>From Don Arburn Sunday night:

“I have tried to get word to everyone, this is for those who I don’t know
how to get ahold of. Jenni Arburn passed away sometime last night
unexpectedly. I wasn’t able to speak with her this morning, or all day. I
called a neighbor to check on her, no answer. Friends broke in and found
her. I am stuck in Memphis until the morning. Please send love to her so
she can find her way. More when I know more.”

Jenni Arburn passed away sometime between Saturday night and Sunday
morning. Jenni had some long term health issues, and we believe she
succumbed to complications from that.

Don Arburn was in Memphis waiting for his truck to be serviced, and flew
back Monday on the first flight available. He is trying to cope with this
staggering loss, and requests no calls for a few days.

Feel free to contact Ann Scott, Joe Ranzau or me if you need him or have

Re: [Texascavers] TCR Registration volunteers!

2018-08-29 Thread Linda Palit
“I have been informed that if you don't have a wristband this year, you
will be kicked out... so... y'all should all register as soon as you get to
camp (cash or check only this year!)!”

Really? i have seen people go to registration half a dozen times before
catching somebody to take their money.
Better start registration early so the people who arrive and help set up
can register. And start looking for volunteers to be the Wrist Band Nazi
Patrol !

I remember TCR days when if a family or person had a difficulty situation
they were given reduced registration.
I adamantly believe all should pay and have called people out who did not.
But perhaps consider practicality of demand, tone and result you really
want vs reaction you illicit as you post about throwing people out.

it takes a lot of volunteer labor and goodwill to make TCR happen. I am
happy to help with registration for a few hours.

[Texascavers] Cave Water Quality

2018-08-13 Thread Linda Palit
I will search for some additional information on this but it is time
critical.

As development continues to occur across the Hill Country some our state
most precious natural resources are facing increasing pressure from the
expanding population. The TCEQ is currently reviewing an application for a
Waster Water Treatment Plant to discharge up to 500,000 gallons of treated
sewage effluent into the upper dry portion of Honey Creek which will travel
downstream to the flowing part of the creek by the cave entrance and
eventually into the Guadalupe River. The TCEQ public comments period is
open and this is your opportunity submit your remarks about this proposal.

You can make comments at http://www14.tceq.texas.gov/epic/eComment/ and by
entering permit number #WQ0015688001.

Thanks everyone and I appreciate your involvement.

Some of you may use Amazon.com liberally when Xmas shopping. (I do). Did
you know you can also shop at smile.amazon.com and help Texas caves? The
following is a direct explanation of Smile from their website. When
you shop at smile.amazon.com, you’ll find the exact same low prices,
vast selection and convenient shopping experience as Amazon.com, with the
added bonus that Amazon will donate a portion of the purchase price to your
favorite charitable organization. You can choose from nearly one million
organizations to support. The AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of
the purchase price from your eligible AmazonSmile purchases.

The Texas Cave Management Association is a listed Amazon charitable
organization. TCMA, as you know, owns Robber Baron, Whirlpool, Deep/Punkin
and manages O9you know, the majority of the caves we've enjoyed this
year. I recently ordered an LSU-themed dress and it came in exactly the
same as if I'd ordered it on Amazon.com. It's totally legit and I strongly
encourage all of you Amazon shoppers to support TCMA using the site!

Just go to smile.amazon.com and it will ask you to pick a charity.
Search Texas Cave Management Association and click on it.

 Have a great day!

*TCMA ELECTION*

If you are a current member of TCMA you should receive a ballot in the mail

be postmarked no later than November 14. Results will be tallied and
announced by November 21st.

We intend to have a new electronic voting system by next fall, but had to
scramble to hold the election this year.

If you do not receive a ballot by the middle of next week, October 29,

Only about 1 million dollars and I bet they would take less. What a
great project for TSA and permanent home for TCR. . . .

Update from Steve (her Daddy): As of 8:30 this morning, Mallory is
showing signs of life. She responds to poking and prodding, and has opened
her eyes, moved her fingers and hands, and moves her tongue in an attempt
to get the feeding tube out of her throat. She’s not awake, but her brain
is operating and now that the paralytics are gone, she can move a little.
She is still on a strong dose of sedative, as they do not want her coming
around too fast. (The stuff she’s on is propofol, same as what killed
Michael Jackson. It’s one of those “do not try this at home” deals.) On the
negative side, she has a slight case of pneumonia, and that’s being treated
with antibiotics. There’s also a few other problems, but nothing
spectacular. All in all, it’s an improvement. The doctors don’t want us
getting too optimistic, but Vickie and I are celebrating. It’s been a long
ten days, and we need this.

Yeah Linda, I have too, even growing up in north central Texas
(Brownwood). But I never found the ones up here crawling on me at night or
biting me, nor saw them commonly in caves. And the ones in Central America
are on steroids compared to those up here in terms of size and blood lust.
It's not just the bugs you see, but the parasites you don't see. According
to what Barb initially told me, and what the CDC site says right now: . .
.the parasite *Trypanosoma cruzi*, which is transmitted to animals and
people by insect vectors and is found only in the Americas (mainly, in
rural areas of Latin America where poverty is widespread). Yeah, it is a
dangerous world. You can get pooh-poohed anywhere, anytime! Ha, gotcha!

2012-10-21 Thread Linda Palit
THANKS to all for making the TCMA Breakfast happen. There would be no
reason to cook if there were not hungry mouths to feed. And the people
coming out before dawn to prepare the food are noble! I can get up but
these people can cook!

Great works, and gracias,
