Thank you!!

@JN

it provides access to the "backend"

Yeah, I left it out intentionally so as to let new people take away if they
feel there is anything worth it.

can this be done?

I do not see why not.

Hi Riz-

All are valued comments.
And you are right - the basics are achieved in what I have mapped out - and
you have addressed.

Tags ARE used in a few ways - check out the Spiritual Quest ebook which
provides an insight into much of what will be used elsewhere -
ReadOnly, different use of tags, navigation ( upgrading to the use of
FontAwesome, embedded fonts, audio, video, padlet etc)

No, there is no need for "ebook" tags - examples of tags *that work the
same as categories and tags within wordpress* : ( for the Directory site(s)
:

   - LOCATIONS : Suburb / township / postcodes
   - PRODUCTS / SERVICES : Food Service and supply, Accommodation,
Entertainment, Sports, Retail, Relaxation, Trades etc
   - ALSO tagged " Eat | Drink | Stay | Play | Buy | Enjoy | Repair | etc
   - PREMISES : Winery, Brewery, Retailer, Hotel, Nightclub, Cafe, Spa,
Sports Club, Social Club, NFP etc

Hi "magev958" - I have seen that amazing reformat of TW. It has provided
me inspiration. Thanks. It doesn't suit my current formats as it provides
access to the "backend" which I do NOT want - as the integrity of the app /
ebook / site that it presents to users needs to have interaction but not
reformatting . would like to keep lines of communications open with you
as there ARE many elements I would like to ask you about. You and almost
everyone in this forum has far greater skills than I possess. I just have a
market and ideas that fufill their needs and TW can do so much..

The Sidebar comment was just that - an observation that the finalised

ReadOnly transference.

I can provide you my guides on how I achieve all elements within the ebooks I
am creating - as stated - better to have your direct email for that when that
time comes   ;-)

Sidebar Contents / Options are NOT used in any of my projects

I remember your last Ebook project had Sidebar hidden. Well, since you already
achieved that , I assume you do not need my inputs on how to hide sidebar
permanently for such a project.

Still for the sake of any noobs after me, here are two different ways this can
be achieved.

1) Create a new stylesheet tiddler with the following CSS code
.tc-sidebar-scrollable {display:none}

2) Hide the Sidebar as you would do normally. Then via advanced search, find
the tiddler "$:/core/ui/TopBar/menu" and remove the tag "$:/tags/TopRightBar"
from it.
This will basically hide access to button that will reveal/hide Sidebar.

Note: Second method is more flexible. If you are using that, you can have
secret buttons somewhere user cannot access which will reveal the Sidebar.

NoTimeStamp will usually be deployed - ie no date seen

Where? The timestamps in the subtitles can easily be hidden. As for the title
of New Journal appearing with Timestamp by default, you can change that. In the
test wiki I sent you, find the tiddler named NewJournal - which is a minimal
clone of the default New Journal button - and within it change the
title=<> value to anything you please to have a placeholder text, say
title="Enter your title here"

Tags ARE visible in other chapters & understood for their use ( see SQuest
ebook as example )

So I guess you do not want your chapters to have a tag called "EBook"?

Ok, so this is an issue. In a scenario like this, where tags are part of
interface, we cannot have a common tag based on which we can hide the controls.
A manual solution to this - ughh- is to specify each Chapter tag specifically
in stylesheet and hide the controls. But that is not at all a solution.

There is a theoretical solution to this, which is to apply styles based on
fields. If I understand it correctly, tags appear as class and fields appear as
attributes of the element in the TW html file. Based on this, I tried the
attribute selector function. Let us say, tiddler named "Chapter 1" has a field
called "fruit" with value "mango".
So If I use the syntax on the attribute selector

[fruit="mango"] {
font-size:3em;
}

or

div[fruit="mango"] {
font-size:3em;
}

It ought to work. It doesn't. I hope someone with a clearer understanding of
CSS or TW5 will come around and enlighten.

If you want to see Adding notes and bookmarking function in a little more
fancier environment, try https://ibnishak.github.io/hQp/
[https://ibnishak.github.io/hQp/]. Pick a chapter, then an author, under the
translation, there will be a hamburger menu which will enable the user to add
notes, bookmark that part, jump to the other parts of the chapter from there
and see the notes added regarding that specific part.

Hey Riz

got it
thanks
that works - though there are some bits that would need attention:

BELOW I've copied from the notes I made ON that tiddler/ journal entry -
done live in the tiddler.

I hope the HTML file comes thru -

here's the notes :

*JN NOTES *

*Sidebar Contents / Options are NOT used in any of my projects - so
disregard it's visibility or access for users/readers - alternative methods
are used ...*
*Tags ARE visible in other chapters & understood for their use ( see SQuest
ebook as example )*

*NoTimeStamp will usually be deployed - ie no date seen *

*User CAN suitably name (title) + save their journal / notes tiddlerEntry
of their notes should be intuitive and not need guidance.( though a tiddler
could provided *

*"advanced" guidance for optimising eg - links etc - internal and external*
*User
SHOULD tag their tiddler for later search as that is the only way in which
they can find what they've written - - unless a pre-created linked tiddler
lists tags for "Notes" "Journal" and "Comments" *

*THAT WOULD NEED EXPLANATION in creating and searching tags *

*It would be preferable to NOT display FIELD boxes of Type, Name and Value*

again thanks Riz
we should talk soon, !

2016-10-04 Thread John Newell

*Hi Riz, ( and Josiah )*
As this series of tw ebooks/ apps are ALL created *without *user saving
options
I would only need a save button on the Journal / Notes tiddler - which you
(Riz) suggested.
An elegant and simple way to have a dynamic page where the user can add
their notes, journal entries etc

With all Page Toolbar Buttons removed in the ReadOnly conversion process -
I would need to independently ADD an EDIT and SAVE button just to that one
tiddler -
which is what I am asking if anyone knows how to do this.

Josiah - you may be right - perhaps "nobody will bother"
but I have greater faith and determination in getting tiddlywiki out there
to a wider, appreciative market.
I hope I find support within
My clear preference is to have a *native tiddlywiki solution* to this
but if that isn't possible here - I will look to engage someone to assist
in this
and there are other "embedded" options that work well as an alternative to
this specific inclusion
such as ( https://goo.gl/XDfKu9 ) -
clean and robust within a tiddler.

I currently am embedding a raft of external resources anyway - including
soundcloud, youtube, padlet, twitter, facebook, evernote, linkedin, etc
( particularly deep and rich in the Directory edition I am working on )

cheers
John

ciao John & Riz

as far as I understand TW architecture Riz is correct. Its possible to
limit saving to user additions and prevent edits to defined core tiddlers.
Some informed' programmers could get round it. But doubt that would happen.
Why would they bother?

Not necessarily, since as and when the user saves his journal, the TW
autosaves. Plus, what harm is there is retaining the save button as long as
user does not have the ability to meddle with main content?

John,
Sorry for such a late reply.

So, see if this is what you plan to achieve.
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B6_7jBHr5dP-cklDdnZ3ZTRyWGM

It is not hosted, so you will have to download and see.

It has 5 sample chapters, for which there are no control buttons. On the
bottom right corner of each chapter is a New Journal Button, which will
open a New Journal, as usual tagged with chapter name, with all usual
controls.

The position of the New Journal button can be manipulated to place anywhere
in the chapter tiddler with CSS (the easy way but a little unreliable way)
or by change the order of list field in the main ViewTemplate manually.

Re: [tw] Journal/Notes Page for readers of TW ReadOnly vers. - Ideas sought. Access to Option provided to view & use.

2016-10-03 Thread John Newell
Hi Riz

I believe I get it - but in order to ensure that I do
Assuming the rest of the ebook is fine ...

In a ReadOnly situation - CAN I add a "New Journal" button :
- that opens a new tiddler
- that the (each) user can use and save - for themselves?

Wouldn't I need a save button?

If this is easy to create - could you create an otherwise blank TW and show
that to me ?

with thanks
John

2016-10-03 Thread Rizwan Ishak
Oh, no. I think I did not make myself clear. In order to give the reader
ability to add content while restricting them from editing the main content
- isn't it easier to just hide the title bar of the ebook content? Even
better, create a view template with just new tiddler or new journal button
while hiding the rest. This has the advantage of keeping the TW self
contained, rather than being dependant on an external site and expecting
the reader to be online?

Of course this will not prevent someone with know how of tiddlywiki from
hunting down that one shadow tiddler and reversing the effect, but hardly
anything will stop them.

Is there an obvious point I am missing here?

2016-10-03 Thread John Newell
Hi Riz

If you are referring directly to the 'sample' page titled 'Journal - Notes'
:
As a page/chapter within a TWeBook, I would appropriately title it so it is
visible (the reader would expect to have that identification of what
page/chapter they are at (and)

I remove the time-stamp beneath the title
(and)

Set the iframe height and width at 100%

Cheers John
