Hi Debby,

I thought about creating a website, with the space being generously offered
by John Covici from this list.
But, then I thought, well, as long as my own app updates were made
available, and since App Central is still up and running, a public folder
would do the trick.
And so, as long as you remain a list member, you'll learn about the current
status of my apps, and you'll be able to get them.
Other app developers are welcome to take my lead and offer their own apps in
the same way.
This will do for the meantime, and, as for the future, we'll deal with that
as it unfolds. (smile)
You'll probably get to my post on this subject in due course, but here's the
link to my public folder, just in case you read your posts in a different
order:

Yes, I am as interested in Window-Eyes as ever, even with no further

have updates to apps and new ones. It would be nice to have these apps

Just getting to my email after an emergency.

I think that's a great idea Rod. It's a shame VFO claimed to support the
product at least through the website and list, and already they are
dropkicking us users. No real surprise there. We have to keep things in our
hands as much as possible.

Hi guys,

Although I forced to switch to jaws about two months ago both at home and at
work but especially at work I also often found myself in a situation where I
have to revert back to the venerable window-eyes because this Jaws does not
support well one of our company's custom made application. This application is
called Time Recording System (trs) and both WE and NVDA work pretty well with
it, but Jaws is difficult at best with this application.
Take care but I guess that now, nothing can revive the dead corpse of WE. So
better we move with the current trend swallow the shark!

Yes, it would be great for now, to have a way of distributing our

so don't expect all apps to be maintained.

Re: App updates

2017-09-07 Thread David via Talk
Rod,

Did you try sending your initial message, to the WE Scripting list? From
old, I know a number of users were subscribing there, but not here on
the list. So might be a thing to consider, to send a message to that
list, as it would hit more directly with those who used to develop and
maintain apps for WE.

The rest of you,

Yes, it would be great for now, to have a way of distributing our
updates to current apps. Or, even brand new apps. Yet, I want to remind
you, some of the app developers will already have left WE, more or less,
so don't expect all apps to be maintained.

Hi Olusegun,

Thank you for confirming this.

From what I have read about VFO they will have a very tight agreement with

the ex GW-Micro key partners and employees. I understand that competing
products are not their favoured option and VFO lawyers will do all they can
to prevent any deviation from their wishes.

If Doug etc. will have the energy to start again and potentially hit legal
buffers from VFO can only be left to their decision.

As far as my use of software over many years is concerned the demise of
Window-Eyes was the most dissapointing change that has occured.

This seems a strange concept for the USA as competition is usually the way
to improve productivity and reduce prices.

John, you are absolutely right! Sometimes, once a company has been bought
and sold, the previous owner(s) may not even be allowed to ever start
another business in the same market. It all depends on how the lawyers word
the signed agreement(s) and whether or not the signed document(s) is/are
acceptable to the seller(s).

It's possible that Doug may never again touch Window-Eyes, but, if he so
desires and has sufficient financial backing, he could CREATE A BRAND-NEW
accessible something and name it whatever he cares!

A case in point: After Arkenstone, developer of Openbook died, its previous
owner created Bookshare!

Law is a donkey, and it does a poor job of riding itself to town! Looks
good on paper, but a trillion loopholes for any person who cares to give it
a shake.

Sincerely,
Olusegun
Denver, Colorado

Hey Rod,

I'd definitely be interested in such a site. I plan to continue using WE as

Hi everyone,

I have updates for a couple of my apps, and even a new app or two, but VFO
is no longer accepting app submissions.
Is anyone still interested enough in Window-Eyes to wish for someone to set
up an independent website for the purpose of app updates?
I am trying to get a handle on who is still interested in receiving support
for Window-Eyes, and so please circulate this question to any Window-Eyes
users you know.

Sincere thanks,

Hi Rod,

As you can see, (or hear) I am about a day late in reading messages.
Yes, Having an app person around would be a good thing. I am still using
WE, but dabble a little in the shark tank. Mostly, after jaws crashes
or doesn't do what I want, I use WE until I must reset my pc again. I
am hoping this message gets to the list as yesterday, I could not send
anything, but could at least read. I have been really swamped with
messages for the past week. Take care.

RE: App updates

2017-09-06 Thread John Farley via Talk

Absolutely and if Window-Eyes comes back, I hope the backing and Doug will
be able to aggressively market it. Doug feels betrayed by AI Squared and

Hello Mark,

Clearly I have no idea of any undertakings that Doug might have made when he
left the employment of VFO. However, it would be usual business practice in
the UK for an undertaking not to take part in the development of any
competing products within a specified period after employment has been
terminated. I would doubt if such a period of time has elapsed yet. Note
that I do not know if such practice takes place in the USA.

There must be a reason why the previous key personnel of GW-Micro are not
seen on any lists any more.

I use it most all the time. The only time I switch to jaws is if I am
reading emails that come from yahoo groups. I am having that problem where
they don't track propperly. I got the window eyes people to reinstall it
for me and it fixed the problem. Every time they did it for me, it fixed
the problem. But when I installed it, or had my tech install it, the
problem came back. I had to have the computer reformatted, and when he did,
and installed it for me, the problem is back. When he installed it on my
laptop I bought, it also has the problem. Last time I called, I said I had
a problem with window eyes. They kept me waiting for about two hours, and
the guy they gave me was a jaws guy. Pam.

Subject: App updates

Hi everyone,

I have updates for a couple of my apps, and even a new app or two, but VFO
is no longer accepting app submissions.
Is anyone still interested enough in Window-Eyes to wish for someone to set
up an independent website for the purpose of app updates?
I am trying to get a handle on who is still interested in receiving support
for Window-Eyes, and so please circulate this question to any Window-Eyes
users you know.

Sincere thanks,

RE: App updates

2017-09-06 Thread John Farley via Talk

Rod Hutton

Aloha Rod,

Although I have converted to Jaws 18 I still prefer to use Window Eyes for
the present! I intend to use it until it is absolutely impractical for my
purposes. If you would, I would appreciate you sending whatever apps you
have to share and send them to me directly. You have done a terrific job in
the past so I pretty much know what to expect!

Aloha,

For anybody who wants it, there is also an app called
install packages
which is version 5.2.
This app lets you choose to see all apps, app updates only, new apps, or
both which is new and updated apps.
Which ever choice you use, you can go through the list and install or skip

c:\apps

I personally prefer this app for getting all of my app updates. Try it out

Re: App updates

2017-04-20 Thread Carol and Roger via Talk
Love this app! I have totally disabled AppGet because it kept trying to
run when I would type the occasional letter "g" and I couldn't find what
I wanted with all of the categories. When you know the name of an app,
the search box worked fine, but if the name was not known, it made it
difficult to find things. The Install Packages App works great and the
apps are all in a list that is alphabetical.

skip apps. You can even choose to download the entire bunch of app

I personally prefer this app for getting all of my app updates. Try it

Re: App updates

2017-04-19 Thread David via Talk
Not so. I tried it, and the only app that comes up as outdated, is the
Hourly Chime. Once that single app was updated, no more outdated apps.
So how come the initial poster told us he had something like 20 updates?
Something on his computer.

and yes, I did exactly use the AppGet feature and the Outdated view.

Have tried it several times, and it reports no outdated apps. Even if
this is first attempt in about a month. So just wondering the whole thing.

Actually, you can open the WE control panel, Alt-A Apps, App management,
Add or remove apps.

RE: App updates

2017-04-17 Thread Rod Hutton via Talk
Hi Paulette,

Actually, this is not true. Today's updates, and I've counted 37 in all,
change the release date of each app to today, April 17, 2017, and change the
author's name to AI Squared from GW Micro.
Use AppGet or go to App Central, and check out the details for one of your
installed apps, to see what I mean.
Note, however, that the version numbers for most of the apps has not changed,
and so you won't be prompted to update.
One of the developer apps, Immed, has had a version number change, but I doubt
whether there's been any functional improvement; at least, none is described in
the package preview.
So, in short, this is simply house-keeping by AI Squared/VFO.
I only learned about these updates because I follow AI Squared on Twitter, and,
each time an app update occurs, it is tweeted.

All the best,

Rod
