OK, some progress has been made:
The DAC DOES support DoP, as I can play one of my sample DSD64 dsf files
from my android phone, using HibyMusic. I can toggle on the fly,
between DoP, Native and PCM modes, barely hearing the very slightest
interruption to the stream as the signal switches.

Things have moved on now to a new question.
I received my new SMSL Sanskrit Pro B DAC just before the weekend and
the sound quality has certainly improved from the builtin DAC in my
surround receiver.
I can now play 192KHz flac

Really great to have this available again! After over a year of
suspecting that EDO might have been responsible for some spontaneous
reboots on my touch, I think I might finally have tracked the problem
down to the Triode alternative screen off screensaver... Still keeping
my fingers crossed,

I also use spotify, think it's the unofficial plugin, but can't remember
exactly from here. The behaviour was definitely not linked to any active
spotify session for me. Occurred apparently randomly irrespective of
what was currently playing or what had played last.

Is this normal or is it indicative of a bottleneck or cache problem
