upgrading - finally!
OK, I know I will be getting some (lot) flak about not doing this sooner but the situation has changed and I can mow move forward. Here is my situation, I am now using SM 1.1.18 and will be upgrading to the latest greatest level. I am pretty sure that this cannot be done in one step, so my question is what is the best sequence to get the desired results for a somewhat novice person. What downloads are needed to get where I need or should be. My guess is there are more than a few sites that are not going to work properly with it as a result. What is keeping you from updating to the current version of Seamonkey? The only valid reason I could see to be still using it is if you have a very old and slow computer with an older OS on it. IE PIII or early PIV (under 2GHz) Thanks, that is what I was afraid of. The reason is that my wife is not very computer savvy and we used to use Mozilla before it became SM. The only problem we had when we change was that emails became a problem for the wife. Under Moz. I was able to filter out all addresses of her friends and put them into her mail box. Then whenever she would forward/reply to an email, it would show her as the sender and not me. I know it is a small thing to just change it in address box, BUT, like I said, she is not very savvy and memory is short. When SM came about I started using it and was happy and she was still able to use Moz. since SM 1.x.xx and Moz shared the files. However, when SM 2 hit the road, there was no more sharing causing some problems with her emailing friends. After using SM 2.XX for a month or so I had to backtrack to SM1.1.18 and that is where I am today. I don't really see any problems with SM 2.XXX, with the above exceptions. After SM2 came out I did asked how I could make some personal changes to the program, but all I got was, if you don't like it, don't use it, which really surprised me since the different forums have always been so friendly. I would update to SM 1.1.19 though, just to have the latest you can have. I'm stuck there with one of my Mac systems as well, and it doesn't bother me. Another thing you could try is spoofing your User Agent string. I like this addon - http://chrispederick.com/work/user-agent-switcher/ And here is some additional information on building UA strings - http://www.useragentstring.com/ I only suggest this because SM 2.something and up has the option to advertise Firefox compatibility and saw that your 1.1.18 string has 1.1.18 NOT Firefox included in it. Spoofing may help, may not...but it's something to try. Good suggestion, will consider trying it. See if this sksmaild.exe is listed under the start up tab of MSCONFIG, if it is disable it and see what happens. email question
OK, I can use some help. I would like to migrate to SM 2.X but due to some technical problems I am unable. Here is a little history and the problem… I use to use Mozilla and when the wife got involved with emails to her friends I set up a filter that would put all emails from her friends email addresses into her own account. She was able to reply, forward, etc with her own name (Jane Doe usern...@prodigy.net) automatically inserted as the sender into the email. This was good since she is very limited in her computer skills. I was able to migrate to SM (currently 1.1.18) and everything remained the same since both MOZ and SM share files. Here is the problem, SM 2.X doesn’t share the same files so when an email from her friends come in and get filtered to her account, she is not able to see these new emails using MOZ and if I set her up to use SM 2, she is able to read but any response she makes will put my name as the sender. She has to wait for me to make any changes before she sends out the email. Is it possible to modified something in SM 2.X to allow email to filter to my wifes account and have her name automatically inserted as the sender instead of mine. She doesn’t want to have her own address to work with. Mail moving question
Under Moz 1.7.13 I am able to have my mail account (eg john doe t...@prodigy.net and one for my wife (jane doe bluego...@prodigy.net. I had a message filter set up that would use her friends addresses and move her mail from my inbox mail to her inbox. She was able to reply, forward the message or compose as she wished and the email would show her name as the sender. Using SM, if she does a compose, the email will have her name as the sender, but if she does a reply or forward, it will put my name as the sender. I have not been able to locate what or how I can make this correction. I know that she could choose her name from the drop down list but she is not very computer savvy and I want to make things easy for her. Currently I have her sign on using Moz and everything works fine and I can use SM and be able to access mail and/or internet. Since Moz and SM use the same files (about:config, etc) I am unable to determine what if anything can be changed. Hopefully this all makes sense to someone and a easy fix is available.
