Re: WE and Office 2016

2018-01-24 Thread Carol and Roger via Talk

Hi Steve,

I have been playing around with Word and labels with no success. One
thing I did notice is that WE would not speak when I tried to paste text
into the box. I put an address in WordPad and copied it to the
clipboard and tried to paste it into the box. It would not speeak. The
box also said nothing when trying to navigate it. It would seem to me
that if the text did not paste, the box should have said blank as I
moved around in it. I think I will try contacting Microsoft to let them
see if they can help me. I will let you know what they say.

Carol,

I wonder if this is part of the old Microsoft bug that affected envelope
addressing for years. That was fixed in Word 2016, though. Would you give
exact steps to get where you are getting? I'd like to figure out if this is
a Microsoft bug.

As a work-around, you might be able to type the address in a document and
then select it. Microsoft might populate the "to" field with the selected
address, although you might not be able to determine that until you print
the label if this is left over from the old bug. This was the case with the
envelope addressing dialog. You probably would not need to copy and paste,
it happens automatically if this works similarly. Don't get me wrong, you
shouldn't have to do it this way, it should work and we need to figure out
why it isn't working, whether it is Window-Eyes or a Microsoft bug.

Steve Jacobson

Hello,

I need to print a label. I can go to the settings and choose my wanted
label. I can choose which label prints and where it is on the page.
The problem is that I can not get WE to read the information in the to
label box. It simply does not speak and the box does not show up with
the mouse keys. The mouse keys report everything else I need except for
the address. Are there settings I need to change in Window-Eyes for
Word 2016? Thanks.

you have to define it yourself in the jaws desktop icon.
open a context menu on the icon, choose properties. then go to the shortcut
edit box and use j. this will define the control alt j key for the shortcut.
keep in mind though., that you will have to define different key combonations
for each version of jaws you have installed.

they can not all use the same shortcut keys.
window eyes is the same way.

Re: Firefox 58.0 release overview

2018-01-24 Thread David via Talk
Thanks for the link.

Yes, they sure are aware of the screen reader issues - and have been so
ever since they started the whole 57+ cycle. What they don't tell in the
article you linked, is why they did not just fix it right away, when
they were to introduce version 58. Sounds somehow like the Microsoft
thing, where they took a pretty long time to have anything for a fix, in
the Edge browser issue. Being aware of a thing, does not automate you
will ever have a fix of it.

Well, let us keep positive. They are aware of the issues, and hope to
fix them. Now, what kind of issues is it they will fix? NVDA, and I
don't know Jaws, have had certain issues with modern versions of
Firefox. But they have still been able to read

SOMETHING

off the screen. WinEyes users, on the other hand, have been able to read
absolutely

     nothing

from the screen produced by version 57+. Even when we seemed to have
found a workaround, it took them less than a week to break even that
one, with a new "update". So when comes to them fixing things in a way
that WinEyes users again can go back to the latest ordinary version of
Firefox, I would not keep my breath - really. Chances are high, the
issues they are going to fix, will be the ones experienced by NVDA and Jaws.

For WinEyes users, currently you have to use the ESR version of the
Firefox - which most currently is at version 52.6. It updated here
yesterday, and still runs nicely with the screen reader. Let's just
hope, they don't break anything there, before they have fixed everything
in the main version.

Again, I do intend no negativity here, but wanted to keep things in
perspective.

2018-01-24 Thread Carol and Roger via Talk

Are there settings I need to change in Window-Eyes for
Word 2016? Thanks.

RE: WE and Office 2016

2018-01-24 Thread Steve Jacobson via Talk

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

Re: WE and Office 2016

2018-01-24 Thread Carol and Roger via Talk

Hi Steve,

I treated making labels the same as I would have in Word 2007. I pasted
the address I needed to make the label for into the open word document.
I then put the person's name in the line above the address. I then
selected all and copied it to the clipboard.

Next, I pressed alt-m, l to open the mailings and label group. Normally,
the address shows up in the address box. It was not there, so I pasted
it in. It was still not readable.

I then went to options and made sure the correct label format was
selected and entered on OK, in case there was a problem with the label
size. The label was the correct one. The information was still not in
the address box. I erased the data from the address box and then went
back to the Word document where I copied the information again and went
back to the labels settings again. The information did not appear in
the box automatically, so I pressed ctrl-shift-w to read the screen
contents. The information was not there, either. I pasted it into the
box again and pressed ctrl-shift-w again and the data still did not
appear. This time, I printed it out anyway. The label printed, but was
not spoken.
