Not that I could make sense of it even with those details, but I would expect

[sword-devel] osis2mod infinite loop

2020-12-11 Thread Michael Johnson
Perhaps someone can help me with this. I'm trying to make an English Septuagint
module. The Septuagint, of course, has no Revelation (or any of the New
Testament). So the output I get makes no sense at all. It makes no difference
if I select NRSVA or LXX versification.

The command:

osis2mod
"/home/kahunapule/sync/BibleConv/sword/modules/texts/ztext/engBrent1851eb"
"/home/kahunapule/sync/BibleConv/output/eng-Brenton/mosis/eng-Brenton_osis.xml"
-z -b 4 -v LXX

Results in an infinite loop of:

One step beyond from DM Smith's response: if you correct the osis2mod statement
to output to the rawtext folder, it should conform to naming conventions. You
might also have to update the conf file to point to this location.

That is

use this command to create the module:

osis2mod ./modules/texts/rawtext/ts2009/ TS2009Ver100.osis.xml -c ts2009

and modify the appropriate lines in the conf file:

[TS2009]

DataPath=./modules/texts/rawtext/ts2009/

ModDrv=RawText

CompressType=ZIP <--- delete this line if it exists

CipherKey=TS1998 <--- delete this line if you started with the conf file for
TS1998.

Note the bracketed first line is the text you should see in front end programs
to select the module. Frontend programs do not display the path outside of
module management.

cannot open the output files for writing. If there are currently files there it
should update them.

Since you didn’t include any flags for compression, the module that is put
there won’t be compressed.

osis2mod doesn’t care about the module’s conf. That is supposed to be created
based upon how you build the module, i.e. what flags you use for osis2mod. I’m
guessing your conf doesn’t match with regard to compression. If that’s the case
the module won’t work.

Also if you are on a modern version of Windows, you might not have permission
to write to c:\Program Files (x86)\CrossWire\The SWORD
Project\modules\texts\ztext\ts2009

Hope this helps,

Re: [sword-devel] osis2mod

2018-03-11 Thread Michael H
One step beyond from DM Smith's response: if you correct the osis2mod
statement to output to the rawtext folder, it should conform to naming
conventions. You might also have to update the conf file to point to this
location.

That is

use this command to create the module:

osis2mod ./modules/texts/*rawtext*/ts2009/ TS2009Ver100.osis.xml -c ts2009

and modify the appropriate lines in the conf file:

*[TS2009]*
DataPath=./modules/texts/*rawtext/ts2009/*
ModDrv=*RawText*
*CompressType=ZIP *<--- delete this line if it exists
*CipherKey=TS1998* <--- delete this line if you started with the conf file
for TS1998.

Note the bracketed first line is the text you should see in front end
programs to select the module. Frontend programs do not display the path
outside of module management.

Except in the .conf file, the module path in Windows should use rather than /

The .conf file is cross-platform, so a choice was made at the beginning to use
/ as in Linux.

Re: [sword-devel] osis2mod

2018-03-11 Thread DM Smith
Johan,

The output should be located at ./modules/texts/ztext/ts2009. Those folders
should already be there. There should be some kind of failure message if it
cannot open the output files for writing. If there are currently files there it
should update them.

Since you didn’t include any flags for compression, the module that is put
there won’t be compressed.

osis2mod doesn’t care about the module’s conf. That is supposed to be created
based upon how you build the module, i.e. what flags you use for osis2mod. I’m
guessing your conf doesn’t match with regard to compression. If that’s the case
the module won’t work.

Also if you are on a modern version of Windows, you might not have permission
to write to c:\Program Files (x86)\CrossWire\The SWORD
Project\modules\texts\ztext\ts2009

Hope this helps,
DM Smith

DM Smith,

It looks like this:

C:\Program Files (x86)\CrossWire\The SWORD Project>osis2mod
./modules/texts/ztext/ts2009/ TS2009Ver100.osis.xml -c ts2009

Adding cipher filter with phrase: ts2009

SUCCESS: osis2mod: has finished its work and will now rest

C:\Program Files (x86)\CrossWire\The SWORD Project>

Only the following are in the “The SWORD Project” folder:

Utilities from Xiphos

ts2009.conf file in the “mods.d” folder

The following folder structure, under “The SWORD Project”

modules

The .conf file starts with [TS2009] and the

DataPath=./modules/texts/ztext/ts2009/

[sword-devel] osis2mod changes

2016-02-06 Thread DM Smith
I’ve just updated osis2mod to do 2 things:
1) leave … alone. That is don’t change the divs to
milestones.
2) look for entities that shouldn’t be in a module and report them. While
numeric entities are allowed in xml, SWORD does not convert these to their text
value. At a later date, we can change osis2mod to convert them to their text
value.

Now to document the change in the wiki…

DM

Re: [sword-devel] osis2mod default versification

2015-09-06 Thread Michael H
I've been unable to verify what I was looking at when I came to the
conclusion that NRSV was used when osis2mod is run without a -v parameter.

My apologies to DM Smith and David H for creating any misunderstanding.

I now suspect I've misread a New Testament introduction that claims to be
following the King James Version to apply to the versification, when it was
only intended to apply to the source text used. (which means an error
'appending 3 John 15 to 14' was probably misunderstood as a default in the
program, not a vague statement in that intro.)

The utility imp2vs also provides for a -v flag. The default is KJV.

The copy of imp2vs.exe installed along with Xiphos 4.0.3 is still Rev 2234.

Defaults in SWORD utilities should remain consistent.

There are a few more changes that can be documented, such as the change of the

The de facto observation that recent builds of osis2mod make NRSV the default
v11n raises several questions:

When was this change sneaked in?

Was there a formal agreement among developers?

Was there any announcement?

Why was this not mentioned on the Developers' wiki?

Which other SWORD utilities have been changed (if any)?

How come the change was not reflected in the SYNTAX HELP ? (as Michael H

Re: [sword-devel] osis2mod default versification

2015-09-05 Thread Michael H
In modern Bible Translation (Wycliffe/SIL) circles, "default" versification
in the translation programs (ParaTExt, SIL Translation Editor, and Teus'
BiblEdit) is 'English' which is (as far as I know) the same versification
as what Sword calls NRSV, so this change should be considered. It will
cause less confusion for folks who've spent years working translations with
Wycliffe get their texts into sword format. There won't be that many 'new'
translations which are using KJV as their versification.

However:

1. The documentation should reflect what the code does. If the manpages
have been abandoned, they should disappear.

2. Existing modules which use KJV versification typically leave the
Versification= line out of the .conf file (SpaRVG for example). Without an
effort to fix these legacy .conf files (forcing all .conf files to be
explicit about versification) I suspect eventually there will be front end
problems misinterpreting what 'default' means.

All significant changes for osis2mod should be documented!

Here's where past changes are listed.

http://www.crosswire.org/wiki/Osis2mod#History_of_Changes

Changing a default setting is one of the worst things a programmer can
do!

It would be better to have removed the default and made the -v flag a
mandatory requirement.
Then at least every user would soon find out that his old script or
remembered command line now gave an error message.

Re: [sword-devel] osis2mod default versification

2015-09-05 Thread DM Smith
Osis2mod handles mid-verse section titles properly. The problem is elsewhere.
They work just fine in Bible Desktop and other JSword applications.

Regarding more v11n, this has nothing to do with osis2mod. osis2mod merely
knows what SWORD makes available and allows that.

Re: [sword-devel] osis2mod default versification/MIDVERSE SECTION TITLES

2015-09-05 Thread Kahunapule Michael Johnson

I just tried a build with midverse
section titles turned on with Xiphos, and lo and behold, it
worked! Someone fixed something or my memory was faulty or both.
Verified with kkl2015eb, Acts 9:19. (This is the newest Bible in
  the collection.)
If you don't want to see the noncanonical section headings, you
can always turn them off. The GlobalOptionFilter=OSISHeadings conf
option is set where applicable (which will be for most of the
  Bibles in the collection).
The eBible.org/swordbeta repository is being incrementally updated
again, turning section titles on globally.

I think there is a misunderstanding.

When i said NRSV is the default, thrn i meant simply that the bulk of all
translations i load up are NRSV and i tend not to even consider KJV, unless
forced to.

It is quite clear that none of the tools havr changed, also the engine has not
changed, nor is any change necessary for having NRSV as first choicr whenever
it fits.

Re versifications, the need for any v11n needs to be established and well
documented. Once in use we can not easily withdraw any v11n, so introduction
happens careful, but nothing should stop you making a good case for specific
new v11n(s). Domcox has just now produced two new v11ns which hopefully will
make it into svn soon. You should check them esp with French Pacific island
languages.

I understand the way things are and have been for years. It is hard
to change, but not impossible. If someone wanted to implement
per-module versifications such that code changes weren't necessary
to deal with the way someone else split up the Bible into chapters
and verses, I would be all for it. But not enough to code the
changes, at least not now.

Domcox has just now produced two new v11ns which hopefully will make it into svn soon. You should check them esp with French Pacific island languages.

I intend to add those v11ns to my versification checks when support
for them in Sword is real in the stable Sword utilities and they are
supported by the distribution versions of all actively-supported
front ends. Someone please let me know when that happens.

Seriously, there is no point making modules with a versification
nobody can read, yet. Once support is real, it is not hard for me to
check every single module again to see if the "least bad"
versification has changed with the addition of any new ones.

[sword-devel] osis2mod

2013-02-18 Thread DM Smith
FYI, I just checked in a bug fix and a minor enhancement.

The enhancement allows newlines within tags as in:
tag
attr=value
attr2=xxx

This will become tag attr=value attr2=xxx . It simply replaces a '\n'
with a ' '.
Note: This also changes \n in an attributes value to a ' '.

The bug was that space was being introduced within interverse content. This
typically wouldn't be noticable, but it was putting a space after every tag
even when the text that was between tags started with punctuation.

Re: [sword-devel] osis2mod warnings

2012-10-11 Thread DM Smith

On Oct 10, 2012, at 1:02 AM, Greg Hellings greg.helli...@gmail.com wrote:

There are two osis2mod warnings I'm getting that seem strange to me.
The first is when it encounters post-verse material. It will issue a

 3John.1.14
INFO(WRITE): Appending entry: 3John.1.14: *snipped content of 3John.1.14*

Now the material in question is simply a few closing colophons and/or
closing tags from the material in 3 John. Jude is, most definitely, a
part of the KJV versification. But when I got this message the first
time I ended up spinning in circles a few times looking for the issue
before realizing it was just an oddly worded debug statement. Perhaps
this should be altered to reflect what is actually happening?

Osis2mod splits the input into chunks and tries to figure out which slot in the
index to put that chunk. W/o seeing your file, it is hard to tell what the
problem actually is, so I'm going to guess.

Maybe the colophon is not contained within the last chapter/book of John?
Anything between books may be taken to belong to the next book. There may be a
problem in assigning that to Jude.0.0 (i.e. the book introduction).

That the osisID given is Jude, this indicates that it did not find Jude.1.1
when it tried to add a chunk, therefore it attaches to the last seen verse in
the av11n, which in this case is 3John.1.14.

OSIS requires a chapter of 1 for single chapter books. I don't think this is
the problem.

If you can supply the end of 3John and the start of Jude, I can probably
pinpoint the problem and perhaps improve the diagnostics, if it is not a code
change.

 Secondly is the warning pair:
 WARNING(NESTING): verse Gen.10.2 is not well formed:(3,5)
 WARNING(NESTING): verse Gen.10.4 is not well formed:(5,3)

 The offending text reads:
 verse osisID=Gen.10.2 sID=Gen.10.2/listitem
type=x-indent-1Ahima a Zhafeti yaali: Goomeri, Magogi, Madayi,
 Yavani, Tubali, Mexeki, ni Tirasi./item
 item type=x-indent-1verse eID=Gen.10.2/
 verse osisID=Gen.10.3 sID=Gen.10.3/Ahima a Goomeri yaali
 Axekenazi, Rifati ni Togaarima./item
 item type=x-indent-1verse eID=Gen.10.3/
 verse osisID=Gen.10.4 sID=Gen.10.4/Ahima a Yavani yaali: Elixa,
 Tarixixi, Kitiimi ni Rodanimu./item/list
 pverse eID=Gen.10.4/

My assumption is that the not well formed warning is coming from the
list ... /list that is spanning across multiple verses. Yet
strangely these spanning item tags (misplaced by usfm2osis.py or in
the wrong place in the USFM files) are not generating a warning. What
is the malformed issue here? xmllint seems to think the file validates
against the official OSIS schema, so it's not an XML validation issue.

The issue is not an xml one, or one of syntax, but rather semantics and use.

First, the warning is just that: a warning. It is not an error. It is saying
that the verse as a fragment is not well formed. Osis2mod transforms container
elements to milestone form to handle this. Perhaps this is not transformed or
is not available to be transformed. If transformed, then the verse is
well-formed and the warning should not happen (IIRC).

Second, the problem with this is when the verse is shown in isolation. If the
verse is shown in isolation, it may not render properly because it does not
have the entire context. Also, JSword has a requirement that a verse be a
well-formed fragment. Otherwise, it strips out all markup and leaves the
content. (This gets confusing when notes are shown inline!) JSword needs to
change.

I guess the message could be made to be clearer.

Also, this list construct is problematic. It has nothing to do with the warning.
First, why is list and item used? Is it really a list? I don't know how
SWORD renders this, but JSword uses a bulleted list. If this is markup for
poetry, it should be using OSIS poetry markup.
Second, having verselist rather than listverse will probably cause the
verse number to be rendered on the line prior to the start of the list.
Third, having verseitem may have the same orphan verse number problem. The
item element typically causes rendering to be done at the start tag.

A list should typically end after a verse. (Same with other container markup.)
It certainly should not be immediately before a verse end.

The p is not placed well. It does not make sense that a paragraph starts
within a verse, unless it splits the verse content. (same with other container
markup.)

This may be more of a problem with usfm2osis.

 Any help would be appreciated.

Don't know if that helps.

Re: [sword-devel] osis2mod warnings

2012-10-11 Thread Andrew Thule
Greg, I've seen these errors to. I found the 'problem' was associated
with the first citation in the error, not the one being tacked on to.
In your example:
Jude is not in the KJV versification. Appending content to 3John.1.14

Is there anything (such as extra verses) tacked on to the end of Jude
that strictly speaking isn't in the versification you are using? If
so those 'extra' verses are being treated as the beginning of
3John.1.14.

When I've encountered the problem, it was one of the two following
scenarios: either the text provided extra verses not found in the
versification, OR there was extra text in the chapter that appeared to
OSIS2MOD to be extra verses but which should have appeared to be
treated differently in the OSIS such as textual variants to be treated
as textual variants.

In the former case (a few verses not found in the versification), it
would be nice to be able to influence versification more directly as a
module developer. Until that happens, the solution is to find a
versification that MOST matches the text you are working with (my
example of this the LXXE). In the latter case the solution is to
simply look at the text causing the error, and to treat it differently
by using the appropriate OSIS tags (treating variants as variants for
example, etc).

Secondly is the warning pair:
WARNING(NESTING): verse Gen.10.2 is not well formed:(3,5)
WARNING(NESTING): verse Gen.10.4 is not well formed:(5,3)

The offending text reads:
verse osisID=Gen.10.2 sID=Gen.10.2/listitem
type=x-indent-1Ahima a Zhafeti yaali: Goomeri, Magogi, Madayi,
Yavani, Tubali, Mexeki, ni Tirasi./item
item type=x-indent-1verse eID=Gen.10.2/
verse osisID=Gen.10.3 sID=Gen.10.3/Ahima a Goomeri yaali
Axekenazi, Rifati ni Togaarima./item
item type=x-indent-1verse eID=Gen.10.3/
verse osisID=Gen.10.4 sID=Gen.10.4/Ahima a Yavani yaali: Elixa,
Tarixixi, Kitiimi ni Rodanimu./item/list
pverse eID=Gen.10.4/

My assumption is that the not well formed warning is coming from the
list ... /list that is spanning across multiple verses. Yet
strangely these spanning item tags (misplaced by usfm2osis.py or in
the wrong place in the USFM files) are not generating a warning. What
is the malformed issue here? xmllint seems to think the file validates
against the official OSIS schema, so it's not an XML validation issue.

Any help would be appreciated.

 Hi all,

I've struggled with large commentaries before.  It always seemed that once
commentary sections get too big, then random sections of text start

I'm currently almost done repackaging a part of the EarlyFathers module to
be the homilies of John Chrysostom in commentary form.  Thing is, his
homilies are long and I'm hitting the same problems again.  Previously, I've
been able to split sections between verses to awkwardly get things to work.
This time I can't; some of these large homilies are on a single verse, and
have another homily on the next.

So this time I've had no choice but to give up or to buckle down and get
something that the developers can really bite into.  I've created an example
OSIS module.  One section: Matt.1.1.  No special characters, no footnotes,
no headers, almost no markup at all really.

I'm not compiling it into a compressed format.  My command/output is:
 [bjdasc@ascpc5] osis2mod mod debug.osis.xml
 You are running osis2mod: $Rev: 2671 $
SUCCESS: osis2mod: has finished its work and will now rest

I can't always predict *exactly* at what size it will fail (it seems to
depend on things like number of paragraph markers, etc).  But it always
fails when the section gets to be roughly 64,000 - 65,000 characters.  This
is a pretty suspicious number, being just below 2^16.  I assume that I can't
exactly predict the size because there's some overhead, some amount for
 paragraph markers, header, etc.

The attached example file fails (I've also included the conf file that I'm
using to make life easier for any developer that wishes to look at this).
The output is drastically shorter than the input.  Please delete one
character from the text in Matt.1.1.  It all works nicely.

This is not a front end problem.  I can reproduce the problem in either
Xiphos or diatheke.  My diatheke command has been:
 diatheke -b Chrysostom  -k Mt 1:1

But you can even see when it has failed by the size of the nt file created
by osis2mod.  This osis file, as attached, creates an nt file that is 70
bytes.  Delete one character and it goes up to 65607 bytes.  Note that 70
 bytes + 2^16 bytes = 65606 bytes.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ... I beg you ... I'm stuck without a fix to
this ... it seems like it's an array size limit or a compiler size limit for
some data type or something like that.  If you need some legwork, then let
 me know; I'll do it.

 Thanks in advance,
 Brian

Brian,

Try adding the switch '-s 4' to your import. Also change your driver
in the conf file to RawCom4. This will increase the per-entry size
limit from 2^16 bytes (the default) to 2^32 bytes giving you an
effective limit of 2GB for each verse or other entry.

Thanks very, very much! That's so simple! I had tried each, but not
together.

Does this, however, mean that compressing the module is not an option?
If I read correctly, the -s 4 option is only for uncompressed modules,
and there seems to be no analog to RawCom4 that handles very large entries.

Hi Matej,

The difference is that you compiled it as a compressed module. This
makes the limit to be 64kb per section after it is zipped. If you
triple the contents of the div then you'd have the same trouble.

I avoided using a zipped module so that the issue wasn't confused, but

I can't guarantee that the actual internal problem is identical, but if
not then a very similar problem exists using zipped modules. I first
noticed the problem when using compressed modules exclusively.

I avoided using a zipped module so that the issue wasn't confused,

I was under the impression that zipped modules do not suffer from the

I can't guarantee that the actual internal problem is identical, but
if not then a very similar problem exists using zipped modules. I
first noticed the problem when using compressed modules exclusively.

I can confirm, to my surprise, that compressed modules appear unable to
accommodate entries above 64kb. I tested osis2mod's ability to generate
compressed modules as well as mod2zmod's ability to compress RawText4
modules, and neither work. I also tried out LZSS compression variable
compression granularities, so it's probably something upstream in zText,
zVerse, or such.

Converting these to the milestoned form would be useful to prevent nesting

I have created a TextPipe subfilter that can do this.

Yes - threaded views in email clients (or Nabble) help to contextualize such
one liners!

It would be helpful to module developers to know where to obtain the conf
files necessary for localization of book names, etc.

The fledgeling wiki page does not yet cover this topic.

http://crosswire.org/wiki/Localization

As you're one of those who knows where they are, perhaps you might find time
to expand on this topic in the wiki.

This suggestion does not debar others from volunteering, of course.

There are many locations in the source text where spaces were omitted.
I've been able to tackle most of these by searching for various patterns.

The following questions remain:

Is it correct for the left and right ceiling characters to be found within
words?

Or should the left ceiling always be preceded by a space (or a start
quotation mark),
and the right ceiling by either a space (or a suitable punctuation mark)?

Everyone,

I have spent a good part of today using TextPipe to fix the pretty OSIS
XML file, and have made substantial progress.

Here's a bulleted list of fixes already done...

* A second bookGroup division for the NT
* Book divisions (66)
* Chapter elements (1089)
* Section titles (2084)
* Verse end milestones (31169)

At this stage the OSIS XML still validates.

Currently working on the paragraph tags, each of which merely enclosed a
pilcrow ¶ sign.
Wrapped the actual paragraphs instead, and moved the pilcrow to paragraph
start.
btw. As with the KJV, the first verse of a chapter does not have a pilcrow.
Hit complications in Revelation where some quote marks and paragraphs are in
conflict.
i.e. A nesting problem to be solved.

A further question for Matěj

I suspect that the following codepoints may need converting from a legacy

002045 ⁅ LEFT SQUARE BRACKET WITH QUILL 1,648
002046 ⁆ RIGHT SQUARE BRACKET WITH QUILL 1,648

If that's not the case, their use in the Czech language requires explaining.

I have added the following line to the .conf file so that these strange
characters are displayed.
Font=Code2000

I have also disabled the following two filters, as I could not find any
corresponding OSIS tags.
;GlobalOptionFilter=OSISVariants

NB. Not yet pursued Peter's suggestion to code the other cross references
that are still plain text.

It feels like a day well spent.

They are not relevant to Czech, but these were my attempts to somehow

... hmm, looking at the original text once more it seems like my bug

zprávueczuv/.

Zároveň tento výraz označoval bczuv/dobrou zprávueczuv/ samu. Základem
užití tohoto slova v#x00A0;NS je Stará smlouva (LXX). Velmi důležité
jsou texty, kde

se vyskytuje příslušné odvozené sloveso italiceuangelizesthai/italic

Iz#x00A0;52,7 a#x00A0;61,1pomlcka/3;

srv. Sk#x00A0;5,42p/defpozn

Here ⁅ ⁆ are translations of bczuv/ and eczuv/ respectively which
are just (beginning|end)-of-Czech-úvozovek (quotes), so I guess these
should be translated to plain Unicode „ and “ (which is the way we use
double quotes). I have to check once more why I didn't translated it to
double-quotes in the first place. (The other tags here should be simple
... defpozn is “defition of poznámka” (note), italic is obvious,
pomlcka/ stands for em-dash; preservation of unbreakable space is
important for following of Czech grammar rules about breaking lines).

italic and bczuv are just two examples of many cases of mixing
semantic and typographic markup in the text.

I haven't seen the code really for the last couple of months, so I have
to recheck why I didn't go the obvious way and make bczuv/ and
eczuv/ into proper double-quotes.

---
⌈ and ⌉ are more complicated. They are originally bkzavorka/ and
ekzavorka/ and they limit the text for which the appropriate
translator note is used. See again the first two verses of the Mark’s
gospel:

kap n=1/
vers n=1/Počátekodkazo n=o1/ evangeliaodkaz n=v1/ Ježíše Krista,
hzavorkaSyna Božího/hzavorkaodkazo n=o2/ bkzavorka/.

hzavorkajá/hzavorka posílám svého poslaodkaz n=t4/ před tvou tváří,
který futupraví/fut tvou cestu italic[před
tebou]/italic.odkazo n=o3/

Here odkaz n=t2/ (“odkaz” is “a reference” in Czech) referes to the
text over the border of verse “. Jak” (and apparently, IMHO, this is a
mistake in the original markup of the text, but it is so printed in the
paper version of the Bible). Other codes, just to make more examples:

- kap/ is a chapter milestone
- vers/ is a verse milestone
- odkazo is a “o-type” reference (meaning a reference to a footnote
containing reference to the other verse of the Bible, the other one is
odkaz/ for a footnote with the actual text of translator’s note).
- hzavorka element is a markup for the text used in less important
manuscripts (although John 7:59-8:11 is not marked up at all and there
is only a odkaz at Jn 7:59; the same goes for Mk 16:9- which has also
only a text note explaining that the rest of the chapter is not present
in many important manuscripts), so they used it probably only for small
portions of text.
- perf is an element marking the verb in the Greek perfectum, which is
difficult to translate correctly to Czech as we don't have perfectum as
a special case for verbs.
- czap is an element for “text quoted by Czech apostrophe”, and I am
not sure whether in all cases it means a quotation of the Old Testament
text in the New Testament (as in this case).
- fut is another case of marking up a Greek verb which cannot be well
translated into Czech; here it is the other way around ... Czech future
tenses are more rich than Greek ones (there are grammatical aspects
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammatical_aspect in Czech, which are not
in Greek; so a Czech translation could make a difference which isn’t in
the original text.

I hope I've shown you what's the battle I am fighting with.

Guys, thank you so so much for helping with this!

Blessings,

Matěj

Re: [sword-devel] osis2mod very happily generates modules with no text visible

2011-12-27 Thread DM Smith
Replying to the entire thread:
Debugging:
The -d flag is very helpful to see what osis2mod is doing.
You can use the -d flag multiple times as in -d 1 -d 4 or
add them together as in -d 5 or
both -d 5 -d 8
To get full debugging -d 1023

SIGSEGV
I think Troy and I fixed this in SVN, revision 2669 in versekey.cpp and
2671 in osis2mod.cpp.
You are using 2562.
This bug is hit when a chapter is not in the chosen versification.
Since the output is not flushed with every verse, the raw dat file is
not helpful in determining where the problem occurs, but only that it occurs
after that point.

David's suggestion for raw text:
During development, it is best to use raw text as you can open the dat
file(s) and see what is present.
Pretty much it should be everything except verse markers.
If you use -d 2, it will put verse markers into the output.

Sub-identifiers:
SWORD engine cannot handle ! in the osisID, so osis2mod strips them off
of the osisIDs for verses.
I did not see any for verses, but only for notes.

Markup of cross references:
Peter mentioned that references should be marked up.
In your module you frequently have something like:
note osisRef=Gen.1.1 osisID=Gen.1.1!o1 type=crossReference
n=o1
14,19;
Ex 20,11;
Iz 37,16;
Jr 32,17;
1Pa 16,26;
Neh 9,6;
Ž 8,4;
115,15;
Sk 4,24
/note
The problem with this is that the SWORD and JSword engines won't create
clickable references for such a note.
You should wrap each reference with:
reference osisRef=Gen.14.1914,19/reference;
reference osisRef=Exod.20.11Ex 20,11/reference;

While OSIS allows for more than one reference in an osisRef, SWORD does
not handle the linking for it, but only the first listed. Unless the osisRef is
for adjacent verses in the same chapter, split each reference into its own tag.

Sub-identifiers:
osis2mod handles sub-identifiers on a verse's osisID by stripping it
off.
Are there any? I didn't see any.
-d 128 will output DEBUG(REF): Found a grain suffix when it finds
one.
If it finds Gen.1.1!a and later Gen.1.1!b, it will append Gen.1.1!b to
what was already found for Gen.1.1.
To generalize: osis2mod does not care what the order of verses are in
the module. It will quite happily re-order them. And if it finds the same verse
reference a subsequent time, it will append the text to the verse.
However, an osisID=Gen.1.1 Gen.1.2!a followed by osisID=Gen.1.2!b
Gen.1.3 will not be handled as you might expect.
All the text will be stored in the dat file, but the idx files might
not point properly.

Book tags:
Can be either(in order of recommendation):
div type=book osisID=Gen sID=Gen/ ... div eID=Gen/
div type=book osisID=Gen.../div
Osis2mod uses the book divs to determine what titles are book titles.
Osis2mod also uses them to determine whether the book is in the v11n.
If they are not present, it assumes they are. This could cause SIGSEGV/
Osis2mod does not require book divs. But you should have them.

Chapter tags:
Can be one of (in order of recommendation):
chapter osisID=Gen.1 sID=Gen.1/ ... chapter eID=Gen.1/
div type=chapter sID=Gen.1/...div eID=Gen.1/
chapter osisID=Gen.1.../chapter
div type=chapter osisID=Gen.1.../div
Osis2mod uses the chapter tags to help determine what titles before
verse 1 are chapter titles.
Osis2mod does not require chapter tags, but you should have them.

Verse tags:
Can be either (in order of recommendation):
verse osisID=Gen.1.1 sID=Gen.1.1/ ... verse
eID=Gen.1.1/
verse osisID=Gen.1.1.../verse
The milestoned version is probably required when you have robust
structural markup (e.g. poetry, section divs, quotations).

eID:
For each sID, you must have a corresponding eID.
The use of sID and eID must be properly nested.
The value of the sID/eID pair can be anything, but typically it matches
the osisID.

I didn't look for other problems in the module.

Hope this helps.

Also, so far (I may relax this in the future) the OSIS file is generated
by a XSLT transformation from the original XML files used in translation
(https://gitorious.org/sword/czekms-csp_bible/blobs/master/CEP2OSIS.xsl). I
am not the best XSLT (try the other end of spectrum) so some things may

I did not see any for verses, but only for notes.

You are quite correct. When I stripped out all the note elements (using
TextPipe) there were no sub-identifiers left within the resulting XML file.

2011-12-27 Thread David Haslam
I suppose that strictly speaking a SWORD module can be made without having
bookGroup or x-testament division[s].

Otherwise the append option -a in osis2mod could not be used to build a
successful module.
i.e. If you append each book (apart from the first) from a separate OSIS
file (as I have on other occasions), the resulting module could not have any
testament divs, could it? Yet it still works.

Has anyone else made a pretty-print version of Matěj's OSIS file?
It certainly helps to see the wood from the trees.

As a useful tip, it's generally a good idea to first to make a rawtext module

This avoids some known bugs in making a ztext module directly using

You can easily use mod2zmod to compress it afterwards.

Re: [sword-devel] osis2mod very happily generates modules with no text visible

2011-12-25 Thread David Haslam
Your OSIS XML file makes extensive use of sub-identifiers.
This is the first time I've seen these in any OSIS file.
I have not seen these discussed in any previous threads in the mailing list.
This might turn out to be the real cause of why osis2mod doesn't produce a
useful module.

The relevant section in the OSIS Reference Manual is:

15.3. Sub-identifiers

Translations also often split verses into parts, provided labels such as ‘a’
and ‘b’ for the separate parts.
Encoders may freely add sub-identifiers below the lowest standardized level.
They are set off from the
standardized portion by the character ‘!’. For example:

Rev.2.20!b

Such subdivisions are not standard across different translations, so
applications must be prepared to discard them when trying to locate a
referenced location in a different edition. These extensions are not
considered a formal part of the canonical reference scheme, and so a work
that uses them need not claim it is using a different scheme.

[sword-devel] osis2mod very happily generates modules with no text visible

2011-12-24 Thread Matěj Cepl

Hi,

trying to create an official version of the Czech Study Translation
(what used to be CzeKMS, but it is now severely outdated and
incomplete). I have original source in their custom XML scheme and I
have created XSLT stylesheet
(http://mcepl.fedorapeople.org/tmp/CEP2OSIS.xsl) which generates OSIS
file (http://mcepl.fedorapeople.org/tmp/bible.xml.gz 4MB). The OSIS file
validates and when I run

osis2mod modules/texts/ztext/czecsp/ bible.xml -v German

(osis2mod: $Rev: 2562 $; without -v parameter osis2mod core dumps;
judging by the backtrace on
http://mcepl.fedorapeople.org/tmp/osis2mod-gdb-output.txt.gz I would
assume some kind of endless loop happened).

However, when running with -v German, it ends up happily (with -d 1021
it generates tons of logs but I don't see any errors there;
http://mcepl.fedorapeople.org/tmp/osis2mod.log.gz 11.3MB). The problem
is that however I tried (including with diatheke and lookup build from
the same source as osis2mod) I don't see any text in the generated
bibles (./diatheke -b CzeCSP -f plain -e UTF8 -k Jn 3:16 returns
nothing; the ZIP file is http://matej.ceplovi.cz/cizi/CzeCSP.zip).

Anybody any ideas what's wrong?

Thanks in advance for any kicking in the right direction,

Matěj

P.S.: Also what is the state of the support for av11n (including -v
German) in AndBible and jSword?

Paal,

Have you also tried making a rawtext module rather than a ztext module?

We know that there is at least one bug that affects ztext and not rawtext
when using osis2mod.exe

And the messages output during build may differ too!

David

Before today, the previous comment was dated 01/Dec/10.

I've just provided some further evidence.

It's not that reversified text gets /omitted/ (though that would be serious
enough in itself).
It's that for a /ztext/ module, the existing text gets *overwritten*, which
is extremely critical.

I thought it was fixed. I'll look at it to see what I can do.

Re: [sword-devel] Osis2mod fail to convert my OSIS file to Sword module

2011-11-12 Thread DM Smith

The osis2mod tool fails to convert my OSIS file to a Sword module. I am using
build 2562. The tool terminates in Lamentations 3:22 without any error message.
The module created contains all verse until Lamentations 3:22, all the rest are
empty. When I check the error level returned from the tool I get -1073741819,
which is the same as 0x3FFB.

I have created a new OSIS file where all the verses are the string x, but the
tool fails anyway. I have validated my OSIS file, so it should be correct. I have also
checked at the part of it where the problem occurrs, but I can't see any reason it should
stop at Lam 3:22.

Now I wonder if anyone else would like to run osis2mod modulefolder bible.xml -v
German on my OSIS file or take a look at the xml file in case there is something
wrong.

Paal,
I haven't found the bug in the program that is causing the exit without
an error message. But I have found the problem with the input.

In the German versification, Lamentations has 5 chapters. Your module
goes to chapter 53. I'm not sure what the proper encoding of chapters
6-53 should be. But it won't be Lamentations. (Chris any thoughts?)

When osis2mod hits verse Lam.6.1 it segment faults. I had seen this
segment fault before, but was unable to solve it as it is in the SWORD
engine not in osis2mod (might be that osis2mod calls the SWORD engine
incorrectly.) I may need help here to solve the problem in osis2mod.

The reason that it stops at Lam 3:22 in the module is that the program
did not close normally and not all that was written by osis2mod was
committed to disk.

The proper behavior of osis2mod would to have appended chapters 6 to 53
to the last verse of chapter 5 and give robust diagnostics that it was
doing that.

Hi DM,

It may be the case, but as someone focusing on /using/ software rather than
getting dragged 'kicking and screaming' into /compiling/ C++ code, I'd be
grateful if someone could ensure that the latest bug fixes for SWORD
utilities are made available for Windows users.

cf. The most recent build listed in
http://crosswire.org/ftpmirror/pub/sword/utils/win32/
is 22-Oct-2010

Hi DM,

53 - 5 = 48. There are 48 chapters in Ezekiel.

Looks as if Paal's text source has no book division for Ezekiel. That would
explain the arithmetic.
