Even aborting does not help. Due to this, I have almost stopped
using the bat and shifted to Eudora.

But I _cannot_ get TB! to shut down.
I have this problem, too. The only way I can shut TB! is to reboot.
It's inconceivable that such an action should be necessary under W2K
SP4, but there's no way to kill the task. I can't do it with Task
Manager and KILL -F at the command line

You might want to look into NOD32 or another AV solution as a
replacement for Norton. I too have had my share of problems with the
TB/NAV combination - lng mail retrieval times, 100% CPU usage,
inability to kill tasks, and have not had this problem with NOD32. Of
