At one time I had problems with eighth inch plugs as opposed to 3.5mm
plugs. The 3.5mm are slightly larger and fit the jacks better. I
haven't seen this problem for a long time though. Possibley you have
an old pair of earphones with the eighth inch plug instead of the the
3.5mm plug.

If it goes too far in and cuts off the sound, that means you have a mono
plug plugged into a stereo jack, most likely. Pam.

Hi Robin,
I've had the same problem hooking my IPhone headphone jack to a set of
external speakers, and I solved the problem by plugging a audio extension
cord into the IPhone jack and then plugging the speakers into it.
The simple fact is that not all plugs fit the same.
