That's a factor, but I found BayesIt just didn't work for me. It
seems to work for some here, though.

K9 is a Bayesian filter, too, and it's operating at 98.6% accuracy for
me. BayesIt was less than 1% accurate after training for more than a
month with hundreds of good and spam messages.

I'm pretty much new to this mailing list, and I don't know if you have already
discussed this topic, but...

I pretty much manage to do everything related to Bat! on my own, but one thing I
can't find info on is UTF-8 support. I have many friends using Linux, and they
write by default to UTF-8 encoding. Problem is that they use Cyrillic code set,
and this kind of conversion in Bat just won't work. I can read every mail
properly, but when trying to reply, I end up with bunch of signs.

Is there a way to outflank this or I'm left to the mercy of Ritlabs & their wish
list, where UTF-8 full support is already for about 2 years as I'm aware of.

10x very much.

Can't be done, not with a single setting. What helps is:
account -> properties -> templates -> reply -> check "Do not use
  from name for reply-to address"
That has to be set for every account, but that won't help you when you
pick an address from your address book that has the name added.
A macro in a template won't help you either, since you'd need the
macro to be rather complex to skip names for messages with multiple
recipients. Apart from that, templates need to be set for every
account and you'd need to adapt your existing folder and address book
templates.

When you're only problem is with mailing lists, than you'd be done
with the account setting(s).

Yes - it can be done in templates:

%to=''%to='%toaddr'

You'd have to change all templates that you used to employ the macro,
but it really seems a little "harsh".

HL> One way this comes up, which I am trying to avoid, is with replies

I actually rather dislike replies to a person on a mailing list being
addressed just to the list even more than the (pretty poor) habit of
allowing TB's default of associating a person's name with the list
address (shudder). I firmly believe that the method I (and many others
here) use is the best of all worlds. You can see that I have replied
to you directly and so can everyone else. Yet I still make it clear
that the message addressed to you is not going to your email address.

HL> Again, the main thing is that I want to be able to set this once,

You can set it in your default templates on a per-account basis, but
you'll need to reiterate it for every group / person in the address
book should you wish it to cascade. It's not an option.

question from a newbie

2004-11-19 Thread Henry Lefkowitz
Hi! I'm new to this list, and I apologize for the denseness that
brings forth such a question, and just so it gets covered, I am using
gmail on the web for this list, as I would rather maintain this lists'
messages on a server I can easily check from anywhere.

There is one particular thing that I would like to be able to do,
concerning TheBat, and I don't know if it's possible. I do know that
it's an issue of personal preference that others may not agree with.
Anyway...

I would like for all messages that come from me, from any account, to
any person, whether it is a new message, a reply, a forward, or a
redirect, to have a "to" line that doesn't contain the name...only the
email address. I know that this can be done, for individual contacts
or groups, in the address book, but is there a way to set this as a
global setting, from the beginning? Is this done with a template?
One way this comes up, which I am trying to avoid, is with replies to
mailing list messages, where the reply address might show up as, e.g.,
"John Doe <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>".

Again, the main thing is that I want to be able to set this once, not
each time, or for each person or list, when I want it to occur.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide this new user!

With peace,

Henry

Interesting work-around, even if I wanted to have the possibility to
change the parameter in order to get different files. But I could also
obtain the same filename and modify/delete in other ways.

stable. My "Out of 100 score" setting is "Average" and spam scores
need to be 90 or better. I have a <1% error rate for one slipping

I just had a similar problem. I have a filter that colours unread
messages. I also have one that colours posts from me a different colour
from the rest and I couldn't get it to work.

It was because I had it above the one that colours unread messages. So the
filter was working, it was colouring my posts but then the following
filter coloured it back again to unread colours.

What I'm trying to say is check the sequence the filters run in.

Confirmed here. It doesn't happen often, but it's an
annoyance. Yesterday, it happened while I was sending
a mail (while receiving mail).

I wonder if this could be a synchronization issue? On
other occasions, I've noticed that the problem occurred
when incoming mail triggered a filter which forwards
the mail as an attachment to my office. It does not
appear to happen all the time.

In all cases, the problem is "fixed" by simply re-
filtering the Inbox.

Filter hickups

2004-11-19 Thread Gerard
Hi Bat Users,

I have some strange non repeatable problems with the filtering of emails.

I get mails that normally filter to a folder being left in my inbox. That the
filters work is proven by the fact that if I re-filter the inbox with the
incoming filters they do get sorted to their correct folders.

Yesterday I received a mail from a friend that normally goes to me "Friends"
folder, but now ended up in the replies folder.
This shows that the email is being processed by the filter system but hat my
friends filter apparently was out for a leak :-)

Are these known problems and are they being worked on?
