Consistent problem with combo box on bank site
Greetings all. Hope that the new corporate will fix the below when Window-eyes version 9.5 or 10 comes out? My online banking site uses a combo box from within which to select a specific payee. Re: sites not shown as links
Linette, I think the problem here is that no one has clarified exactly what you're experiencing. When you open a message with a link you can't access do you hear the word "link" before or after it? I forget which is the default. If you can you should be able to tab or L/Shift-L to it and press enter because you're in browse mode when viewing messages but not when replying or writing. And turning on browse mode when replying or writing only causes more problems. So if you're in browse mode and "link" is not voiced then something is up with the link and you have to copy it manually. Just arrow to the beginning, press F8, move to the end and make sure you arrow to the last character. Press F8 again and a dialog should pop up with a Copy text button already focused. Just press space bar and the link will be in your clipboard. Hth, Tom On 6/29/2016 3:30 PM, Linette Sukup via Talk wrote: Maybe I'm not understanding your message, but I can read the link. The author can assign descriptive text to the hyperlink so that the recipient sees a meaningful link name in the message or Web page. This is a good thing to do as it helps the user understand the link's purpose more clearly. For example, the link text could be "Click here to learn more about product ABC". The author could also use the web page address as the link's text. For example, the link text might be "http://productABC.com. Not a good practice but people still do it. You can activate the currently focused link by pressing Enter on it. If you want to copy the links address to your clipboard, you can do so, but the process depends on your email client. In Outlook, after focusing the link, you can open the context menu and select Copy Link or something similar. Hey Larry, Yes. Acrobat isn't exactly a walk in the park. I haven't even installed it on my new system. So I can't remember the exact key strokes. Paulette, If the web page element is an actual HTML hyperlink (anchor element with a valid href attribute), pressing Enter when focused on it will always activate the link. What you are describing sounds like a custom HTML element that was not designed to be keyboard accessible. What do you do when you find a web page element that is not operable with the keyboard and inaccessible? I would recommend you contact the web page author and tell them about the problem. More times than not, they don't know about accessibility and the needs of people using screen readers. So, you can help educate them. Tell them to unplug their mouse and try to activate the element. Re: Trouble with OCR on a .pdf file
Hello Tom, Oh well, I have a little egg on my face on this one I'm afraid. There is one file that indeed must be a scanned image, as in Chairman Gowdy's letter to Paul Ryan, because no matter how I tried to save or reproduce it, it was reported to be an empty file, but the others appear to be textual. Carol Smith was kind enough to convert the letter file for me. I went to the trouble of converting them all to text files, but I think I'm going to try to set up the reader so that I can explore the files that way. I need to find the accessibility features and see if that wont help a bit. I know they're there, I just have to locate them again. As you can see, I don't find myself reading too many .pdf files. At present, it seems that I am only set up to read one page at a time, and although I should be able to use the right and left arrow keys to move from page to page, it doesn't seem to be working that way for me. Of course, I really don't think I want to use the reader in that way for obvious reasons. I prefer to use arrows to move between characters and words like with any other reader. Maybe I'll break down and just get QRead and just avoid the whole mess. Anyway, thanks for looking into this matter for me. I'll try to be a bit more careful in my assessment of the situation next time. Take care, Larry On 6/29/2016 10:34 AM, Tom Kingston via Talk wrote: I'm not sure what file Larry is talking about. Re: AMD mmloaddrv.exe
Hi there! Just wondered how long you have had your AMD processor? I have had an AMD since laround mid 2012 and have experienced little or no issues with it. I use IE, Google Chrome and occasionally FireFox. I have Windows 10 with 4 GB of ram and a 1 TB hard drive. Just wondered what your set up was and why you might be experiencing these issues? Feel free to write me off list at wohlg...@gmail.com if you have any other questions. Good Luck! And Have A Great Day! de . This happens even before the entire address can be typed in. A number of sites have been attemptted but all seem to fail in a similar manner. NVDA has been tried with Chrome but does not seem to suffer in the same manner. Anyone else having this problem and found a solution? RE: Trouble with OCR on a .pdf file
To Karyn's point, I've had better luck using VirtualView to OCR single pages of PDF files. RE: sites not shown as links
Sorry Linette, I don't use Thunderbird. Maybe others on the list can provide the exact steps on how to copy an embedded link from a message. With that said, if you navigate to the link and open the context menu, you should be able to find a command that relates to copying the link. Good luck.
