That is already possible. I saw " days until Christmas..." or
"already living days and xxx hours" on this list or on TBOT.
Again, this is made an internal command (template macro) which
requests the information from outside and puts it into the message at
the pre-defined spot. It is not an external command.

An external command would insert anything into your message which is
not in the template.

Highlight the "unread" virtual folder, then in the "view" menu select
"message list columns" and add a checkmark to the "folder" entry. You
can move the entry to the position you want; I have mine as the
rightmost on the display. This will show you the account and folder for
each message in the list (at least it does here on version 3.85). I made
this change quite some time back to help me locate client correspondence
that had been automatically filtered.

one, and if there isn't, I hope one can be added someday.

When viewing unread folders there are multiple instances of "inbox"
and there is no way of knowing which is which. Yes, they're in order,
but if only four of ten have something new, I don't know which is
which.

Ah well, I experimented to see whether the original or the changed

I know that the sorting office filters can create a temporary text
file to contain the message content and pass the name of that file to
an external command as the first formal parameter. As I write, I've no
idea whether the external command can modify the message content so
I've set up a small experiment to pause processing to let me modify
the file by hand and see what happens. If this text goes through
unaltered, it means that an external command set in an outgoing filter
won't be able to modify message text.

In the meantime, as I wrote upthread, there are uses for this sort of
thing.

Hm. Looks like I'm still not understanding what you mean. These are
macros that request information (or even trigger action), not an
external command that inserts something by itself.

I see. I hadn't caught the gist of your question.

I don't see how an external command could technically do that, I think
the macro needs a command that requests the information.

However, I don't know how the macros and templates really work behind
the scenes, so I am not sure it's impossible. Personally, I cannot

Excellent - thanks Miguel. I don't normally run with VTitleSpy enabled
and just did it there to illustrate how the PUT macro can insert text
from an external program since it seemed relevant to the OP's question.

Unfortunately, as you can see from my sig, I'm running a very old
version of TB! and it seems that "MyMacros" doesn't work with TB
version 1?
