Aha! Well at least you know what it is. Its not so great that its
broken, but you at least know what to get fixed.
I'm actually surprised that other devices still worked well with 4
volts across them. A couple volts will probably not affect most
outputs, but 4V is pretty large for most solid
One thing to check for is to make sure replay gain is turned off. You
access this with Settings-Audio Settings-Volume Adjustment. Make
sure No Volume Adjustment is selected.

Update:
I gave up trying to get the internal Touch server to work. I had no
energy to continue trying to troubleshoot after the many failed
attempts. I ended up installing squeezebox server on my downstairs PC
along with the music hard drive. That computer is hard wired to my
wireless router.
Boy do I know that feeling... Very disappointed!
