RE: Observations

2018-04-25 Thread Thomas N. Chan via Talk
That’s where the problem with jaws as far as I am concern, jaws can't read
those message like WE does.
Even if you open the conversation and move down and see who posted in the same
subject, jaws don't read those preview messages despite window-eyes read them.
Even NVDA read those preview messages
Nothing to do with preview pane if you have use outlook as long as I do.

The only way I survive any of these lists is by using the conversation view in
Outlook. I have each group list automatically go into a respective folder and
then have the message grouped by conversation thread with the subject line read

It is interesting that you say Window-eyes is more intuitive. Of

JAWS users say that JAWS is more intuitive than Woindow-eyes, so the

JAWS. I plan to keep using WE as long as I can and I'm going to install JAWS
and see if I can learn it while still using WE.

  Hi Charles:

It is interesting that you say Window-eyes is more intuitive. Of
course, I tend to agree with you after Window-eyes has been my main
screen reader for fifteen years, but I have heard several longtime
JAWS users say that JAWS is more intuitive than Woindow-eyes, so the
word intuiitive is a relative term I guess.

Fw: Q Read Observations

2016-07-02 Thread Tom Fairhurst via Talk
I have fixed things. I refreshed my accessibility libraries and rebooted.
Read to End works now, and Control=Shift+R works just fine. I haven't tried
having Q Read read the PDF, but it really doesn't matter so much.

I do have Window-Eyes set up to read the entire page globaly. I also notice
that Read-To-End doesn’t work. I changed it from the default hotkey to
Control+Shift+Enter, and it still does nothing. The only way I get any
reading is with Control+Shift+S of if I have Q Read actually speak it. While
I don’t mind the voice, I only have one option: Anna English. I guess there
is no way to add voices. Don’t get me wrong, I can read documents, but it
seems harder than it should be.When I use Control_Shift+S to read the
screen, it doesn’t start reading at the cursor, but rather, I guess, at the
top of the screen or the top of text displayed.

I am using Q read with Window-Eyes 9.4, on a Windows 7 6-bit Pro PC. I have
noticed that when I read a PDF using Window-Eyes, that the document reads
only so far and stops. I must push the PGDN key to move forward. Then I
press Control+Shift+S to read further. These blocks of text I read do not
correspond with the pages in the PDF document. I realize this may be a PDF
issue. When I have Q Read read the document, the speech is very choppy,
especially if I have the rate set too high, for example, 60. Inno wayare
these show stoppers, but any help would be appreciated.

Re: Q Read Observations

2016-07-02 Thread Edward Green via Talk
Hi Tom,

I suspect Window-Eyes may be reading the first 24 lines of the PDF, as it does
when content displayed in browse mode (such as webpages) loads. You may be
able to change this in the verbosity settings so that it reads the entire
document, but am away from my PC at the moment so am unable to check.

Cheers,

Ed

of more than one line. But 5900 are the last four digits I mainly

Hi. The information I'm about to pass along to the list members are not
complaints. They are observations.

I reserved my copies of Windows 10 to install on my Dell Xps-8500 desktop
computer running Windows 8.1, and for my Dell Xps-501-L laptop running
Windows 7 home 64 bit. On Sunday morning I heard Window-eyes 9.2 begin
to

speak as if something was being installed on my desktop computer, but
didn't
pay close attention, and I didn't think much of it. Yesterday I happened
to
check Windows updates and found at least a dozen download failed updates
of
Windows 10 home upgrade. With the help of the Microsoft accessibility
answer desk I was able to download and install Windows 10. I am now
hearing
what sounds like the Window-eyes startup sound twice. The sound is also
very distorted, so I have to turn the sound bars volume down a bit.

Later yesterday I had to have the Microsoft Accessibility answer desk
representative help me get Windows 10 downloaded so I could install it
for

a
similar issue. There were only two failed updates and I didn't hear
Window-eyes speak when the updates were being downloaded. The
Window-eyes

sound is also distorted. I tried to redownload and run the Window-eyes
9.2
upgrade and install it, but the progress reached 80 percent and generated
a
Windows error I believe. I now cannot find my downloads folder after
upgrading the Windows 7 computer to Windows 10. I tried searching for
downloads and nothing would come up. How do I find my downloads folder
Thanks. ?

On Sunday morning I heard Window-eyes 9.2
 begin to
speak as if something was being installed on my desktop computer, but
 didn't
pay close attention, and I didn't think much of it. Yesterday I
 happened to
check Windows updates and found at least a dozen download failed
 updates of
Windows 10 home upgrade. With the help of the Microsoft accessibility
answer desk I was able to download and install Windows 10. I am now
 hearing
what sounds like the Window-eyes startup sound twice. The sound is also
very distorted, so I have to turn the sound bars volume down a bit.

Later yesterday I had to have the Microsoft Accessibility answer desk
representative help me get Windows 10 downloaded so I could install it
 for a
similar issue. There were only two failed updates and I didn't hear
Window-eyes speak when the updates were being downloaded. The
 Window-eyes
sound is also distorted. I tried to redownload and run the
 Window-eyes 9.2
upgrade and install it, but the progress reached 80 percent and
 generated a
Windows error I believe. I now cannot find my downloads folder after
upgrading the Windows 7 computer to Windows 10. I tried searching for
downloads and nothing would come up. How do I find my downloads folder
 Thanks. ?

Hi,
If you do not have a password at login and go straight to the desktop you'll
hear the Window-eyes start up sound twice. This is normal. Window-eyes is
loading to read the login prompt, it shuts down and starts again after the
login goes away.

except you just hear the startup sound and then the other sound. Pam.

more so than 9.0 was. For whatever reason right in the middle of
surfing a web page or reading an email in Thunderbird, 9.0 would just
go completely silent. no error message was displayed on the screen,
it just closed, as if the program was never opened to begin with.
Pressing the usual hot key alt control w always brought it back so
that was a good thing, but i'm very happy that problem is gone. I
noticed it once or twice when I first installed 9.1 but after
rebooting the machine that little problem appears to have solved itself.

Also, in internet explorer 11, window-eyes still takes a few seconds
to load a web page. it's as ifWindow-eyes hangs for about 15 to 30
seconds, but then if I'm patient enough, it usually comes back. I did
have a few issues where the 9.0 version would never recover from this
issue and the machine would completely lock up, forcing a reboot to
get things on track. Now, it does take a few seconds longer to start
speaking a web page, but it's a whole hell of a lot more reliable, so
lots of improovements there! it's also nice to be able to just copy
plane text to the clipboard. i would really like to have the
traditional copy and paste method back, but like i said before that
probably isn't possible with the way Window-eyes rhendors a web page
now. If it is possible to allow us to use the traditional method of
copying and pasting with the arrow keys instead of the f8 selection
method, let me encourage the AI Squared guys to offer that as an
option in the WE control panel, maybe something in the browse mode
section somewhere?
As far as Thunderbird goes,I'm having pretty good results, but
occasionally, i'm not able to read an email as I type it. I like to
read back what I wrote to hear what it sounds like, just to confirm
what I've said to avoid any spelling errors and such. In 9.0 and 9.1
when composing a new message or replying to one, Window-eyes will say
about blank when using the arrow keys after I've written something, so
I know text is there, but for whatever interesting reason, Window-eyes
isn't able to read it. The interesting part is there are times i can
read it back and other times I can't and there doesn't seem to be any
real rhyme or reason to it, which is really frustrating as I'd like to
give you guys some information so you can find a fix. Sometimes if I
close thunderbird and re-open it the problem will fix itself, but i
never know how many times I have to close and re-open it. I am using
the TB Enhance app, so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Firefox does seem to be a bit faster when loading web pages, but still
seems like it's a tad slower than internet explorer is. I tried
google Chrome yesterday, and was impressed with how accessible it is
now! I haven't quite found enough things I like it to make it my
default web browser, but it sure is nice to know I can have 3 web
browsers to choose from now. So, overall i'm pretty happy with 9.1.

Thanks guys!

In that case, have you customized your Thunderbird profile, such as by adding
any additional add-ons or behavior different from the defaults? Is this
something you can reproduce on demand, even after creating a new profile?

and re-open it. I am using the TB Enhance app, so I'm not sure if that has
 anything to do with it.

Firefox does seem to be a bit faster when loading web pages, but still
seems like it's a tad slower than internet explorer is. I tried google
Chrome yesterday, and was impressed with how accessible it is now! I
haven't quite found enough things I like it to make it my default web
browser, but it sure is nice to know I can have 3 web browsers to choose
from now. So, overall i'm pretty happy with 9.1.
 Thanks guys!

Hey folks

more so than 9.0 was.

In 9.0 and 9.1
when composing a new message or replying to one, Window-eyes will say
about blank when using the arrow keys after I've written something,
so I know text is there, but for whatever interesting reason,
Window-eyes isn't able to read it. The interesting part is there are
times i can read it back and other times I can't and there doesn't
seem to be any real rhyme or reason to it, which is really
frustrating as I'd like to give you guys some information so you can
find a fix. Sometimes if I close thunderbird and re-open it the
problem will fix itself, but i never know how many times I have to
close and re-open it. I am using the TB Enhance app, so I'm not sure

I must respectfuly disagree. I use Thunderbird as my primary email client and
am able to use it without any significant problems. With that said, I am using
the current version of Thunderbird under Windows 8.1. Which TB are you using,
and under which operating system?
