Hello Tom,

Oh well, I have a little egg on my face on this one I'm afraid. There is one file that indeed must be a scanned image, as in Chairman Gowdy's letter to Paul Ryan, because no matter how I tried to save or reproduce it, it was reported to be an empty file, but the others appear to be textual. Carol Smith was kind enough to convert the letter file for me.

I went to the trouble of converting them all to text files, but I think I'm going to try to set up the reader so that I can explore the files that way. I need to find the accessibility features and see if that wont help a bit. I know they're there, I just have to locate them again.

As you can see, I don't find myself reading too many .pdf files.

At present, it seems that I am only set up to read one page at a time, and although I should be able to use the right and left arrow keys to move from page to page, it doesn't seem to be working that way for me. Of course, I really don't think I want to use the reader in that way for obvious reasons. I prefer to use arrows to move between characters and words like with any other reader. Maybe I'll break down and just get QRead and just avoid the whole mess.

Anyway, thanks for looking into this matter for me. I'll try to be a bit more careful in my assessment of the situation next time.

Take care,

Larry

I'm not sure what file Larry is talking about. But I found this page:
http://benghazi.house.gov/NewInfo
entitled "Select Committee on Benghazi Releases Proposed Report".
The report is broken up into several PDF files section by section.
I downloaded a couple of them, unblocked them, and they read fine in
QRead. So they're not scanned images.

Hth,
Tom

Mark and all,

The file he wants to convert is a rather large file and I'll bet is a
scanned image as well. I've heard that House report is 800 pages and no
that's not a typo.

Thanks.

There might not be anything you can do to solve this issue on your end.
Sounds like you are performing the correct steps. I would recommend
sending
the file to support so they can investigate this issue further.
Best,
Marc

Hello,

And I hope someone can give me some help with this one.

I am trying to convert a .pdf file from today's House Report on
Benghazi using VirtualView, but when I do, it will indicate that there
15 pages, then the recognition will begin, and it will only process up
to page 6, but then it poops out, with no evidence of having saved the
file in any form.

I am using Windows 10 and WE 9.4 for Office. I have never had any luck
converting .pdf files in the past, but surely there has to be a way to
get this done.

Any help with this one would be greatly appreciated,

Larry
