Hi Charlie --

Yep, still troubleshooting. I'm going to need to use this thread for more
test posts over time.

Please just use this thread if you want to make a test post, then others
can mute this thread and not be bothered by it.

Thanks for the kind words, Saq. It's been great working with you and Jeremy

I'd really like some open discussion around how the TiddlyWiki community
can use and rally around Open Collective. I'm personally _very_ inspired by
the organization and the promise it has over time -- and where it is at
today. Their recent blog post is a very good

I'll quote part of the post:

*Technology Owned by the People*
*Open Collective is part of a movement for start-ups and tech platforms
become to become owned by their users and stakeholders, called “exit to
community” or E2C. Learn more about this community interested in community
control and governance here. We don’t know exactly what the future holds,
but OCF, grounded in perspectives of solidarity, will be a key influence on

In short, I've been working with open source software and communities for 2
decades now. I'm more convinced than ever that we can "Build Software
Together" and that Open Collective is a tool that can be used by
communities to pool funds towards common goals.

This experiment with the file uploads plugin has lead directly to having
Saq spend time working on a more solid foundation for core TW architecture.
Can we continue this? Can we get more small and large projects and people

Thanks so much for your contribution! I think I need to create a NodeJS saver

At the risk of slightly changing subjects, I don't know if the Fission thing
could ever enable a multi-simultaneous-user environment (like BOB), but that's
something I really *would* and *have* financially contributed to in the past. :)

Yes, once Fission itself supports shared files, then TiddlyWiki on Fission
could easily support multi user.

This Google Docs Style collaborative editing functionality is very hard to
implement, but generally we’re seeing new tech arise so that it can be a
building block that more apps can include. Like Joshua’s usage of Yjs.

Fission helps read / write files to the IPFS global network. With the
TiddlyWiki on Fission code that Jeremy has written, anyone can host editions
that new users can just start using without running a server.

I’ve funded the IPFS saver that works with Fission as the first step.

I will say that I now use node.js and do miss this feature of BOB - it's very
helpful!

The plan is for Saq to build this to be part of core.

If you want to have a NodeJS saver — help fund Saq and say you want NodeJS
prioritized.

This has the promise to be a very interesting avenue of development for
TiddlyWiki users, even for those not interested in using TiddlyWiki on Fission
at the moment.

A frequently discussed limitation with using TiddlyWiki is that embedding
images and other files leads to very large and unwieldy file sizes. The basic
idea here is to develop support in TiddlyWiki so that when you import an image
or another file, it is uploaded to external storage backends (think Amazon S3,
Webnative IPFS, Github pages, Google Drive etc), and just save a tiddler in the
TiddlyWiki pointing to those files.

The workflow might look something like this:
* configure your wiki via a settings tab in the control panel to upload images
to a storage backend of your choice that you have access to.
* drag and drop an image to import.
* the image is uploaded to your specified storage
* a canonical_uri tiddler is created pointing to that image.
* You can now include the image in any of your tiddlers by just including the
canonical_uri tiddler. However, the image is not stored in your TiddlyWiki and
inflating its file size.
I've previously worked on a prototype of a plugin that does something similar
for node.js and saves the images to the local file system. Thanks to Boris'
support, I'll be able to dedicate the time to build on that work and the goal
for the first version of this plugin will be to allow uploading files to
Webnative IPFS when using TiddlyWiki on Fission. As far as possible, I will try
to make the mechanism pluggable and usable with other storage backends, for
which support can be added at a later date.

By getting involved now, you have the opportunity to support and influence the
design and implementation of this feature, as well as the implementation of
support for other backends.
Regards,
Saq

Re: [tw5] [RFC] Sponsored development of tiddlywiki tools and solutions?

2021-05-26 Thread Boris Mann
I got all the video stuff uploaded and managed to ACTUALLY post a mail
message announcing this funding after Joshua stole my thunder :P -->
https://groups.google.com/g/tiddlywiki/c/21yCCLI0E7s

OpenCollective is a pretty great tool and very flexible. Some background:
Jeremy and I agreed to experiment under the "TiddlyWiki on Fission" project
name to not have to commit to having a fully "TiddlyWiki" branded open
collective all in one go -- to let us experiment a bit. The nice thing is
... if there IS interest in helping to administrate this and build around
it, it COULD be transformed into a core TiddlyWiki funding destination.

If you look at the main project page, there are some membership / backer
tiers there right at the
top: https://opencollective.com/tiddlywiki-on-fission

The new file upload core plugin that Saq is going to work on is a separate
project, lower down the page, and also has its own link and can set its own
rewards:
https://opencollective.com/tiddlywiki-on-fission/projects/tiddlywiki-file-upload

-- It has a one-time goal, a company sponsorship tier, and we'll plan to
add additional goal for different kinds of backends / savers.

Also, on the "Fission collective pot" -- my idea for that is that backers
would help determine who and what to fund. It really can be run as a
collective.

Tones -- this perhaps doesn't quite address your needs. With the
marketplace that Jeremy suggested, we might surface patreons (or other
channels) to directly support creators and contributors. OpenCollective and
the community rallying might take a little longer.

I've worked with a lot of open source focused creators and consultants, so
I'm also happy to chat with you directly. If anyone ever wants to talk
about anything related to open source, licensing, community contributions
and so on, I'm happy to connect --> pick a time in my calendar and we'll
have a chat https://calendly.com/borismann/global

It may also be helpful to schedule a live video meeting to cover some of
these community topics. Let me know how else I can help!

Hello Mohammad!

Use Fission Drive to upload files. I’ll add some messaging to the home page
about that.

Go to https://drive.fission.codes and click on Public. You can drag and drop
any TiddlyWiki HTML file to upload.

Also a good thing to make a screencast about!

great! And, like all things TW, it's easily customizable.

I added in Dave Gifford's recent Customizer plugin video. Cool!
Two questions:

1) Tips on using Help Panel?

Anyone using it more "in the wild"? Customizations? Thoughts on how to use?

2) What if we had many more videos in there? What if it was easy for everyone
to create videos and have them appear in the Help Panel?

Specifically, just quick little screencasts even. I added Dave Gifford's recent
Customizer plugin video as an example
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rse3Cv6VRlI

I put mine on Vimeo, because they have a nice Chrome extension for screencasts
https://talk.fission.codes/t/1767/2

I'm thinking that something super simple, like a Github repo where a JSON file
can be maintained / published with video content, and then "consumed" by the
Help Panel. There are probably tons of TW native ways of doing this if people
have suggestions :P The goal being fresher content right in people's TW

[tw5] Re: Experimenting with Help Panel

2021-04-01 Thread Boris Mann
OK, I cheated and managed to capture Jeremy demo'ing drag and drop this
morning https://talk.fission.codes/t/1767/3

And, since I'm mixing and matching YouTube and Vimeo videos, I edited Help
Panel to wrap the embed code for YouTube in a reveal. Set the embed to "0"
and just paste the embed code from whatever video service you're using in.

```
\define show-video(title)
<$reveal type="nomatch" state="$title$!!embed" text="0">
<$macrocall $name="show-video-inner" embed={{$title$!!embed}}/>
{{$title$!!text}}
\end
```

[tw5] Re: How to create a shared TiddlyWiki accessible from multiple machines?

2021-03-31 Thread Boris Mann
Thanks Joshua! We don't have multi-user yet in TiddlyWiki on Fission, which
is where it's really going to get interesting.

I had actually bookmarked this thread to share about my usage several years
ago of a really interesting Google App Engine solution written in GoLang
that used Google accounts to set login / permissions. It looks like it's
still maintained by the author https://github.com/rsc/tiddly

It is NOT easy to install / setup, as this is full on cloud devops that is
needed to setup and configure this. But, if you want to use it as a
business, and use the Google Accounts at your business to control access,
this totally does work.

[tw5] Experimenting with Help Panel

2021-03-30 Thread Boris Mann
I'm slowly putting together a "Fission Edition" to teach myself how to put
Editions together, and to have some interesting Core + Plugins + Content
curated and targeted at those new to TiddlyWiki.

I'm working my way through all the Core plugins and found Help Panel. It's

What if it was easy for
everyone to create videos and have them appear in the Help Panel?

Specifically, just quick little screencasts even. I added Dave Gifford's
recent Customizer plugin video as an
example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rse3Cv6VRlI

I put mine on Vimeo, because they have a nice Chrome extension for
screencasts https://talk.fission.codes/t/1767/2

I'm thinking that something super simple, like a Github repo where a JSON
file can be maintained / published with video content, and then "consumed"
by the Help Panel. There are probably tons of TW native ways of doing this
if people have suggestions :P The goal being fresher content right in
people's TW experience.

Re: [tw5] [REQUEST] Jeremy - questions about the Tiddlywiki-on-Fission funding campaign

2021-03-27 Thread Boris Mann
Hey all!

I wanted to chime in and say that this is an experiment. I suggested we
experiment with OpenCollective and Jeremy agreed as he stated. It's part
KickStarter, part community bank account.

It's labeled as "TiddlyWiki on Fission" I guess because we didn't
necessarily want to scope it to the whole project as an experiment. That is
open for discussion -- and depends on both the community and Jeremy. Do we
want to just call it TiddlyWiki OpenCollective? Who wants to help?

Roughly, this is how I see it working:

We'll look for features, plugins, and other work that people are interested
in funding. Right now there is just the monthly / annual backing buckets,
which is a financial vote that says "I like where this is going, I want to
see more like this!". We may add other perks -- e.g. I want to get some
stickers made if there is interest, and people who donate can get stickers
for free / use OpenCollective to pay for stickers.

We can then add an additional goal to the page. I'll use an example that
has been discussed before, created a TiddlyWiki Discourse forum.
Professional hosting for that is about $50 / month. So, we'd want to
collect at least $50 per month in ongoing contributions to pay for the
costs of that. All those costs are transparent and listed as part of the
platform.

Finally, the really interesting part (I think). Let's say there is a
feature like ExternalImages drag and drop plugin (I don't know if this
exists or not, so let's just say it doesn't). We can even ask ahead of time
who has time / interest to do it, and determine that we should raise $1000
to pay for the open source creation of this plugin. We raise the funds, and
a community member who is more developer oriented does the work. The
community has a new plugin that is available to all.

And this of course extends to documentation, design, or any other aspects.
Can we enable people who need to be able to commit time away from their day
job to do paid TW work at a small scale? Could the community start funding
a part time position on an ongoing basis to focus on the software,
community tooling, or other aspects? Where in the world would $500USD /
month be a way to have TiddlyWiki as someone's "day job"?

I had hoped we would dig into this a bit more live on the community call
but we covered a lot. If people are interested, I'm happy to host a call
just on this topic.

So as it turned out, I messed up the recording and didn’t capture Jeremy’s demo.

But — we’ll get a proper recording next week during the community call.

The video from last month is available
https://talk.fission.codes/t/tiddlywiki-on-fission-announcement-demo-with-jeremy/1596
 — Jeremy has made a lot of progress since then.

covering Jeremy's latest work, these other the topics we're proposing to
cover:

   - *Including Editions in TiddlyWiki on Fission:* do you have an edition
or would you like to make an edition that is included in the default bundle?
   - *Launching your own TiddlyWiki apps:* can Fission help more of you
   create custom Editions for people?
   - *Desired plugins, improvements, or new features: *what are often
requested features you'd love to see?
   - *Community Funding with Open Collective:* Jeremy and I have created an
   OpenCollective . It's
live now, consider it an experiment and open for any and all discussions.
The goal would be to pool funds and hire people in the community to
   implement features over time.

Any other topics you'd like to discuss or questions you'd like to ask,
please reply here or come add them as a comment in the forum

.

[tw5] TiddlyWIki on Fission, new saver & host - live video chat tomorrow

2021-02-17 Thread Boris Mann

Hi everyone!

I wanted to introduce myself. I’m the founder of Fission, which is an app
publishing platform that is open source and “serverless”, where we make
everything work in the browser. I’ve also used and tinkered with TiddlyWiki
for many years.

I’m working with Jeremy to add support for our webnative SDK to TiddlyWiki,
so that people can use it as a saver that should work anywhere that you
have access to a browser, including on mobile.

We also want to talk to anyone that wants to host / run customized
TiddlyWikis or Editions. Our goal with Fission is to empower digital
creators to run their own apps, including selling them to people, without
having to build an entire SaaS platform.

The TiddlyWiki forum on the Fission Discourse
 is where we’re going to
be discussing features and functions, plus I’ll be here in the Google Group
as well.

I’d like to invite you all to come to a live video chat tomorrow, Feb 18th,
at 9am PST / 12pm EST / 1800 CET. You can sign up here to attend Fission
Demo Day Feb 2021 - Zoom

P.S. If you stop by the forum, say hello to Flag Cat
,

the first mascot for TiddlyWiki + Fission.
