[tw5] Re: Avoid TW Desktop backing up Wiki's

2020-12-02 Thread Alfonso Arciniega
At least 3 times my TW was corrupted (or I modified the TW and I regretted
it later) in the past year. I was always able to go back to a previous
version. Definitely I wouldn't disable the backup feature.

This is what I do: Every week (or every X number of days, your preference),
I delete all previous versions except the last one of each day (i.e. I keep
the latest version of each weekday) and delete the rest.

[tw5] Re: Day/night theme in Tiddlywiki

2020-11-21 Thread Alfonso Arciniega
Thanks Mohammad,

The demo works very well.

However, I suggest the default Vanilla and Snow White themes in TiddlyWiki
could be improved to be more palatable to the eyes. They seem a bit
outdated; and novice users don't have the skills to customized them.

For instance, take the beautiful Thomas Elmiger's "Brick 004 Frozen Dark"
theme and compare it to the Vanilla theme.
For comparison open:
https://my-tw-notes.droppages.com/MyNotes.html
then go to ControlPanel, Appearance, Theme, and change the themes.

The repository for the Brick 004 Frozen Dark theme is at:
https://tid.li/tw5/themes.html
Thomas indicated there that this theme was optimized for performance and
has nearly no options for customization though.

I would like to see day/night versions of this nice theme with the switch
as shown in the demo.

Regards,

Alfonso

Jero and David,

"TheBook" in my DropPages is just an early version of a manual that I put
there just as an example that you can share any type of file at DropPages,
not just TiddlyWiki documents. As it is an early draft, it should not be in

You may want to try adding an empty TW file to the site, and also use a
https:// notation instead of http:// in the link, and see if there's any
difference.
Remember that your TW files need to be in the "C:\..
..\Dropbox\Apps\My.DropPages\espringer.droppages.com\Public" folder and
nowhere else.

Below is shown an option with Dropbox and DropPages. It could be used as a
temporary option if we don't want to spend a lot of time setting up a
repository site until TW Tones creates a permanent site.

It took me just a few minutes to create it. No code is required.

My demo site is at: https://my-tw-notes.droppages.com/

The DropPages site is at: https://droppages.com/

Note I did not use any theme, just edited the base.html to change the
tittle and the index.txt for content, and add a couple of TW's in the
Public folder.

This option is free for up to 50 MB size, good enough for five TW's.
DropPages has been operating since 2011.

2020-10-25 Thread Alfonso Arciniega
Hi Eric,

Try open a regular empty TiddlyWiki Classic (not a TiddlySpot version) and
import your tiddlers from your current version into that one. Do not import
the TiddlySpot plugins though, you won't need them. Use TiddlyDesktop
locally, having both TiddlyWikis (yours and the empty one) in the same
directory.

Download latest releases from TiddlyWiki Classic and TiddlyDesktop from:
https://github.com/TiddlyWiki/TiddlyWiki/releases/tag/v2.9.2

[tw5] Re: Cardo.wiki on Internet Archive

2020-10-14 Thread Alfonso Arciniega
Thank you Emily,

I tried out Cardo extensively and didn't work for me. Basically, I compared
Cardo with the functionality of mGSD in TiddlyWiki Classic. Card was not
even close, mostly because it was very rigid in the way it was structured,
specially in creating "lists". Additionally, "ticklers" couldn't be created
with the TW5 version of two years ago. Unfortunately I don't know TW5
enough to produce something similar to mGSD, nor have the time to learn TW5
deep enough to program it in due course.

The customization of mGSD allows me to "Get Things Done" way more
efficiently than most off the shelve GTD applications, especially due to
the easy data "filtering". For example, for my daily personal lists I use
Microsoft To Do mirroing an mGSD file. But with mGSD I can create any type
of lists, ticklers, and notes that cannot be done in MS To Do. And with
Quine, I have access to my wikis on all my devices. For my work projects,
I've been managing them in another mGSD wiki for many years.

I've looked at two "To Do" applications in TW5. While not bad, they are not
what the original Cardo intended to be (i.e. more like mGSD).

My wish for TW5 is that someone in this group would to commit to creating a
GTD application similar to mGSD (starting from scratch, not from Cardo).
Because I've been working (and playing with its features) with mGSD for
over ten years, I could help with the must have features, functionality
required, and flexibility (e.g. easy creation of customized lists). I
believe that a good GTD application in TW5 would be a great, not only as a
full application but a potential marketable solution for managing projects.

The latest version original mGSD, courtesy of Simon Baird, is (still)
available here (note that some functionality
does not work in modern browsers; I recommend downloading and opening it
with TiddlyDesktop).

[tw5] Re: Don't call attention to TWC

2020-05-17 Thread Alfonso Arciniega

Hi Mat,

One reason: I have several TWC's that cannot be
upgraded/transferred/modified to, to TW5 (so far). These are highly
functional/highly customized with plugins that don't exist in TW5 (again,
so far).

Let's go to an analogy: TWC is like a very good small car while TW5 is like
a sports fully loaded car. If you are given both for free you will take the
second in a nutshell; though if your small car can do some things that you
need (like parking in small spaces, low fuel consumption, etc.) you would
probably stick to it.

[tw5] Re: TiddlyWiki File won't open

2020-05-10 Thread Alfonso Arciniega
Mohit,

It happened to me a few times with TiddlyDesktop when I forgot to save my
TW before closing TiddlyDesktop, on macOS. Always save your TW and wait a
couple of seconds before closing the program, especially in old iMacs. This
probably does not make sense but it happened, never knew why. I even ended
stopping using TiddlyDesktop just to avoid making the same mistake again. I
installed the new TiddlyDesktop v0.0.14 recently hoping that this issue
won't happen again.

TonyM's recommendation usually works (import your TW into a new TW).

[tw5] Re: List of changes proposed for documentation

2020-05-03 Thread Alfonso Arciniega
Hi Tony,

Actually, I do use "TiddlyWiki for Firefox 2.0.2-prerelease" on "Waterfox
Classic 2020.03.01" for dedicated TiddlyWiki matters, especially TW5.

I even use the old "Firefox 3.6.36" (no extension required) due to TWC
compatibility to old plugins (I have a couple of TWC's that cannot be
upgraded to TW5 though I use them on a daily basis).

I also use Timimi on both Firefox and Chrome.

However I have to stick with Waterfox Classic (WFC) for a couple of reasons:

1) I cannot install any program at all in my office computer due to
security issues; we do not have administrative rights.
2) I want to keep all my TW related bookmarks in one browser (over one
hundred).

Therefore, I use a regular WFC at home and a WFC portable running from an
USB at the office. Probably not the most elegant solution though problem
solved.

Having explained the above, IMHO we should recommend, especially to the new
people looking into TW, one or two saving options only. Having too many
options to choose is not beneficial to the newcomer ("what, do you want me
to try all these options? Do I have the time?"). The option described above
should be an exception to the rule for people working in office
environments with no administrative rights.

Regards,

Alfonso

Hi Tony,

iPod touch + Quine2 seems like a wining combination. An iPod touch can do
almost everything an iPhone can except making phone calls (i.e. no celular
communications) for less than US$200 (32GB storage). Only caveat is its 4
in screen, which is not too bad when viewing horizontally. Quine2 can load
and save single TW files from almost anywhere, any cloud service.

[tw5] Re: GitHub Security

2020-01-14 Thread Alfonso Arciniega
Re Dropbox, the easiest (for me at last) way is:

   1. Create a new account at DropPages: https://droppages.com/
   2. After signing in, create your site at:
   https://my.droppages.com/Account
   3. A folder will be created in your Dropbox account:
   https://www.dropbox.com/home/Apps/My.DropPages

   4. Inside this folder you will find a folder with the name of your site:
   [your_name_site].droppages.com]
   5. Again, inside you fill find three folders: Content, Public, and
Templates. The starting site is a very, very basic landing website that you
may ignore if all you want is a site for your TWs.
   6. Finally, put your TWs in the Public folder; and bookmark them as:
   https://[your_name_site].droppages.com/[my_TW.html]

Your site and TWs remain private unless you give away the bookmarks.
Updating your TWs are a easy as uploading them to the Public folder in your
Dropbox. You may even want to create a separate email with a separate
Dropbox account for this solely purpose.

Note that DropPages will allow you to have up to two free sites:
https://[your_name_site].droppages.com] with a total maximum of 50 MB.

2019-03-28 Thread Alfonso Arciniega
Hi Adrian,

Good stuff. As I am not a programmer, my comments are on the format of the
content.

There is a lot of information in the TW. May I suggest putting navigation
tools/buttons everywhere? like going back, closing/expanding/minimizing
tiddlers, etc. Moreover, the Contents may separate the important parts of
the wiki with the less related important and related to the site part (they
are all together now); so the reader focus on the main content, what the TW
wants to communicate. For example, numbers 4, 6, 7,8, and 9 may go into one
number only under "About this Research".

Quine is working fine to me. However, the issue you described could happen
if you save your TW before you accept the changes in your tiddler. Make
sure you accepted all changes in all your edited tiddlers and only then
save your TW in you iPhone. Thereafter Quine tells you to upload your
edited TW.

[tw5] Re: Firefox v61, can we just save over our current Wiki file without all the dialogs?

2018-08-31 Thread Alfonso Arciniega
It is really odd, indeed. There is nothing in common: Windows 7 64-bit at
the office; Windows 10 at home. Not working on any FF 60+ plain English
edition without any modified settings nor other addons/extensions. Already
spent too much time on this issue, and I don't want to waste others time
anymore. Better we leave this issue as is. Other extensions for saving TW5
work fine. Thanks for helping.

2018-08-28 Thread Alfonso Arciniega
Yes, Mark, thanks. I've tried everything: New installations after deleting
profiles; sole extension; at home; at work; etc.

It is not that I cannot save my TW's. I am currently using BuggyJ's Save
Tiddlers v0.8 with no issues. And I am gonna try Riz's Timimi too, as per
suggestion from Josiah. I just was puzzled by Mario's extension not working
anymore post FF v60+.

[tw5] Re: Firefox v61, can we just save over our current Wiki file without all the dialogs?

2018-08-24 Thread Alfonso Arciniega
Thank you, Mario,

Unfortunately, nothing works. My last post was just an additional testing.
I had already tested several versions of the "File Backups" extension
(0.3.1, 0.3.5, & 0.3.7 beta) on several configurations/versions of FF,
including new installations.

All other extensions work fine, including the "Save Tiddlers" extension; so
it appears that the issue may not be on my side of the equation. Well, we
may have to leave this as it is right now, and close/complete the
discussion.

Regards,

Alfonso

[tw5] Re: Firefox v61, can we just save over our current Wiki file without all the dialogs?

2018-08-21 Thread Alfonso Arciniega
Hi Mario,

Today I installed a completely new Firefox Nightly Unbranded 61.0.2 64-bit
on a Windows 7. Thereafter I installed the updated file-backups v.0.37
beta. Once again, the extension does not work. The browser keeps asking if
I want to save or open (see my post of August 2). If I click save, it saves
a new copy in my downloads folder, ignoring the fact that the TW is in a
sub-folder of my downloads folder. Tried with several TW's and found the
same issue. file-backups used to be working fine with FF versions less than
60+. Any clues? Has anybody else is experiencing the same issue?

Alfonso

Mark,

It used to work fine with FF versions up to 59+, though improperly with
v60+.
It doesn't save to the C:\downloads\tiddlywikilocations (this is the folder
set). It only saves to C:\downloads, and also it doesn't save backups.

I played extensively with settings, uninstalled and installed back the
add-on, and the issue persisted.

[tw5] Is it time to have separate groups in TiddlyWiki? A User, not Developer, perspective

2018-05-09 Thread Alfonso Arciniega
First thing first: Tremendous thanks to everyone that contributes to this
group. The amount of time and effort seems incredible to me. Keep up the
great work!

Now, I am not a developer. I am a user. I am an engineer with very limited
knowledge of TW coding. I do not have too much time to learn TW because I
work 8 hours a day and have a family to attend afterward. At the most, I
try very hard to catch up with the hundreds of new posts every week. It
would take more than an hour a day to get familiar with the content of each
new post. I am feeling the pain (i.e. very frustrated) because I cannot get
up to speed with all the great postings.

I strongly suggest to the community to separate TW into several groups. I
know we have a Developers group, though many of developing posts are posted
in this group. For example, we can add two additional groups called: Issues
and Production (final names can be decided later). The content of each
group could be:
TW Developers: Core TW, Code, Plugins, Macros, Applications, etc.
(discussion and requests for new stuff)
TW Issues: Errors, User issues, Network issues, etc. (discussion and
requests for fixing stuff)
TW Production: Final posting of Core TW, Plugins, Macros, Apps, etc. (no
discussion here, this group is for users mostly, not developers)

Of course, there will be pros and cons to this separation. However, this
will benefit users enormously. Users will be able to get the good stuff
without the need to go over hundreds of posts; they will find solutions
faster without having to ask the same question over and over again,
overpopulating this group; TW family would expand faster by attracting
users with limited knowledge of coding (that do not have too much time to
learn the intricacies of TW language).

I understand I am writing for developers mostly, and suggesting this change
has probably been discussed (and rejected?) more than once in the past. I
am asking to reconsider, and think primarily about expanding the number of
users. I believe TW has become mature enough to become a starting point of
several excellent applications. We have plenty of end-user application
ideas though we spend too much time tunning up code for our own use instead
of creating generic applications or off-the-shelve solutions that may need
small tunning.

The following is an example of how a concerted developer effort may attract
many more users: the Cardo TW app, which has its own Google group by the
way. It is a good app though not great. I still cannot adopt it in its
current status (still using mGSD Classic TW). There is only one developer
for this app which apparently is busy and does not have the (free) time to
carry on with further development. IMHO, there should be several developers
collaborating and making this a great app that can put TW on a different
level, much better than other commercial applications (think: Remember the
Milk, Things, Wunderlist, Trello, etc.)

>From the developer perspective: Developers will be able to create wealth by
charging to end Users for services (fine tuning, debugging, creating
systems, etc.) on the TW applications. Think something similar to the Linux
family of operating systems, of the IBM network service systems. The only
app that I know that makes some money is Quine. There should be many more.
You guys need to make money; it's not a bad thing. A Production group (not
necessarily a Google group, it could be a completely separate web site)

[tw] Re: [TW5] MyMenus Plugin - forshadowing

2018-01-30 Thread Alfonso Arciniega
Great idea, Tony!

The MyMenus stylesheet plugin will be very helpful to everyone, in my
opinion.

Like many people out there, I am one of those folks that a) don't know the
language of TW5 enough to customize my TW's, and; b) don't have the time to
learn the language except for very basic formatting, editing, saving. I am
sure I am not the only one with this time constraint issue; and I believe *this
like to time to learn the TW5 way of customizing is one of the main issues
for widespread adopting of TW5 by the general public*. There are lots of
useful resources, no doubt about it, though not many people has the time to
peruse them. I am for the MISS concept here, no apologies.

Therefore, I have a request in addition to your idea. Maybe you already
thought about it though I don't know, so here it goes.

In addition to your list, I would like the plugin to be able to change
styles in an easy way (note I am talking about "styles" here, not
"themes"). Also adding a "checkbox" capability to the plugin to perform the
changes. Below are, in no particular order, a few examples (some of them
may be already implemented in the empty.html):

1. Change the position of menus (above the sidebar, top of page, bottom of
page)
2. Hide/show main menus
3. Have "Accordion" and "Drop-down" menus
4. Hide/show "Breadcrumbs" or "Tab" menus
5. Change the location of sidebars (left/right)
6. Hide/show "Edit" and "View" menus
7. Hide/show some of the sidebar menus
8. Change the position of title/subtitle
9. Change the type and size of fonts, separate options for the "Story View"
and the "Toolbars"
10. Change the colour of fonts/background
11. Add the capability to make the changes somewhat permanent, like
cookies, for each TW
12. Optional: a simple hover menu that does not use complicated icons
(simpler than Saqlmtiaz's lewcid site in TWC)

The above menu features should work with the original "Snow White" and
"Vanilla" themes; without messing with icon based menus or other
complicated features. I believe more people would adopt TW5 if they see
basic customization of original themes be done easily than rich feature and
colorful themes. So no theme customization, just menus within current
stylesheets.

Alfonso

With FF portable you may also use as many profiles as you want:

There's also FF ESR portable versions in 17 languages if preferred:

I am using portable versions out of an USB at my office for many years now,
due to being prohibited to install anything on my work PC, with no issues

[tw] Re: TiddlyDesktop

2017-11-17 Thread Alfonso Arciniega
Iain and Mark,

   1. Firefox Portable Legacy 36_3.6.28 (FPL) is noticeable faster than
   TiddlyDesktop and does not have any issues with TWC;
   2. FPL may be used portable (even running from an USB is faster that TW
   Deskop installed locally), and occupies less than half the size;
   3. FPL is able to run some TWC plugins that TiddlyDesktop cannot (e.g.
   LessBackupsPlugin by Simon Baird)
   4. My two TWC TW's are version 2.8.1; upgrading them to 2.9.0 beta 3
   won't do anything;

I tried converting my two large and highly customized Gething Things Done
(mGSD) TW's to TW5 Cardo 1.0. However, I believe Cardo is still in
development. This task would be too much effort for half the gain at this
point in time; maybe in the future.

On Firefox 57.0, it works though not straightforward. I always the

[tw] Re: TiddlyDesktop

2017-11-17 Thread Alfonso Arciniega
For everyone that still use TWC, I recommend do not use TiddlyDesktop (any
version).

I use TWC daily due to a couple of TW's that cannot be converted to TW5
TW's due to the extensive use of customization and plugins and large amount
of data.

The best solution to me is to have a portable version of an old version of
FF for exclusive use of these TWC TW's. This version is very small, super
fast, does not messes with other programs or options, and may run out of an
USB. The only caveats are that it cannot be run with another FF version at
the same time, and cannot open TW5 TW's.

Download the FF portable, almost any language you want, from:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/Mozilla%20Firefox%2C%20Portable%20Ed./Mozilla%20Firefox%2C%20Portable%20Edition%203.6.28/

You may also want to visit:

DSynchronize works pretty good for me. I am synchronizing the

work on my iPhone/iPad anytime, anywhere.

The interface is fine. What does the "Open Dashboard" do? It does nothing

Thank you very much, Mario,

Tested FF 57.0 on Windows 10. No issues.

The next step is installing DSynchronize from:

then set up an automatic synchronization with my favourite cloud service
directory, and lastly do the same at my other PC devices.

[tw] Re: FirefoxESR is best option for TiddlyWiki now -- Action & Opinion

2017-07-09 Thread Alfonso Arciniega
Thanks for your input, Josiah,

Allow me to further explain. All you need to do is download an updated
Unbranded every time a new version comes up; up and until version 56, which
will be more advanced and secure than the current ESR v.52 anyways. When
the official FF v.57 comes out, you may have two versions of FF, the
Unbranded v.56 and all the official FF v.57 and beyond (and also the ESR
v.52 as well, why not). Note that you may have both versions if you just
unzip the Unbranded (just don't try to run both at the same time).

At the end, we do not know yet if the Unbranded version, which now allows
every extension you throw at it, would be limited to Web Extensions.
Hopefully it will keep allowing all sorts of extensions for at least a year
or so. Note that this is not an official FF version just because it allows
significant customization and is directed at the testing of extensions, not
for regular use. There is absolutely no support or responsibility from FF
if things go wrong, but if you use it just for TW for FF, nothing could go
wrong as it is the same code as the official FF.

You cannot find Unbranded promoted anywhere; and I found the link to
download it by chance. Why not take advantage of this? Go and try it for
yourself.

Cheers,

Alfonso

[tw] Re: FirefoxESR is best option for TiddlyWiki now -- Action & Opinion

2017-07-06 Thread Alfonso Arciniega
The best option to me is Unbranded Nightly Firefox, by far. I am using it
for over two months now and it is working as a charm. I am using the 32-bit
version even if I have 64-bit Windows, to be able to run any extension I
want. Running version 54.0 now, though you have to upgrade it manually as
unbranded versions do not upgrade by themselves. Just the fact that this
version is up-gradable makes it a better option than ESR.

Try it for yourself. Go to:
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Add-ons/Extension_Signing
<https://www.google.com/url?q=https%3A%2F%2Fwiki.mozilla.org%2FAdd-ons%2FExtension_Signing=D=1=AFQjCNGMaS-GMNWx2IBP8O-Sc_Y7JHgIRQ>
Go down the page until you see "Unbranded Builds"

If you do not want to install it, you may want to try it out running from
an USB:
Unzipping the .exe file (extracting it with 7-Zip) produces a setup file
and a directory with all the FF files. Copy the core directory to your USB
or any directory of your preference.
Close your regular FF and open the FF version in your USB. That's it.
Most extensions, including TW for Firefox 2.0.2 should work.
You may want to keep both versions of FF.

Have fun!

[tw] Re: [TW5] Saving to Tiddlyspot Issues

2017-04-27 Thread Alfonso Arciniega
Did a bit more testing.

I believe the issue is not related to TiddlyWiki 5.1.14.

I downloaded a copy of my TS TW doc, edited it a bit, entered the password
back again so next time I saved the TW doc it was supposed to be uploaded
to TS.

Saving the TW doc with TW 5.1.13 or 5.1.14 in Unbranded Firefox Nightly
52.0 (32-bit) only produced a downloaded tiddlywiki.html doc. Previously
tried in regular latest Firefox 32-bit as well without success. All the
Firefox versions are portable though allowing cache savings to the disk
drive.

Saving it with Chrome 57.0 (64-bit) only downloaded a copy of my TW doc.
Chrome is configured as local with full access (not portable).

Saving it with TiddlyDesktop uploaded my TW docs to TS fine.

My environment is Windows 7 Enterprise v6.1 with all the latest upgrades.

[tw] [TW5] Saving to Tiddlyspot Issues

2017-04-26 Thread Alfonso Arciniega
Is anybody else facing the following issue?

Saving a Tiddlyspot document directly after editing it online works fine.

Today I wanted to upgrade them to TW 5.1.14 (thanks Jeremy and all
contributors!).

I deleted the Tiddlyspot password and saved the document in my local drive.
Then upgraded the document from 5.1.13 to 5.1.14. So far so good.

Afterwards I put the password back to upload the upgraded document to
Tiddlyspot. It did not work on Firefox (v53, TiddlyFox 2.0.1) nor on
Chrome. Tried on TiddlyDesktop 0.0.8 it it worked!

[tw] Re: TiddlyFox seemed to stop working

2017-04-24 Thread Alfonso Arciniega
For all the users having issues with extensions: I found a temporary
solution that is working as a charm.

Instead of Firefox ESR, Firefox Developer, or any old Firefox version, I
prefer to use Unbranded Firefox, a Nightly version of Firefox that allows
unsigned extensions.

See my previous message about this:
https://groups.google.com/d/msg/tiddlywiki/lDICVyMNAPY/Tlvl1tnRAQAJ

Then, in the FAQ section of the same page I referred to in the message
indicated above, do as it says:

What are my options if I want to install unsigned extensions in Firefox?

   - The Nightly <https://nightly.mozilla.org/> versions of Firefox have a
preference to disable signature enforcement. There are also be special
unbranded
   versions of Release and Beta
   <https://wiki.mozilla.org/Add-ons/Extension_Signing#Unbranded_Builds>
that have this preference, so that add-on developers can work on their
add-ons without having to sign every build. To disable signature checks,
you will need to set the xpinstall.signatures.required preference to
   "false".
  - type about:config into the URL bar in Firefox
  - in the Search box type xpinstall.signatures.required
  - double-click the preference, or right-click and selected "Toggle",
  to set it to false.

I also liked the Unbranded version because I was able to simply unzip it
and use it without installation, it appears to be faster even if running it
from an USB, and you can basically install any extension you want.

Hope this helps,

Alfonso Arciniega

[tw] Unbranded Firefox (Nightly)

2017-04-07 Thread Alfonso Arciniega
By chance, I found a "different" version of FF that works great with TW5
and TW Classic, and has no issues with TiddlyFox or any other extension for
that matter.

I am using the 32-bit version of Firefox Unbranded, which is compatible
with any extension you may want to install, even if the extension is not
signed by the Firefox. Moreover, I am using it as portable from a USB.

It is not an official Firefox though, so you may want to use it for
developing TiddlyWiki documents/plugins, but maybe not for day-to-day web
browsing. More testing required, I think.

This is what I did: Downloaded the latest Unbranded release build FF
Windows 32-bit version from:
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Add-ons/Extension_Signing
(have not tried Linux/Mac OS versions yet)

Unzipping the .exe file (extracting it with 7-Zip) produced a setup file
and a directory with all the FF files. Changed the name of the directory
and copied to a USB.
Started FF from that directory, installed TiddlyFox. That's it.

Hola de nuevo, it's me again.

The issue persists. I even tried with Tiddly Desktop v008 and get the same
error, so the browser is not the culprit. I only get this issue with
Noteself (all my other TiddlyWiki documents work fine.

The online version works fine though. However, the issue I have with the
online version is that, as you clearly mention in the Note Self website, it
serves a selfish interest–it is for my eyes only–and the document cannot be
shared with others. That is why I wanted the offline version to work for me.

Beautiful poster!

Now, here is another idea. Would it be possible to inverse the background
colours (black = white and vice-versa) and some minor adjustments and make
wallpapers for different monitor resolutions? Would anyone there would like
to have such wallpaper image?

[tw] Re: Announcing TiddlyDesktop v0.0.4

2015-01-13 Thread Alfonso Arciniega
Hi Jeremy,

I ran into one issue with this v0.0.4 in Windows 7: the application does
not close properly (after you click the X, you still may see nw.exe in the
Windows Task Manager). I found no way to open the application again until I
open Task Manager and end the process manually.

Cheers,

Alfonso

This release includes a major reworking of the internals of TiddlyDesktop.
It's really a bit early for general release, but we need feedback to
improve it. Please use it with great caution, and consider reverting to
v0.0.3 if you run into any problems.

 Download it here:

 https://github.com/Jermolene/TiddlyDesktop/releases/tag/v0.0.4

Please report any problems or suggestions here or via GitHub.

 ! New Features

 * Warning message when closing windows with unsaved changes (TWC and TW
 5.1.8 and above only)
 * Help window
 * Toolbar for TiddlyWiki windows
 * Reveal original file in Finder/Explorer
 * Automatic backups

Note that there is currently no way to hide the toolbar for TiddlyWiki
windows. This will be remedied soon!

 ! New Architecture

TiddlyDesktop itself is now an instance of the Node.js edition of
TiddlyWiki. TiddlyWiki HTML files are run within embedded, sandboxed
iframes with the backstage TiddlyWiki providing services such as saving
 to the file system.

The advantage of this approach is that the user interface and
functionality of the desktop application can now be customised and extended
with exactly the same techniques that are used in regular TiddlyWiki.

 !! Coming Soon

The functionality of this release barely matches that of the previous
v0.0.3 version, but it lays the groundwork for a number of other features
 such as

 * configurable toolbars
 * hyperbookmarklets
 * page zoom
 * creating new wikis from standard editions and custom templates
 * dragging `_canonical_uri` links from the file system
 * multiple languages
 * one-click copying of text to the clipboard from within TiddlyWiki
 * global keyboard shortcut for clipping content
 etc.

In doing this work on TiddlyDesktop over the last three weeks I've found
the answer to the question of its purpose: it is to provide a hosting
environment for TiddlyWiki documents that is as fertile to customisation,
extension and sharing as TiddlyWiki itself. Given the funding, I'd love for
this to preface the development of a smartphone/tablet app with similar
functionality. Is that something people would be interested in?

 Best wishes

 Jeremy.

Re: [tw] [TW5] Spanish Translation

2015-01-04 Thread Alfonso Arciniega
Jeremy,

Completed review of Paulus' translation in the prerelease 5.1.8 version.
Made perhaps more changes than anticipated though I am more confident with
the translation now. See:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/51743913/es-ESTranslation_r3.html

The tiddler that needs to be updated is GettingStarted, as it contains the
default tiddlers. Additionally, the GettingStarted tiddler needs to be
translated as well, doesn't it? In TiddlyWiki Classic the translation was
ParaEmpezar.

Regards,

Alfonso

Re: [tw] [TW5] Spanish Translation

2014-12-29 Thread Alfonso Arciniega
Hi Jeremy, Paulus,

Paulus, you did a great translation job. We concur almost 100%, with only
minor differences in exceptions/interpretations though with the same
meaning.

Jeremy, I will take a look at Paulus' translation for any important
grammar/spelling issues only, leaving the rest as it is.

The one tiddler that I had difficulty translating is the subtitle of the
empty TiddlyWiki: a non-linear personal web notebook
Do you want to emphasize personal, notebook, web, or non-linear.
From a marketing point of view, I am not sure what is more important to get
more users into using TiddlyWiki. IMO, I would default to subtitle to a
wiki notebook for everyone or a personal wiki or a wiki based notebook
or something else, depending on the emphasis. Why would potential new
*(non-developer/programmer-knowledgeable)* users be interested in using
TiddlyWiki? Is TiddlyWiki trying to compete with other wiki applications or
trying to be something totally different, a friendly alternative for the
masses? Both Paulus and my translation of the subtitle into Spanish,
although both are different but correct at the same time, may not be the
most attractive phrases for the purposes explained above.

Cheers,

Alfonso Arciniega

Re: [tw] [TW5] Spanish Translation

2014-12-27 Thread Alfonso Arciniega
Completed TW5 translation of strings into Spanish using Jeremy's
instructions as above, with the exception of the strings in the Palette
Colours section which IMO it probably does not make sense to translate.
The TW5 5.1.5-prerelease version is at:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/51743913/es-ESTranslation2.html

I had several issues with corruption of the file during the translation,
specifically the view or theme; glad I was making backups every once in a
while. If someone wants to look at one of the corrupted files, it is also
available here:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/51743913/es-ESTranslation.html
I did not upgrade the file to the latest version 5.1.7 for being afraid of
facing more issues. Maybe someone would like to investigate why the file
theme turned into a mess all of a sudden.

Coming back to the good news, now we need to incorporate the translation
into the latest version and create a proper Spanish version. Sorry I cannot
help with this (GitHub is not my cup of tea). I will do another review of
the translation once I get my hands on the Spanish 5.1.7 (or later)
version, as it will need a few changes for sure. Help from other Spanish
spoken people in this group is welcome.

Regards and best wishes for 2015,

Alfonso

[tw] [TW5] Spanish Translation

2014-10-23 Thread Alfonso Arciniega
Hi there,

As suggested by Xavier Cazin, I tried to follow the steps described here:
http://tiddlywiki.com/dev/#How%20to%20create%20a%20translation%20for%20TiddlyWiki

I am afraid the instructions are extremely difficult to follow, unless you
are very familiar with GitHub and Node.js, which I am not. I managed to go
through the instructions all the way to instruction #8 until I gave up. The
main issues for me are:

Re instruction #4 Create a sibling directory /MyTranslation/jermolene.github.io
, what does create a sibling directory mean?
I did copy all the folders/files from the clone \mytranslation\TiddlyWiki5
to \mytranslation\jermolene.github.io. Is this what #4 is asking to do?

Re #9 Run ../build.jermolene.github.io/quick-bld.sh to build TiddlyWiki
http://tiddlywiki.com/dev/#TiddlyWiki, I have no idea what to do here.

Finally, is it possible that I just go straight to #12 Edit the .tid and
.multids files in your language folder to translate the English text,
(using Notepad++) and someone else put everything together? Note that I
already created a plugin.info (instruction #7) and edited tiddlywiki.info
(instruction #8). After translation, I can zip all files and send them out
to somebody that can incorporate the changes to jermolene.

Please advise,

Alfonso Arciniega
