I have a modest (read sub-par) station but was thrilled to work 2 UK stations
and a score of NA. Most nights I need to go to 80 for Qs.
A 160 Activity Night (DX or not) could more occasionally light up the band!

It's so frustrating that you always hear hundreds of stations on Top Band
whenever there's a contest on, or when there's some DX-pedition active on
the band . . . yet most of the time the band is dead !
I find it even more frustrating that there's often people posting lots
stations that are on
Hmm, this last week was still hitting RBN over there, and worked G3OLB
two different days a little before his sunrise. One of those was a
long lovely old time 599 QSO with Tom, like I was working someone in
Ohio on 80 meters.
It might be "season" over, but 160 sure isn't over, at least not yet.

and we rarely have any thunderstorms causing QRN on the band until August.

Roger. My guess is that it is considered "season over" by most of the boys.
I rarely get on 160M after early April unless there is a specific DXpedition
on. I don't think I am alone.

The past few evenings all I've been noticed by are RBN, apart from a few
die-hard Top Banders like AA1K, K4IQJ and DU7ET.
These are some of the blokes who don't let a few summer atmospherics deter

But do I have any real contacts? No ! Because I guess there is no

You are about 600 km north of me. That is certainly a sufficient distance to
make a difference. Steve VK7CW is about 550 km south of me.
I forgot to mention, Wednesday morning around
VHF is fun, yes. But keep in mind that in the southern hemisphere it's
winter when we have our summer. And there are times in our summer when it's
quiet and we can work them on 160. :-)

hour and gave up with no calls, and only local RBN reporting.

I got home late (0100 UT) from a school band performance (grandkids!)
and found no activity to speak of. I hoped to find G3YRO but no luck.
QRN levels from lightning had dropped towards Europe but there was zilch
for activity. My fault that I did not stick around after 0230UT. I
Worked PJ5/SP2GCJ @0315 for a new one for me. OA4TT would have been a new one
too (I'm a newby). He was quite strong but the one time he replied to me he
didn't have my complete call, missing the "s", and he gave up and went back to
CQ very quickly (I thought).

Hmmm - local QRM (lights from nearby baseball field) made early evening copy
tough on CW, so I booted up WSJT-X and saw some EU stations there (5B4AIF was
steady copy, and some other EU stations would show up from time to time), from
0100-0200. Not the best conditions, but also not the worst.
Listening in AZ. nil so far. 0300Z
