Re: [Talk-transit] importing new versions of data sources (was: Bus stops in North America from GTFS data)
Hi, On 10/06/10 21:28, john whelan wrote: If we are importing then we can pull in the stop_id for free. Having it available means an application can then make use of it or a bot can verify the values in the other fields more easily. In database terms having a value that is dataset unique is important. I just wanted to emphasize how important I think that is. When importing stops into OSM, I think it's vital to include: * some value that uniquely identifies the data source, world-wide (in the UK this was tagged as 'source=naptan_import' although I may have preferred 'uknaptan'); I don't think it's necessary to identify the version of the data source; * any unique stop ID that exists in the source data; it shouldn't matter how this gets tagged in OSM, as long as it's done in the same way for all data from a particular dataset. In the UK I think 'naptan:AtcoCode=*' is being used for any data from that source. If there is no nation-wide numbering scheme for stops, make sure to uniquely identify the dataset you're using (eg. the country, county and/or operator it relates to) and import whatever unique ID you can. This is important because, at a later time we'll likely want to merge changes in from new versions of the source data -- and perhaps even merge changes in OSM back to the data source, too. As long as we have those two things imported, we can handle new versions of the dataset like this: * for each item in the new version of the dataset: ** compare with corresponding record in the old version of the dataset ** if different: *** search OSM nodes for 'source=*' tag corresponding with this dataset AND unique ID (eg. 'naptan:AtcoCode=*') matching this record *** if found, AND changed data fields (eg. lat/lon) in OSM still match those in the old dataset: update OSM node with the new data (eg. lat/lon) *** otherwise, flag this as a conflict to resolve manually, or as a new stop to import This process could be very problematic to automate if no dataset name or unique IDs were imported into OSM; there would be a *lot* of guesswork (and probably a lot of mistakes) and/or updating by hand otherwise. Interesting... I just noticed that the link road's general alignment matches that of Republic Avenue way to the east. http://osm.org/go/4zhWO8pr This goes straight to the Batasan if you follow the general alignment. I remember that in the original city plan for Quezon City, Republic Avenue is a planned major road connecting Caloocan, Novaliches, and the Batasan Complex. I happen to know a chap who has quite a lot of aerial imagery of Norfolk villages. Because he publishes the images, I cannot release the images to the public or to other mappers, but I can use them myself to generate mapping data. Some of the uses I have in mind is to map landuse in villages and missing roads, for villages where most of the roads have already been gps-mapped, giving lots of known points to perform the rectification from. Now, the images are taken at quite a low angle, so I'll need to recify them using software, ideally some sort of orthorecification thing in JOSM, if such is availiable. The tranform will be a basic trapezoid shape, but with a bottom probably half as long as the top (so the image taken at 45 degrees) possibly with slightly bowed sides for any barrel distorion in the lens. Obviously this will only work from items on the flat plane, but handily that pretty much describes norfolk. Does anyone have experience of this, who could point me in the direction of the appropriate JOSM plugin, or external software? I have Linux (Gentoo) and Windows XP on systems used for mapping. Obviously, nearby Princes Highway is the most major road: trunk. Is North Road trunk or primary? Looks like it's been designated trunk. Ok. Stepping down, Glen Huntly Rd would be the next most major road. It's not a useful way to get anywhere, because it's so full of shopping strips, and hence traffic, but it's major, and runs all the way from Glen Huntly to the beach. Primary? Secondary? There's not much to distinguish it from the other east-west roads: Glen Eira, Balaclava, Inkerman, except it has trams. Next level down, Neerim Rd and Grange Rd take a lot of traffic, but they don't really connect anything in particular. Secondary? Booran Rd could be similar. And then finally you end up with Kambrook Rd and Normanby Rd, which seem more like high quality back streets than major roads. Motorways are pretty obvious, although Liz has some ideas here about what constitutes a motorway with respect to some rural areas that are dual carriage way but have directly connected side roads, some even crossing over both directions of traffic flow, in her opinion this makes them trunks rather than motorway. Or do we use road planning oganisations that label a road way as freeway, motorway, etc as being a motorway? So then what makes a trunk a trunk? dual carriage way? volume of traffic? Then onto primary, obviously they aren't as well constructed or have the highway speeds as high as trunk or motorways, but they still would have a relatively high flow of traffic. Then onto secondary, these are lower than primary, but as you point out most of these classifications are relative to the immediate vacinity, and to a lesser degree to the rest of the country or what others have become accustomed to on other maps. Finally tertiary, residential and unclassified, the latter of those 3 gets used differently in Europe than it does Australia and it'd be nice to make this a little less ambiguous by the use of highway=rural and highway=minor or something similar.

Re: [Talk-it] Problemi con immagini PCN
