.server.server
You will see a large number of results, sorted by server number. Note
the number associated with each actual server. Some server numbers will
not have an actual server; these might be "smart folders", "local
folder", "feeds", etc. Note these, too.

Now you must associate each noted server with an account. For each
account, enter it in the Search area. Note what account is indicated by
the preference variables.

So far, you have not changed anything. Now comes the VERY CAREFUL part.
 In the Search area, enter
    mail.accountmanager.accounts
The value is a comma-separated list of accounts in the order you want
them to appear.

I often see this with certain newspaper Web sites. It is a function of
the site. I think in some cases it is intentionally trying to prevent
printing in order to protect the site's copyright. Other cases are
merely very bad HTML.

On rare occasions, I can print what I want by disabling JavaScript (not
Java, which is different). Otherwise, I [right-click > Select All >
Copy] and then paste into a plain-text editor (ususally Wordpad). I
must then adjust the paragraph spacing and sometimes the font before
printing from the editor.

Do not do the domain-specific override. The bank might be using an
outside service with a different domain for Web processing. I know that
happens with my bank.

Instead, do a general override on
general.useragent.override
not on
general.useragent.override.usbank.com

Go back to my first reply in this thread.

In step #3, instead of
general.useragent.override.usbank.com
try
general.useragent.override

In step #4, instead of
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:75.0)
Gecko/20100101 Firefox/75.0
try
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101
Firefox/52.0
This will make ALL Web sites think you are using Firefox/52.0.

If you want other sites to recognize that you are using SeaMonkey,

1. After you are through banking again go to
about:config

2. In the Search area enter
general.useragent.override

3. Select
general.useragent.override
under Preference Name, right-click, and select Resert from the pull-down
context menu.

I use Password Exporter 1.3.4 from
<https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/password-exporter/versions/1.3.4>
with SeaMonkey 2.49.5. I do not know if it is compatible with later
versions of SeaMonkey. In any case, I had to process the installer .xpi
file through the extension converter at
<http://addonconverter.fotokraina.com/> before I could install it.

I archived the converted installer file. If you want to try it, reply
in this newsgroup thread.

I use PrefBar's useragent Extlist for the same purpose. However, I
wanted to advise the original poster without suggesting the installation
of an extension, especially since I did not know then what version of
SeaMonkey was being used and thus did not know what extension might be
compatible.

Regarding Windows 7 vs Windows 10, I had a problem similar to yours with
the US Postal service's Web site. I have Windows 7 and SeaMonkey
2.49.5. What I described for you is what I use for the Postal Service
except, instead of
general.useragent.override.usbank.com
I have
general.useragent.override.usps.com

That is okay. All this will do is make US Bank's server think you are
using Firefox 75 with Windows 10. It does NOT require you to use either
Firefox 75 itself or Windows 10 itself.

If that is not working, then there is something else in your setup that
the bank's server does not like. I will give you an example from my own
usage.

I normally Web surf with the following preferences:
"Advertise Firefox compatibility" disabled
Cookies for the requested Web site only
Popups blocked
Images from other domains blocked
HTML5 Media and Flash disabled
An extension that befuddles attempts to track me
AdBlock Plus enabled
And there might be others.

However, four financial institutions with which I have frequent
Web-based transactions really do not like that setup. So I created a
separate profile with some of those preferences changed:
Popups enabled
Images from all domains enabled
HTML5 Media and Flash endabled
The extension that befuddles attempts not installed in the profile
AdBlock Plus enabled but only for certain unrelated sites that set
cookies (Yahoo, Amazon, Youtube, others, none of which I
visit while using my financial institutions profile)
For one institution, all cookies are enabled

My first thought is to change banks.

I used to bank with a small community bank. It had a branch close to
where I worked and another one that I passed commuting between work and
home. It was an early adopter of direct deposit for payroll. They
charged me no account fee. When my office moved, I did not change
banks. A year or more would go by without me needing to even call the
bank, let alone visit a branch. If I wanted to deposit a check, the
bank provided pre-paid bank-by-mail envelopes. The envelopes were
addressed to the branch where my account was based. They would then
mail me the deposit receipt along with another bank-by-mail envelope.

US Bank bought up that small bank. Then, they required me to provide my
own envelopes to bank-by-mail. The envelop had to be mailed to US
Bank's main office (about 3-4 days instead of 1 day). If I wanted a
deposit receipt, I had to include my own return, stamped envelope. I
changed to another small community bank.

My second thought, however, involves you keeping your US Bank account.

1. In SeaMonkey, enter about:config in the URI area (address bar),
dismissing any warning popup.

2. Right-click anywhere on the list of preference variables and select
[New > String] from the pull-down context menu.

3. In the "New string value" dialogue, enter
general.useragent.override.usbank.com
and then select the OK button.

4. In the "Enter string value" dialogue, enter
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:75.0)
Gecko/20100101 Firefox/75.0
all as a single line (Pardon the line wrap above.) and then select the
OK button.

NOTE: In step #4, you might enter a different user agent (UA) string if
you know of a more recent one for Firefox or one for a Mac instead of
this one, which is for Windows.

I think Adblock Plus 2.9.1 is the last version compatible with SeaMonkey
2.49.5. I archived the installer for that. If you want a copy, reply
here.

To whitelist:

1. On the SeaMOnkey menu bar, select [Tools > Add-ons Manager].

2. On the Add-ons Manager window or tab (depending on your
preferences), select the Options button for Adblock Plus and then the
"Filter Preferences" button.

3. On the left side of the Adblock Plus Filter Preferences window,
select Exception and then the "Add fileter" button.

4. Directly under "Filter rule", there will be an input area. Insert a
URI or a fragment of a URI there. You can use an asterisk (*) as a
wild-card.

5. Select the Close button.

Many E-mail systems -- yours or the recipients' hosts, not Thunderbird
-- reject messages with only Bcc addresses. Other systems might reject
messages with more than a small number of Bcc addresses.

Also, see if the PopMailListRecipients extension will work with your
version of SeaMonkey. See
<https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/popmaillistrecipients/>.
That Web page contains a link to see if there is a SeaMonkey equivalent
along with a suggestion on converting the Thunderbird extension to a
SeaMonkey extension.

If the extension does work with your SeaMonkey, you enter your
distribution list as Bcc and then select the toolbar button created by
the extension. In Thunderbird, that parses the distribution list and
replaces it with the individual E-mail addresses still with Bcc. If
that works with your SeaMonkey, it will give you visibility to whom the
message was addressed.

First of all, it is the convention here to BOTTOM POST replies.

I found I get excellent results by using the Zoom application. I never
tried doing Zoom within a browser. Ditto for Skype.

For security reasons --

1. I only install the Zoom application just before I am going to use
it. When the Zoom meeting is done, I uninstall the application with a
non-Windows application that also removes any registry entries for Zoom.
Of course, I have archived the Zoom installer. I make a copy of the
installer and install from that copy because a successful installation
seems to delete the installer automatically. (Skype remains installed
on my PC.)

2. I enable my webcam and microphone only when I am going to use them.
If I am going to use Skype, I test the webcam and microphone using
Skype's [Settings > Audio & Video] before the meeting starts. If I am
going to use Zoom, I test the webcam and microphone using VLC's [Media >
Stream] before the meeting starts. For that latter, I must
significantly reduce the volumn of the audio because it streams locally
very loud with much static. The most important part of testing is to
make sure that the webcam is pointed correctly at me.

3. When I am done with either Zoom or Skype, I disable my webcam and
microphone. Then, I keep the webcam zipped into a black cloth bag. No,
I do not unplug either device because they are plugged into the back of
my PC tower, and it is a real bother to get at the plugs and ports.

There are three distinct tooltips that I frequently encounter. Each
requires a different way to disable it.

For tooltips on tabs:

1. Enter in the Address Bar.

2. If you get a warning popup, dismiss it.

3. Enter browser.tabs.tooltippreview.enable in the search area.

4. Select the line for browser.tabs.tooltippreview.enable.

5. Right-click and select Toggle.

For tooltips on the display of Web pages:

1. On the SeaMonkey menu bar, select [Edit > Preferences].

2. On the left side of the Preference window under Category, select
Appearance.

3. On the Appearance pane, clear the checkmark in the checkbox for Show
Tooltips. (To clear it, merely click on the checkbox.)

4. Select the OK button.

HOWEVER, I do NOT recommend disabling tooltips on the display of Web
pages. For links to other Web pages, they often give more detail about
the linked page before you select it. For images, they often describe
the image. I use them on my Web pages to indicate my copyright notices
for images I created; I also use them to warn users that selecting a
link on one of my Web pages will open a new tab or browser window
without leaving the current page.

BEFORE viewing Web pages at Wikipedia:

1. On the SeaMonkey menu bar, select [Edit > Preferences].

2. On the left side of the Preference window under Category, select
[Advanced > Scripts & Plugins].

3. On the Scripts & Plugins pane, clear the checkmark in the checkbox
for Browser directly under "Enable JavaScript for".

4. Select the OK button.

NOTE: Remember to restore the checkmark when you are through with
Wikipedia. Other Web sites might not display correctly if JavaScript
remains disabled. Also, this does not work on the current Wikipedia
page if you do it after you have loaded that page; if you leave that
page and then return to it, however, this should work.

One of my credit unions (I belong to two) has a navigation bar along the
left edge of every page. The Logoff link is at the bottom. The
navigation bar is NOT scrollable. I cannot see the Logoff link even if
I maximize the SeaMonkey winodw. Thus, to log off, I must use F11.
Even then, I have to collapse any of the navigation items I have expanded.

Also, I have to enable third-party cookies to see my monthly statements.

I call this design "user hostile".

The following works for SeaMonkey 2.49.5 under Windows 7. Something
very similar should work for your SeaMonkey 2.53.2 under your Windows
10. It takes two settings.

First setting:

1. On the SeaMonkey menu bar, select [Edit > Preferences].

2. On the left side of the Preferences window under Category, select
[Browser].

3. On the Browser pane, select the Set Default Browser button.

4. On the Preferences window, select the OK button to close the window.

Second setting:

1. In Windows 10, launch whatever corresponds to the Control Panel.

2. On the Control Panel window, select Default Programs.

3. On the Default Programs window, select "Set program access and
computer defaults".

4. On the Set Program Access and Computer Defaults, select the radio
button for Custom.

5. On the Custom pane under "Choose a default web browser", select the
radio button for SeaMonkey and then the OK button.

6. Close the Default Programs window.

No. In the United States, it is indeed illegal to make an item for your
own use if it is patented by someone else. However, it is NOT illegal
to make a copy of a work copyrighted by someone else if it is strictly
for your own non-commercial use. While you cannot generally make
multiple copies for the purpose of distributing them, there is also an
exception to that prohibition for certain "fair uses".

Instead of a plugin, consider ClipGrab at <https://clipgrab.org/>. If
you scroll down that Web page a little more than half way, you will find
a version for Ubuntu on the right side.

I use Windows. I download the Windows version and then disable my
Internet connection before installing ClipGrab. That way, I block the
installation of third-party nagware, which some consider to be malware.
I do not know if that installation approach is necessary for Ubuntu.

Once ClipGrab is installed, you start the playing of a YouTube
performance. Copy the URI and paste it into the top input area on
ClipGrab's Downloads tab. Initially, the Format selection list is
grayed-out. It becomes available after ClipGrab has analyzed the URI.
Then, you can select the format. There are three format choices that

for "original": video and audio-only.)

You might consider the following. Note that I am using Thunderbird
52.9.1. If you are using a newer version, some of the following might
be different. However, there should be equivalents.

1. Select [Tools > Options] on the main menu bar.

2. On the Options window, select [Advanced > Network & Disk Space >
Offline].

3. On the Offline Settings window, check the radio buttons for "Send
unsent messages when going online?"

Do you want it automatically (then Yes)? Do you want to pick and choose
(then Ask me)? Or do you always want to do this manually (then No)?

When I use "Send later", my Outbox label becomes bold. When I decide to
send the messages, I do not move them to Drafts. Instead (as I
indicated earlier), I select my Outbox, right-click, and select Send
Unset Messages.

NOTE: Thunserbird's Outbox is much like an Outbox folder in a Fax
application. They both hold messages you want to send, but you do not
want to send them until later.

Do you install SeaMonkey in its default location? If so, when you went
from x32 to x64, did you do the following, in this sequence?

1. Save your profile folder?

2. Remove the x32 version?

3. Install the x64 version?

Since I use Windows 7 and not Windows 10, I do not know if this is a
stupid question: Are you sure your PC and your Windows 10 are both x64?

Did you read ALL of the "Release Notes" for your version of SeaMonkey?
Have you heeded all the warnings there?

If are using Windows and you install in the default location, x32
installs in [C:\Program Files (x86)] and x64 installs in ["C:\Program
Files"]. In going from x32 to x64 you will have SeaMonkey twice and
there will be conflicts.

For many years, however, I have been installing SeaMonkey in a
non-default location that is on a drive that is NOT C. When I updated
from x32 to x64, I still installed in that location. In my case, not
uninstalling the older version was not necessary.

By the way, I consider my profiles to be data. I have them on a drive
that is neither C nor the drive where SeaMonkey is installed. All this
has been my configuration since at least 2014.

Thank you. I downloaded PDF Viewer 2.3.233 from that Web site,
installed it, and it works very well.

Nope, not Flash. I normally block Flash, but I enabled it when I tried

Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101
SeaMonkey/2.49.5

Since 2016, I have been using the PDF Viewer extension in place of the
Adobe Acrobat Reader plug-in. I have version 2.2.255, installed 4-Feb-20.

I do not know if that version is compatible with SeaMonkey 2.53. I do
know that several extensions that I use frequently are not compatible.
I have archived version 2.2.255. Reply to this newsgroup thread if you
want a copy, and I will upload it to my Web site for you to download.

I have had one problem with this extension. When I access my latest
bill from Southern California Edison via the Web, I cannot print it via
the extension. It prints. However, the amount due is close to the
right edge of the PDF file; and the cents amount is cut off. The
extension allows me to download the PDF, and I successfully print it via
Adobe's Acrobat Reader.

The later version 2.3.200 is available from
<https://mozilla.github.io/pdf.js/getting_started/#download>, but I do
not know if this is compatible with 2.49.5 or 2.53.

NOTE: The functionality of the PDF Viewer extension is incorporated
into the latest "vanilla" versions of Firefox.

One last comment: I stopped updating Adobe's Acrobat Reader with
version 11.0.23.22. I do not want to use Adobe's cloud system (or
anyone else's), and I really do not like the user interface of the
various DC versions of Acrobat Reader.

There are 115 HTML errors and 75 CSS errors in that Web page. I believe
your problem is with the Web page and not with SeaMonkey.

If SeaMonkey terminates unexpectedly and I relaunch, I get the option to
restore my failed session. I notice that the restored session might not
be quite what it was when SeaMonkey terminated.

Is there a preference variable that indicates how fequent SeaMonkey's

Yes, I am quite familiar with that. The resulting Customize Toolbar
window has a number of buttons, icons with text labels. What I want is
the buttons in the Customize Toolbar window (not on my actual tool bar)
to be sorted alphabetically by their text labels, thus making it easier
to find a particular button.

Yes, I installed it. It is indeed better than me manually terminating
and then relaunching SeaMonkey.

However, at least one change I do via PrefBar does not get reset when I
use the button. That is spoofing another browser via PrefBar's
"useragent", which uses scripts instead of preference variables. There
might be other PrefBar script-based actions that are not reset.

Aha! That is exactly what I have been seeking. Some Web sites that I
visit require that I change my preferences from what I usually have. I
use PrefBar for that. Sometimes the changes are so extensive, however,
that it is easier to terminate SeaMonkey and then relaunch it. If I was
in a profile that is not my default, that also means switching back to
the profile I was using.

If this restarts me back in my non-default profile, the Restart
Application button will be great.

Would the United States be more prepared to deal with COVID-19
if President Trump had not cut the budgets of the National

I use the the Permissions Menu menu list in PrefBar. This is NOT
inherent in the installed PrefBar. Instead, you must download it from
<http://prefbar.tuxfamily.org/buttons.html#permissionsmenu> and import
it into PrefBar. It provides the old way of managing cookies, popups,
images, and permissions for Web sites to install extensions and updates.

Would the United States be more prepared to deal with COVID-19
if President Trump had not cut the budgets of the National
Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention (CDC)? His administration also eliminated the
Directorate for Global Health and Security and Bio-Defense,
the agency within the National Security Council tasked to
provide early warnings about epidemics and pandemics.

Rejecting cookies breaks some Web sites. Instead, I makr the file
cookies.sqlite in my profile as read-only. The Web server thinks it is
setting cookies, but those cookies are lost as soon as I terminate
SeaMonkey.
