Who are the best active middle distance (800,1500) coaches in the US and
why?

Just wanted to address the flip side of the running song thread. Who could forget

El Guerrouj: More doping deaths to come

Lance is most certainly dirty. The whole sport of cycling is. Lance was
dirty before cancer and is dirty now. It's simply a part of the sport.
Africans, Germans, Russians, Chinese, Americans, no one is clean. From
things I've read and from things I've heard I believe most of the top
runners
I don't want to make a list for fear of slighting other coaches, but I do
want to cast of vote for Dr. James Li of Washington State University.
Li's most obvious success has been developing Bernard Lagat into one of the
world's greatest milers. Li recruited Lagat to WSU and continues to coach
based on U.S. results of late in the majors, the cynical answer would be that the
answer is, D, none of the above!

Has anyone seen Gwen Torrence around lately and knows what's going on? I
think it's pretty obvious that she's done with track, but does anyone know
how she's doing in general. Who on this board is kind of close to her or
sees her from time to time?
Some really notable stuff there. In addition to multiple PRs and NRs, note the fastest
mark for place ever in 6 through 9.

Great analysis! A little unfair to ElG to use the championship rabbit
excuse as his winning strategy. After all in a rabbited race, anyone can use
the services of the said rabbit. If all the runners know that ElG is the man
to beat, and they use the rabbit as much as he does, I dont see

Walt, as Bob said, why should El G be disqualified as everyone in that race
had the benefit of Kaouch, not just El G. The people who complain that it
is unfair, IMHO, are those that are jealous because they can't hang in a
fast race. El G is the best out there and he wins by running his

If you want to train to run good times over 1500 -1m but never win major
races do the following.
1. Do lots of long slow distance training.160km a week plus.
2. Race almost all year in anything similar to your event. Juxst think maybe
8 weeks ahead at any time. XC, Indoor , Track , Road
Radcliffe, in the meanwhile is also developing into the world's greatest
whiner in atheletics.
Yegorova in particualer, or drug taking in general, had nothing to do with
Paula's failure to medal in the 10,000 M in Sydney or last week, and
perhaps she should take a year off - not the track as
