[tw] [TWC} Keep these tiddlers linked to this server so that you can synchronise subsequent changes

2014-02-19 Thread Robert Edwards
Searched but didn't find an answer that I could grok. When importing
plugins the option in the subject is checked by default. I'm reading in
various places that there is a backstage sync option, which I can't find.
Was it removed in more recent versions? (I'm using 2.8.1). How does it work?

Thanks!

[tw] [TW5] Problem saving in TW5.1.4

2014-10-22 Thread Robert Edwards
Since upgrading today from 5.1.2 to 5.1.4 I'm sometimes (but not always)
encountering a problem saving -- I get the following dialog box:

[Exception... Component returned failure code: 0x8052000e
 (NS_ERROR_FILE_IS_LOCKED) [nsIFileOutputStream.init]  nsresult:
 0x8052000e (NS_ERROR_FILE_IS_LOCKED)  location: JS frame ::
 chrome://tiddlyfox/content/overlay.js :: TiddlyFox.saveFile :: line 98
 data: no]

If I then reload my tw I see that the save did fail -- the new content is
not there.

I'm on Win7, FF 33.0, TiddlyFox alpha18.

I'm not sure why TF would sometimes think the file is locked. And as I
said, I *never *got this before the upgrade

I appreciate any and all advice!

I had to reboot my laptop this morning after an unrelated sw update.
Afterward I reopened my TW and recreated the tiddler I was trying to create
yesterday -- same title, same content which was copied and pasted from the
same email as yesterday. It saved just fine this morning.

Very frustrating! I hate intermittent bugs.

[tw] [TW5] Suppressing formatting

2014-10-23 Thread Robert Edwards
I've searched and experimented but can't find quite the right combination
of things to do what I want. I'm trying to create a tiddler that looks like
the following (colored blue here just for clarity):

text

ssh://u...@bogushostname.com

text

I cannot seem to suppress the italicization of everything after the double
slash. If I do the following:

text

ssh://u...@bogushostname.com

text

I get:

text

ssh:*user@**bogushostname.com text *

(I hope that renders correctly when I post it -- everything after the colon
is italicized and the line breaks between the second and third lines are
removed)

I tried various permutations of tildes and triple-double quotes but no joy.
Suggestions?

Thanks!

Re: [tw] [TW5] Suppressing formatting

2014-10-23 Thread Robert Edwards
Hmm -- not sure if this is a bug. the three backticks have to be preceded
by two newlines. This works as expected:

 clone from

 ```
 ssh://h...@repolocationbogus.com
 ```
 Lorum ipsum

But this does not:

 clone from
 ```
 ssh://h...@repolocationbogus.com
 ```
 Lorum ipsum

The latter yields (approximately):

 clone from `
 ssh://h...@repolocationbogus.com

 Lorum ipsum

In the latter case, in my TW the code-block-interpreted part gets rendered
in this pinky-red color. The red text also has the code-block boxes around
it, including the one backtick on the first line. The former case does not
get colorized when rendered and only the second line gets rendered in
monospace.

I noticed in your example you have the two newlines before the first set of
backticks. Is that correctly required? The docs here:
http://tiddlywiki.com/static/Code%2520Blocks%2520in%2520WikiText.html
...say only that the backticks must be at the start of the line and
immediately followed by a newline.

Thanks for your help! I'm having a bit of a struggle transitioning from TWC
to TW5 and I appreciate the hand-holding!

 This stuff gets tricky to explain. The problem with the following example

 text of previous paragraph
 ```
 monospaced
[tw] Re: One TiddlyWiki or Many
2014-10-24 Thread Robert Edwards
I've mostly worked in TWC but I'm trying to migrate to TW5 to be more
future-proof. But I've got several TWCs that I use. One is a catch-all
notebook, one is a journal, and one or two are TWC-based apps.
One thing that I've noticed though is that there seems to be some
crosstalk in the setting between them. E.g. I've got two that are based
on MPTW. One uses the MPTW trim theme and is in my Dropbox so that I can
use TWITS and get to it from anywhere. Because I don't want to fill up my
DB with TW backups I've disabled SaveBackups. The other is used strictly on
my Mac and is in normal, local  storage so I have SaveBackups on, and
because it's for a different purpose I have a different theme.
I find that if I open the local one, the DB one will change themes and
toggle SaveBackups to match the local one. When I then open the DB from my
phone, it's got the settings of the local one. Very odd.
Are any of you who use multiple TWCs seeing anything similar?
On Friday, October 24, 2014 10:26:23 AM UTC-4, Captain Packers wrote:
 I'm just wondering what MO people have adopted as best practice and why.
 Do you use a single TiddlyWiki for everything, or do you have a virtual
 web of multiple TiddlyWikis that you jump around in.
 I see the benefit of a single TiddlyWiki as being the search ability and
 non-linear convenience and approach around which TiddlyWiki was built. My
 concern about a single TiddlyWiki is the eventual size that it might attain
 and related performance issues, especially if you start embedding and
 attaching files internally (TW5).
 With a web of TiddlyWikis, they could be kept small, but you might
 sacrifice some of the search ability of TiddlyWiki.
 I'm using TiddlyWiki mostly for journaling my workflow.
 I would like to know how others are doing this.
 Thanks in advance.
Re: [tw] [TW5] Suppressing formatting
2015-09-23 Thread Robert Edwards
Interesting discussion on Github -- thanks for the link. Eric's suggestion
solved my immediate problem, and I sincerely appreciate his help! However
as y'all discussed on Github I do think a simpler syntax would be helpful.
Cheers!
Re: [tw] [TW5] Suppressing formatting
2015-09-22 Thread Robert Edwards
Since this is somewhat related to the previous question I'll reply to my
old post and add on to this thread. In the future someone might find both
questions useful...
Anyway, suppose I want to have double-slashes in the body of a paragraph,
and I don't want the paragraph formatted as block text (i.e. no font
differences) e.g.:
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Vivamus augue
urna, scelerisque vel pulvinar eget, tincidunt vitae tellus. Etiam at
hendrerit lacus. Vivamus pulvinar porta lacinia. Apple //e Proin a lorem
bibendum, egestas ipsum ut, accumsan quam. Vivamus sagittis laoreet ex in
ullamcorper. Phasellus rhoncus orci condimentum orci aliquet, quis
consectetur mauris vehicula. Sed nec eleifend felis.
(Text made red for emphasis but would be black in my tiddler). Any way to
do this?
Thanks
[tw] [TWC] Line breaks between consecutive sliders
2016-01-08 Thread Robert Edwards
I've searched but cannot find an answer to a little annoyance.  I'm using
David Szego's dGSD and would like to have some lists hidden in sliders --
e.g. in a Projects dashboard have dormant and completed project lists
collapsed.
{{col{
<>
<>
<>
}}}
What I find is that when the sliders are collapsed, the buttons are
rendered on the same line. I would like to have them on separate lines.
When the first button is expanded the second button appears below, on a
separate line, but I have not yet stumbled on the syntax to force a line
break between the two collapsed slider buttons.
Help greatly appreciated!
I see there's a new FF today (47) and one of the mentioned changes is in
add-on compatibility:
I'm reluctant to upgrade without some confidence TiddlyFox will continue to
work. Any insights?
Thanks!
[tw] Re: [TWC] Line breaks between consecutive sliders
2016-01-14 Thread Robert Edwards
@cmari -- yes, on latest. It's a bit confusing b/c the "loaded" seems to be
one rev older than the "empty". I could not recall which I started with. In
mine I find that if I post the code snippet I posted above by itself like
you I also get line breaks. However that's not the entire tiddler, rather
it's the second of two columns. In the full tiddler they render side by
side.
@Eric -- thanks! That puts them on separate lines. Having now seen them on
consecutive lines I'd now like whitespace between them, i.e. another blank
line. Seems to put me right back where I started, wanting a line break and
not able to create it. Grrr! I tried inserting a  between the divs,
inserting within the divs, putting in its own div, etc but haven't found a
formula that works. I know, picky picky, picky Here's the current
appearance:
<https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-d8gA_EDHS08/Vpe3Zo6_gpI/Bms/PVzTWZryqwY/s1600/Rob%2527s%2BdGSD%2B-%2BOn%2Ba%2Broll%2B-%2BMozilla%2BFirefox_2016-01-14_09-55-03.png>
[tw] Re: Codemirror Documentation
2016-03-30 Thread Robert Edwards
I realize I'm replying to an old post.
I've just run across this discussion and reference to CodeMirror it looks
intriguing but I'm also having great difficulty figure out what I can do
with it and *how*. For instance Danielo mentions in this post to which I'm
replying that perhaps Stephen is in vi(m) editing mode. How would I enable
that? I use vim day-to-day and it would make my life easier to use it in TW!
What documentation I've found so far has been either sparse, somewhat
obtuse, or (e.g. the official CM docs) too generic for me to understand how
it works specifically in the context of TW.
Thanks!
[tw] Re: Codemirror Documentation
2016-04-01 Thread Robert Edwards
Thanks BJ & Hegart.
I managed to get vi mode working. One gotcha I've found is that to change
modes in vi from insertion to command, the key is the escape key. This is
also the key TW uses to abandon a tiddler. It brings up an "Abandon changes
to this tiddler?" dialog. If I cancel it, it returns me to the editor but
fortunately also switches to command. Annoying but liveable I think.
Good to know. I'll have to see how successful I'll be adapting to changing
[tw] [TWC] dGSD config question
2016-06-27 Thread Robert Edwards
Hi everyone -- I'm beginning to pull my hair out. Somewhere within dGSD is
a config tiddler with checkboxes to enable/disable showing full names of
projects & areas associated with actions, vs just showing [P] if there is a
project and/or [A] if there's an area. I've been looking for this setting
for three days. If anyone could point me to it I will be very grateful!
A more complex question -- I've also been playing with css to try to
prevent linebreaks after actions before the project or area. dGSD has
linebreaks; mgtd does not. I prefer the mgtd behavior. So far I've been
unsuccessful in suppressing the linebreaks though. But my css knowledge is
limited so that's no big surprise. Any suggestions welcomed.
Thanks!
[tw] Re: [TWC] dGSD config question
2016-07-07 Thread Robert Edwards
Found the rule that's adding the line break. It's:
.dGSDInboxList .innerList .innerListItem .plain,.dGSDInboxList .innerList
.innerListItem .tableWrapper,.dGSDList .innerList .innerListItem
.plain,.dGSDList .innerList .innerListItem .tableWrapper {display:
table;}
>
>
If I disable that rule on the .tableWrapper via FF's Inspector tool the
line break goes away. However I've not found the right incantation to put
in StyleSheet to override it. (Nor do I know what ill effects doing so
might have elsewhere)
[tw] Re: Usable (pre-beta) version of Cardo - a new TW5 for Getting Things Done
2016-09-29 Thread Robert Edwards
Hi David,
Great work. I'm playing with it now. The first hurdle that I immediately
run into is a migration path from my well-used, well-populated TWC dGSD to
Cardo. Even if I import the tiddlers into Cardo they are in the wrong
format so don't work. A migration tool would be very helpful. Right now all
I can see to do is to abandon my dGSD in place and start clean with Cardo,
or laboriously convert/reenter everything by hand. (Once I figure out
Cardo's basic usage, that is) I realize such a tool is a huge request!
Or is there something that currently exists?
Speaking of usage, I've not yet even grokked how to do the simplest things.
For example you mention editing the Review tiddler to see your tasks. What
do you mean "edit" -- actually change the code in the body of the tiddler?
Replace the "Cardo" tag with my name? Something else? I haven't found
anything that works yet
Thanks! I'm looking forward to actually using it!
[tw] Re: Usable (pre-beta) version of Cardo - a new TW5 for Getting Things Done
2016-09-29 Thread Robert Edwards
Thanks!
Really, you don't use ticklers? That's one of the things I use most! I
could probably just as easily put things in my calendar (and sometimes do)
but having it all in the TW is handy. Examples are things like:
   - Every month at work I need to refresh my wifi password. I set up a
   tickler to remind me, and the tickler contains a link to the webpage to do
   so. Click & go!
   - A tickler fires about a week prior to birthdays, holidays, etc to
   remind me to get gifts, cards, etc
   - There are some tasks that I have to do quarterly so I created a
   tickler for those (and added a "quarterly" button alongside the weekly,
   fortnightly, monthly, yearly buttons)
   - Reminders for appointments, meetings, etc -- my "Ticklers requiring
   action" and "Upcoming ticklers (next 7 days)" lists are my most-used lists
   of my dashboard
As I said, I could put these in my calendar but having them in my dashboard
along with actions etc is very handy. (I've also customized the dashboards
somewhat). What I *can't* do with my calendar is click a button in the
tickler and turn it into an action item. E.g. a birthday reminder tickler
fires and I turn it into an errand action to get a card. Another thing that
my calendar doesn't do is "remember" that I've performed the required task
-- if I click the "+m" (or whatever) button in a tickler after I've
performed the task then it disappears until it's due again. A reminder in a
calendar however sometimes leaves me wondering "Did I do that already?"
Cheers!
[tw] Re: TiddlyFox - Design Issue - The GLOBE is too small
2017-05-30 Thread Robert Edwards
What got me was not knowing I had to look for a new icon, and that my
saving had been silently disabled. So it's not a case of not noticing the
color of the icon, *it's noticing that there's an icon at all! *It was only
after I'd lost work that I realized that TF had been updated and that I had
to take explicit action.
I will accept part blame; it did ask me to confirm leaving the page. In
dGSD (TWC-based), I've gotten used to seeing the "leave page" confirmation
pop-up every time I close the page, whether I have unsaved changes or not.
(There's a setting that's supposed to only ask when there are unsaved
changes but it often reverts back to "always ask." That's a different
annoyance) I this case I knew that I'd saved so closed the page. What I
didn't know was that due to my not re-enabling saving in the new version of
TF, my save had silently failed.
I love TW but this bit me hard and I'm a little angry about it.
Hi Arlen,
Thanks for updating for TWC! However I'm getting the following error when I
Re: [tw] Re: TiddlyWiki in the Sky supports Classic :)
2017-10-16 Thread Robert Edwards
It's probably relevant to note that my primary TWC is an mGSD based TW core
2.6.5. I seem to recall that when I first started using it I tried updating
the core but ran into run-time errors
For fun I tried a different one that I use with a different project. It's a
less-customized TWC based on core 2.8.1. With this one, when I try to save
it wants to save it to my local filesystem, not back to DB.
HTH!
Re: [tw] [TWC]Self-hosting
2018-01-05 Thread Robert Edwards
Thanks! But it still tells me I must save it before I can save it.
You may have hit on something -- my TWC is based on an older core version
of TW. When I first began using it I attempted to update it but ran into
compatibility issues with some of its plugins. Perhaps it's time I revisit
trying to update it.
Re: [tw] [TWC]Self-hosting
2018-01-16 Thread Robert Edwards
I got busy with other things but finally got back to trying this. I have
updated my twc to core version 290b3. Saving now seems to work on chrome on
macos and windows 7. It does not work on FF on either os -- it wants me to
download the new file. The same occurs on safari on macos and ios (once I
forced allowing editing). Based on the desktop results I had high hopes for
chrome on ios but so far all I've been able to get is the "Reading HTML
file" popup then it appears to hang. It never proceeds farther and I never
get my TW. I wish I knew how to debug the DB api and get some visibility
into what it's doing
Thanks!
Re: [tw] [TWC]Self-hosting
2018-02-01 Thread Robert Edwards
Replying to myself so that if anyone else comes along and looking at this
later there will be breadcrumbs.
So far I'm having (mostly) success with MicroTiddlyServer --
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/tiddlywikiclassic/Eb48yQBof5c
I still need to tweak a few settings to my liking but I'm able to access,
edit & save my TWC from any device within my home network, and by VPNing
into my network I'm also able to do the same from outside.
Thanks!
[tw] [TWC]Self-hosting
2018-01-02 Thread Robert Edwards
(Sorry for posting in the "wrong" group but there's a lot more traffic
here, as well as a lot of TWC expertise!)
I'd like to self-host the TWC-based dGSD that I've been using for years. I
previously used Jeremy's TiddlyWiki in the Sky but that went away with
DropBox's api change. David Szego's TW5-based *Cardo* isn't clicking with
me and my dGSD has a lot of info that would be painful to move over into a
cardo. Arlen's TWITS5 port is close but I can't save (it fails with the
error "You need to save this TiddlyWiki to a file before you can save
changes").
So what I'm trying to do is more or less replicate the functionality of
classic TWITS but do so securely on my own server, in my own house. I need
to be able to access it from a laptop or mobile, either on my own home
network or remotely by VPNing into my network when I'm on the road. I've
got a dedicated RPi that's already running my VPN endpoint that I foresee
serving the file.
I've searched for solutions and found several apparent possibilities (e.g.
TiddlyServer), but it's not clear if they are indeed actual solutions (i.e.
will they fulfill my need) and which would be most appropriate. Also,
there's been quite a bit of link rot and archive.org doesn't have many of
the dead links archived.
I'm sure someone must have experience doing something similar -- anyone
have any suggestions you'd like to share?
Thanks!
