Hi listers,
Often when I go to a webpage it appears that I get a “security” blocking
from GWMicro. I can read the top of the page and then the GWMicro message
appears. If I hit the spacebar or perhaps another key it seems to go away.
Has anybody else had any experiences like this? What can be done to prevent
this happening.

I currently use Becky, and it works, but it has its quirks.

I used Eudora a very long time, but grew tired of jumping through the
Hoops needed to make it work in the next version of MS Windows. And
the 7.1 version has a few Bugs that never were fixed before the Company
retired Eudora.

Windows Live Mail is used by some, but Microsoft has just said that
Windows Live Mail will no longer be supported,. I would still use it,
if WLM is quick and simple to use.

The Email program that comes in Win 10 is an alternative to Windows Live
Mail. I have not looked at it yet, but have listened to a video about
it. Kind of a functional no fancy features kind of program. I might
check it out, providing it works well enough with Window Eyes.

And then there is Thunderbird. I used Thunderbird about four years ago.
Had it at work and I never liked it much, especially the Spell Checker.
I like getting a list of word possibilities, and if I recall,
Thunderbird doesn't give much in the way of a list.

However, several updates have come and gone since I used it, and so if
any here use Thunderbird and love it. Tell me why you love it.
Also The Window Eyes Support for Thunderbird might be better today than
in the past. I like a program where the Screen Reader allows me to read
the screens well. Moving around with the Tab key doesn't take me into
areas the Screen Reader doesn't read etc.

And if there are any Email programs I haven't mentioned, and you use
them, and like them, would you tell me about them as well?

Thanks for any opinions.

Yes, it does seem as if those who sell products to earn a living, cannot
resist the temptation to change it, and changing it sometimes is for the
better, but many times, the changes is one or two steps backwards.

Marketing puts pressure on Development to come up with something NEw NEW

Most people that use a computer, are not Computer Geeks. They use the

and when Microsoft, or who ever comes out with their latest offering,
people are forced to re=learn what they had already learned in the

them to look at the latest edition and wonder where they start, because
the new edition is so different.

Now it takes three steps to do what once took two, or even one.

In the case of Screen Readers, now our Readers read even less of the

this is what I mean by going backwards.

I have no solution, as it seems that Change is the best way to gain

any major changes are not welcome, unless those changes streamline the

I'd like to add a few tidbits to this most fascinating thread.

In addition to the Windows screen readers which were mentioned,
Synthavoice's Window Bridge came out sometime in 1992, if my memory is
correct. While I have not used that screen reader, another one that
 many
have forgotten is Windows Master, which was produced by Blazie
Engineering for Windows 3.1. I began working for Blazie Engineering in
May of 1991 and, at that time, they had a DOS screen reader called
Speaksys. Speaksys cost $150 and only supported the Braille 'n Speak as
a synthesizer. However, it was unique in that it also allowed the
 Bns to
be used for Braille input to a PC and I believe it even supported Grade
2 input. Eventually, the screen reader was enhanced with new
 features to
try and bring it in line with other DOS screen readers at that time.
 Its
name was changed to PCMaster and its price was raised to $395.
Eventually, a talented programmer named Daehee Lee was hired to write a
Windows version of this screen reader, which was called Windows Master.
It also used a Bns for output (and I think input) and supported the
 SSIL
library of synthesizers as well. I believe Windows Master came out in
the summer of 1992 and may well have been the third or fourth Windows
screen reader at that time, although I'm certainly willing to be
corrected if this is incorrect. Actually, I vaguely remember hearing
about what I think was the first Windows screen reader before Window
Bridge, although its name now escapes me and I don't think it lasted
 more than a few years.

This thread reminds me of a blog post from Chris Hoffstader (sp) who
talked about the importance of those of us who have memories of this

established a wiki for that purpose but my recent searches aren't
 locating it.

RE: Email programs, Your Choice?

2017-01-12 Thread Rod Hutton via Talk
Hi Dave,

I subscribe to Office 365, and unless Outlook becomes so unusable that I have
to change to something else, it will be the email client I use for ever. Over
the past year or so, I've seen it improve steadily in terms of accessibility.

Subject: Email programs, Your Choice?

Hello,

For those of you who have used more than one Email program, if you have
an opinion as to which program you like the best, would you share that
opinion?

Grumpy Dave

Hi.
The exact same thing happened to me and I had to go to the website to
re-install them. I don't think it's a system problem. My placecards stopped
working, also and I can't redo them. Somebody else on this list had the same
ap problem.

Re: window eyes.

2017-01-12 Thread Tom Kingston via Talk

You have a few options.
1. All of the default WEPM app installation files are in C:\Program
Files\GW micro\Window-Eyes.

Make sure you install GwToolkit first if it's not installed.
2. Open the Window-Eyes control panel.
Alt F File. E Explore profile folder.
Backspace out of the folder and rename it. I'd also copy and paste the
folder to another location as a backup if there's anything you want to save.

Reload Window-Eyes and it will create a new default profile folder.
You might want to close Window-Eyes and run NVDA or Narrator before
renaming the default folder.

3. Backup your profile folder and then reinstall the latest upgrade file.

Hth,
Tom

Yes, it does seem as if those who sell products to earn a living, cannot
resist the temptation to change it, and changing it sometimes is for the
better, but many times, the changes is one or two steps backwards.

Marketing puts pressure on Development to come up with something NEw NEW
NEW, and so Development does, and Marketing is Happy, but is the end
user always happy?

Most people that use a computer, are not Computer Geeks. They use the
computer, to do their jobs, or to do their household duties, Bill paying
etc.

and when Microsoft, or who ever comes out with their latest offering,
people are forced to re=learn what they had already learned in the
earlier edition of the same software.

I talk with people all over the country, and I do this on my job. And
computers is what we talk about. Time and time again, people have told
me, they do not like Big Big changes. Changes big enough to require
them to look at the latest edition and wonder where they start, because
the new edition is so different.

Now it takes three steps to do what once took two, or even one.

In the case of Screen Readers, now our Readers read even less of the
program than it did before.

this is what I mean by going backwards.

I have no solution, as it seems that Change is the best way to gain
new customers but once these customers are familiar with the program,
any major changes are not welcome, unless those changes streamline the
work the program does for the user.

One Step forward and Two Steps back?

this is not Progress, just in case anyone is confused.

Re: Email programs, Your Choice?

2017-01-12 Thread Charles Adkins via Talk
To be honest with you, I've become so frustrated with working to make email
programs work I've gone to gmail and Exchange work account on the web using
desktop, and Iphone email and outlook program on my phone. Yes, I'll say it, I
haven't been happy with email on computer since the demise of that grand old
favorite Outlook Express. It worked, could read everything, never seemed to
change and was very deppendable. Having said that, my grandfather missed his
old Nash for a long time; things change and life moves on. Its just that
sometimes it seems that they just can't resist the tempation to break something
that already works.

Re: Email programs, Your Choice?

2017-01-12 Thread Kevin Huber via Talk
Hi Dave:

Right now, I use Windows Live Mail. I used to use it, but I switched
to Outlook 2013 fora while. The problem was that I could not send
messages, I could only read incoming messages, and noone could figure
out the problem so I used the website of our local provider but it was
too frustrating to navigate so I went back to WLM. Even if it will no
longer be supported, I will still use it, at least for the time being.
I tried Thunderbird a few years ago, but I found it to be two chatty
and Their seems to be a lot of complants about it on this list.

Re: the triple talk USB or the dectalk USB

2017-01-12 Thread Russ Kiehne via Talk
You are right, I talked to Access Solutions and they told me it's no problem
using the TripleTalk without a battery.

There shouldn't be any reason why you can't take the battery out of your
tripple talk. I have a dec-talk express whose battery has been dead for a
long time. If it got unpluged, it would make this motorboating noise.
Everybody said you had to have a battery in there. Well, I sent mine to get
worked on, and it no longer has a battery in it, and it works just fine.
Pam.

The battery in my tripple talk will run the synthesizer for a little
while, but then, after no power from the usb connection for about 4 or
so hours, it begins to make noise! :)
If our power goes off during the night, I get a rude awakening from my
wife, I guarantee!
Tempting to take out the battery because who knows whether or not it may
leak? or corrode? causing other issues.

because turning it off with a power strip only turns off the battery
charger.

the battery would stay on until it completely drains.

Why wouldn't the battery turn off if you turned everything off with the
power strip? Pam.

I also use a power strip to turn off all the equipment but the Double
Talk had a hard wired builtin battery whichneeded to be turned off at
the unit. This, over time, stuffed it up.

Email programs, Your Choice?

2017-01-12 Thread Dave via Talk
Hello,

For those of you who have used more than one Email program, if you have
an opinion as to which program you like the best, would you share that
opinion?

Grumpy Dave

I've taken braille lites to Batteries plus, also. But my point is, if you
never use it on battery, you don't even need to have one in the trippletalk
or dec-talk. Pam.

hmmm, take it to batteries plus and have them replace it for you with
a new one. i have a braille lite that i have done this too several
times in order to keep using the device. i now have to look for a
replacement backup lithium battery and holder so i can replace this
battery easier.
