Re: Change from Pop to IMAP
Dear Roelof, --- Roelof Otten / Sunday Sun 15. Apr 2012, 08:53 AM Change from Pop to IMAP EC Must I create a new account on TB! or is there a simpler way? On EC gMail I made the required changes already. Yes, you need to create a new account. I thought so ... Consider this: your pop3 account stores its messages local. The new imap account stores its messages at the server. Suppose you could change the account, that would mean you'd get an odd account with local and remote folders or only remote folders with loss of your local messages. Both are suboptimal solutions. Therefore creating a new imap account is the best solution. Makes sense! IMAP on TB! does offer an option to also locally store your eMails. So that would be working if RL puts up a Note when converting. And Ritlabs being Ritlabs don't offer any other solution. ;-) LOL! I am aware that RITlabs is not Perfect but Good! :) Thanks for the reply. -- best regards | Using The Bat! 5.0.36.5 (BETA) Eddie | on Windows 7 6.1 | Build 7601 Service Pack 1 Current beta is 5.1.0.1 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Modules or Plug ins for The Bat
Sunday, April 15, 2012 I'm still trying to find a comprehensive RSS Reader Module for The Bat. The current plug in on the site at the following location appears to be very old. http://www.ritlabs.com/en/products/thebat/tips_detail.php?ID=2294 I'm not really convinced it will work with this version and the process of installation makes it very very unattractive to install. I'm engaged in a global project which involves using RSS. It would be nice if that RSS feed was sitting in my e-mail client instead of opening yet another application to read the information. While a separate RSS Reader is fine for my 700+ feeds. Their are a few feeds that I really need inside The Bat. So, is there a cleaner module for RSS or some thing that is current? An average user will simply look at that, throw their hands up, and walk away. In a world word where modules are, download, click to install and the module is running; a page full of instructions, with code commands is simply too much. I did do some testing with RSS feeds in Outlook and Thunderbird. The Mission Critical feeds were in place in under two minutes. I believe something should be done to have a much better module framework for The Bat. If not, we loose access to a audience who need the RSS module as a Mission Critical element. Re: Modules or Plug ins for The Bat
Ethan, Advantages of the plugin idea: You get access to functions that the developer hasn't time or resources to provide. Optimally, there will be a long list of such. Disadvantages: Since the plugin provider is very likely working for free, (s)he is unlikely to have a long term interest in maintaining the plugin. Or of fully developing it with nice to have features. In the case of TB, antivirus and antispam plugins seem to be exceptions to that. In the long view, there is something to be said for devoting available resources to function development rather than maintaining a plug in interface. Especially if little other development is happening with the software, which is not the case with TB. It is to Rit's credit that this old plugin still works. Other clients with plugin interfaces often have lists of plugins that no longer work. The reason that they are still available is that nobody is paying attention, I suspect. [5.1] Messing it up with time offsets
Hello all, Except for a test trial months ago, I haven't been using any v5 betas nor following this list in detail, so I don't know if this issue has been seen, reported and addressed before. This morning I upgraded from v4.2.44.2 to v5.1.0.1 (BETA) and one of the first things I noticed was that messages in an specific folder were sorted (I sort by Created-Descending) differently to what I had seen with v4. Please see attached screen capture and notice the date and time on the third message, the one that was selected. Now see below the Date header for the same messages in the same order. I am in Timezone GMT+2. As you can see, the times in the Created column of Message list are all correct (created time + 2 hours) except for the third one which is created + 6 hours. This is why when sorting it is displayed in third place and not in first. Date: Sun, 8 Apr 2012 10:53:07 + Date: Sun, 8 Apr 2012 11:03:08 + Date: Sun, 8 Apr 2012 10:52:59 + Date: Sun, 8 Apr 2012 16:16:56 + Date: Sun, 8 Apr 2012 18:55:00 + Date: Thu, 12 Apr 2012 13:58:35 + But look at the Created date and times displayed on the Headers pane (in the same order as sorted by Created column) and notice that local times (offset by +2 hours) for all messages, including the third one : domingo, 08 de abril de 2012, 12:53:07 (Sun, 8 Apr 2012 10:53:07 +) domingo, 08 de abril de 2012, 13:03:08 (Sun, 8 Apr 2012 11:03:08 +) domingo, 08 de abril de 2012, 12:52:59 (Sun, 8 Apr 2012 10:52:59 +) domingo, 08 de abril de 2012, 18:16:56 (Sun, 8 Apr 2012 16:16:56 +) domingo, 08 de abril de 2012, 20:55:00 (Sun, 8 Apr 2012 18:55:00 +) jueves, 12 de abril de 2012, 15:58:35 (Thu, 12 Apr 2012 13:58:35 +) Has anyone noticed something similar? Hello MAU, ... Has anyone noticed something similar? I don't know if this may be related to the Timezone offset problem that Tony Hoare has been reporting, it probably is, although I think his problem was with messages created/sent by himself. The 'timezone offset problem' seems to be related to the timezone that TB thinks it's in now. Therefore, when creating messages, they have the wrong outgoing offset but also when receiving messages from external sources, they present the wrong local time. Try sending yourself a message and then look at he offset being used for your locale. I bet you find a problem. You can try 5.0.36.2 and you may see the problem fixed. Also, if you are on IMAP, you can flush the cache and let it reload. For me, the times became correct but after moving to another folder, then back, the times went wrong again.
