Guten Tag The Bat! Beta,

something happens, what i think could normally not happen:

I click on a folder and select first Message, but Preview
tells me there is no Message selected. Additional on the
left there is an active Tab, but not on the right...

Re: SpellCheck Not working for me?

2008-01-15 Thread MAU
Hello Kyle,

I have been trying to get spellcheck to work on newly created emails
but nothing seems to work. I have Office 2007 installed and from what
I have been able to glean from group talk, the dictionary from Office
is being used. However, no amount of fiddling brings no joy for
spellcheck. My deliberat mis spelled words are simply ignored. I have
turned on/off the options in the Spell Checker tool bar and nothing
seems to make any difference. Can someone shed some light on what may
be wrong here. Is there something I have to invoke to get spell check
 to work??

As you may know TB can use two different spell checker engines, SSCE and
CSAPI. SSCE is the one used with the dictionaries that come with TB in
the Intpack and CSAPI for the Office 97 ones.

SCCE was broken in this alpha series and fixed in 4.0.0.9, you need to
install (copy to TheBat! directory) the SSCE5532.dll that was included
in in the .rar file. Did you do that?

To use the CSAPI engine with one your Office 97 dictionaries, you have
to select the language from the ones listed below the bar in the
languages menu. See attached PNG, I'm using British English from Office.

Ok...then!!! I just copied the SSCE5532 file to the install directory,

copying the bat exe file over.

Proposal for a Basic/Full menus option

2008-01-15 Thread MAU
Hello all,

As some of you may recall, about two years ago I logged a Wish List item
for the implementation of a Basic/Full menus option. It is not something
that I personally need but I think it would be useful. Specially for new
users who, at first sight if they look at the menus, may be 'frightened'
by the number of options available. You can see the wish list item here:

https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=5476

If you look at the recently added notes, the issue has been assigned to
Valerye Bostan and he is looking into it for possible implementation.
But he has asked for our help and, as you can see, I have volunteered to
start some discussions on this list.

My idea is that this option can perhaps be easily implemented by the use
of two different 'tbuser.def' files: one for Basic menus where many
options are hidden (just hidden, not removed or disabled) and one for
Full menus where no options are hidden. Of course, Valerye knows much
better than me what it will take to implement such option and if it is
as easy as I think, or not.

What is very clear to me is that, no matter how the option is
implemented, it should be very clear and apparent for new users that
this option is available. For this, my suggestion would be to include a
text button in the Configuration Toolbar as in attached PNGs. I think
that a 'text button' with no icon highlights more clearly.

My idea about two tbuser.def files is so, in this way, as a user
becomes more proficient with TB (and with Customiser) he may opt to 'add
options' to his Basic menus (by un-hiding them) or to 'remove options'
from the Full version.

So, what I will do now as time permits, is to start a new thread for each
menu (at least the main ones) with an snapshot of how I think its 'basic
version' should look like. You can then compare with your own full
version and comment on it. This is what Valerye would like from us.

Why a new thread for each menu?
- To avoid mixing apples and oranges.
- Because of the size limitation for attachments in the list.

So, stay tuned and please comment.

TIA.

Re: Basic/Full menus: the Account menu

2008-01-15 Thread MAU
Hello Rick,

Careful here. We have already said that one thing I use moderately
shouldn't be in the basic menu (redirecting - and I agree) We have to
think like new users and put our personal preferences aside.

I agree. I'm not talking about any personal preferences. My own
Customised personal menus are quite different from what I am suggesting
for Basic and also different from what standard Full menus are.

The new user wants to get up and running and do a few basic things but
even here we must be careful. The average user of the Bat is not a
 novice email user.

Again agree. But the idea (my idea) of Basic menus is actually a
marketing trick to target novice users, even OE users, who just want
to set up their account and be able to send and receive email.

Someone should also rewrite the Help file so it indicates all the
features that are NOT showing. That help file needs to be totally gone
 through anyway :)

That wouldn't hurt. But we all know what happens with Help files, they
are usually 'behind' and incomplete. And in many cases people don't even
look at them as, otherwise, the acronym RTFM would have not been
'invented' ;-)

That is why in my first message about Basic/Full menus I suggested a
TEXT button in Configuration so it will (hopefully) call the attention
of the user hoping that (s)he will be curious enough to click on it and
take a quick look at what Full Menus are and what options they include.

Again I'm not saying if an option is useful or not, but in the case of

send and receive E-Mail. It has nothing to do with E-Mail.

I do not want to have basic menu in TB same as in MS OE, there should be

Re[2]: SpellCheck Not working for me?

2008-01-15 Thread Jim Nafus
Hello Group,

Don't know if this is normal behavior or not for the spell checker, but the
mis-spelled word (that TB thinks is mis-spelled at least) is not highlighted in
the message. There are times where it thinks something is wrong, but I cannot
see where it is finding the problem.

Also, the spellcheck is having problems with email addresses (it thinks [EMAIL
PROTECTED] is seperate from .com).

Am I missing a setting somewhere or is this normal behavior.

I had it underline shouldn't. I right clicked it to see what it suggested
then clicked away (doing nothing) and when I started typing again, the
underlining disappeared. Go figure :)

Peter,

I get the squiggly lines for the misspelled words in all editors, but I
am talking about when I hit spell check (F4), I do not get a word
highlighted indicating which word TB thinks is misspelled.

I switched the editor to plain text (MicroEd) and it will highlight
the misspelled words during spellcheck there, but not in any of the 3
other editors. Can anyone confirm this as well (or has this already
been reported and I missed it)?

All 4.0.0.* versions. AV when first moving folder tree scroll bar

2008-01-15 Thread Roger Phillips
Hello All,

In all 4.0.0.* versions, TB opens with my folder tree in its upmost position
and a vertical scroll bar is in position. If I double click on the scroll
bar and slide it upwards all is OK. But if I click in the space above the
scroll bar the tree moves OK but I get an AV as shown in the attached 'scroll
bar AV.jpg' file. Clicking on OK sends the AV away. Thus there is a bug and a
nuisance but not a serious one.

Any confirmations?

The short-cut keys Ctrl+Home also work OK.

Yep, same for me in 4.0.0.11.

Hi Feli,

 here it is clearly visible

Here it is plainly visible in the message preview pane but not in the
message full view. It is fully useful for me, however.

Rework of downloading images GUI

2008-01-15 Thread Marek Mikus
Hello,
I have tested interface for downloading images on some basic users and GUI
is hard to understand for them.

First of all, interface should be similar like in other apps like
Firefox/Internet Explorer, so yellow pane (like new Search introduced in
4.0.0.9 alpha) will appear in Preview pane, if message requires downloading
external images.

There should be introduction why this pane appeared and buttons/links
for downloading images Allow once/Block once and Advanced... for
opening URL manager and storing allow/block.

Suggestions?
