  how i got that crash:

screensaver should start, but it never do)
  - usually moving the mouse or hitting the space bar awake the system, but
instead that crash happened

Bug description:
I downloaded and install 12.10 beta1 on my Dell Optiplex GX270, Pentium 4
running @ 2.60 gHz and 1.2 Gigs of memory. 12.10 beta1 started but the Desktop
did not start. There was an error message that compiz crashed. I opened the
system settings via desktop appearance (changed the wallpaper which worked). I
check my display settings for my monitor then checked for updates and installed
the updates. I re-started the computer and desktop doesn't appear.
I had a similar problem with the last updates from 12.10 alpha3 where there
was no desktop. On this computer I ran Unity 2D.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1407246] [NEW] [Satellite C50-A, Intel PantherPoint HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all

2015-01-03 Thread Bhupendra Siyag
Public bug reported:

Running dual-boot with Windows8. When I rebooted into Ubuntu, sound
didn't work at all. Reboot might fix the problem but I'd like to know
how to troubleshoot without rebooting.

Seems like a sound driver issue and I have some very important tiger
maulings to watch on youtube.

Thanks

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1240198] Re: [SRU]Wrong keyboard layout active after booting into desktop

2015-01-03 Thread FM33
Reproduced again this morning, but did not affect super-w shortcut. Also
new : numlock LED is off, but the function is on. Pressing it twice re-
enable it, but it goes off again after a few minutes.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

When first boot into Unity desktop, English keyboard layout is active
while all other parts of the system language settings are set to
  another language (e.g. German).

The bug is properly addressed in newer upstream releases in Vivid, but
the changes is too intrusive and not suitable for being back ported in
SRU. And changing the default to use system keyboard layout solves the
  problem.

  [Test Case]

  1. Set the system language to something other than English, e.g. German.
  2. Create a new user, log in to the Unity desktop of the new user.
  3. Check the keyboard layout, it should be German instead of English.

  [Regression Potential]

Since this changes the default value of the keyboard layout settings
by using system defined as default, it avoids using ibus's built-in
keyboard layout related functionality, so that this could be a
regression for users rely on this certain behavior (e.g. use English
keyboard while want to keep the system language settings to German),
but such behavior is not expected for normal usage.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 90085] Re: When /tmp is mounted noexec, preconfigure fails

2015-01-03 Thread John Paul Adrian Glaubitz
Please let the user decide if using a /tmp noexec mount point is more
secure or not.

That doesn't even make sense. It's a fact that mounting /tmp with
noexec doesn't give you any extra security simply because you can
simply circumvent it by invoking the executable with the help of the
dynamic Linux loader.

Anyone who wants to run an exploit can just run lib64/ld-
linux-x86-64.so.2 /tmp/bla instead of just /tmp/bla and it will just
work. For scripts, you just invoke them through their interpreter.

Adrian

  lynx https://www.cmw.osfc.state.oh.us

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1301125] Re: Lock screen after idle time freezes unity

2015-01-03 Thread chau
Hi,
I have the same problem. I installed the newest and updated Ubuntu 14 on my
Vaio S series two days ago.
The screen lock worked fine for a couple of times , but it froze after auto
locked out today.
After locked out, I can not see the password promt . Mouse still worked
Alt-Ctrl-Del bring up the [Suspend|Reboot|Power off] panel but was blured and I
could not click on them.

I had to switch to Console and do a lightdm restart.

Please fix this .

when the screen is locked by idle time, I cannot unlock it.

At this point, I can see the screen but with some kind of translucent
panel over it. Mouse also works. I tried to type blink the password
but I had no luck. I only get a working system by going text mode
(ctrl+alt+f1) and restarting lightdm. No dmesg or Xorg logs seems to
indicate any error. The only strange log was in .xsession-errors.old:

But as it has no time info, I cannot tell when they happened.

At least another user faces the same problem:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1407220] [NEW] clock is sometimes missing in notification area

2015-01-03 Thread Borim
Public bug reported:

After startup the clock in the notification area is sometimes missing.
It looks quite random when the clock is missing and when not.

The bug is similar to bug#1239710, but as comment #67 says. This bug is

A workaround for the bug is to kill the indicator-datetime. It will be

Bug description:
When running an up-to-date precise system with a
linux-image-generic-lts-raring HWE kernel (linux 3.8),
the precise verion of apparmor will deny all attempts of apparmored apps to
call the block_suspend system call:

  For example:
  type=AVC msg=audit(XX.XXX:X): apparmor=DENIED
operation=capable parent=1 profile=/usr/sbin/cupsd pid=1040 comm=cupsd
pid=1040 comm=cupsd capability=36  capname=block_suspend

But it is also impossible to add block_suspend to the apparmor profiles,
because the AppArmor parser does not know about it:
Setting /usr/sbin/cupsd to enforce mode.
Warning from stdin (line 1): /sbin/apparmor_parser: cannot use or update
cache, disable, or force-complain via stdin
AppArmor parser error, in stdin line 24: Invalid capability block_suspend.

This seems to make it impossible to have apparmor not deny block
suspend when using an LTS HWE kernel.

This seems to be related to bug #1052098.

  HOW TO REPRODUCE

  1. Connect a removable media to the computer.
  2. On the launcher, click on the Files icon.
  3. On the left sidebar, click on the removable media icon or the trash.
  4. Minimize the window.
  5. Click on the Files icon.

  EXPECTED BEHAVIOUR

  - The Files window to be maximized.

  REAL BEHAVIOUR

  - A new window is opened.

  RELEVANT DETAILS

  - One way to navigate between windows at this moment is to use the
control + tabulation key combination, or to click again on the
Files icon so windows are exposed.

Otherwise the minimized window Can be restored by clicking on the
Volume's launcher icon or scrolling on the Files icon

  **
   SOLUTION
  **

  WORK-AROUND

  - On the launcher, left click on the Files icon and select the
  unlock from Launcher option.

  FIX

  - The launcher icon for Files to be treated the same way as if it
  was unlocked.

  REGRESSION POTENTIAL

  - Clicking on the Files icon won't send the user to its home folder,
but to the latest opened Files window.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 531208]

2015-01-03 Thread Samuel Suther
+ 10 for the implementation of this UNICODE-FEATURE.

At the moment I'm coding on a Keyboard-Firmware (ErgoDox). Problem is
that I can send UNICODE-Chars easy and nice with the GNOME-Method :
CTRL+Shift+digits, but there is no way to send them to QT-Based
Programms.

So keep calm and implement the Shortcut which is still implemented in
Gnome (and please, please, please don't choose another one like CTRL+
META or such different Stuff...) Keep things easy and implement like it
still works in Gnome.

BTW: Thanks a lot for all your work. I love KDE.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 531208]

2015-01-03 Thread Ivo Anjo
+1 thank you Ruslan.

I'm guessing that at this point we should be asking for this to be
implemented on Wayland, as it seems that X will be deprecated soon
enough and its input code is complex and strange enough (no screensaver
when a pop-up menu is open, for instance) that this won't make it.

lightdm 1.12 breaks config semantics for multiple X servers

Status in lightdm package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Previously lightdm.conf would allow configuration of multiple
instances of the the display manager across multiple instances of the
X server, using [Seat:num] section headers. These semantics could
be used for multiseat setup as well as for using different virtual
terminals to switch between X servers.

Newer versions of lightdm ignore [Seat:num] sections. Multiseat
configuration was changed to be more explicit, but no indication was
given of how simply to configure multiple display manager instances
bound to different X server instances.

Unless newer versions support undocumented features, it would appear
that the functionality of lightdm has regressed.

This regression appears when Ubuntu release is upgraded to 14.10 from
14.04 or earlier. The regression is confirmed in lightdm
  1.12.1-0ubuntu1.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1198283] Re: Huawei E3276 will not recognized correctly

2015-01-03 Thread Martin Linden
The apn setting is taken from the settings I used with an earlier
Huawei modem (E392) that did work on this computer.

I have indeed tried the present modem on a windows machine to verify
that it worked at all. I just tested again, and managed to get a 4G
network connection using online.telia.se. I also removed the PIN, but
could not find any settings to restrict the connection to any
particular type of network on the windows network manager that Huawei
supplies.

Retesting earlier suggestions after that test on windows brings up
somewhat different responses from the script and a steady blue light
(not blinking) from the modem, but no working internet connection, and
no wwan0 interfae visible as far as I can see:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1198283] Re: Huawei E3276 will not recognized correctly

2015-01-03 Thread Michael Brunner
If the device is already switched you should get 12d1:1506. If you get
14fe the device is not switched correctly.

is online.telia.se your correct APN?
Is your Mobile Broadband already configured on another machine like a mac os or
windows machine?

Your error looks like that your mobile broadband device cannot get a connection
to the LTE network.
The Huawei E3276 saves the changes on the device itself, maybe you have already
done some changes like only lte networks.

what do you get if you type: ifconfig and ip link ?

apt-get remove modemmanager

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1407372] [NEW] Blurry Font Bug from GTK+ 3.10.8 in Trusty 14.04

2015-01-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Following a fresh install of Ubuntu Trusty 14.04 I had the surprise to
see blurry fonts showing up in gEdit (stock install), when the document
viewed is longer than a displayed vertical or horizontal page. I later
found it was reported as a bug in Launchpad as blurry font as document
is longer than one page and scroll bars appear, see:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+3.0/+bug/1309785

This GTK+ 3.10.8 bug was reported as corrected in September 2014 in in
GTK+ 3.13.7 . However someone reported a work-around which consisted of
adding an env parameter to the Exec command line in the gedit.desktop
file.

# Exec=gedit %U
Exec=env GTK_DEBUG=no-pixel-cache gedit %U

It looks like the displayed information on a selected package in
Synaptic shows the same behavior i.e. Selecting package 0ad will show
a perfect font rendering in the package info field. However selecting
package 0ad-data which description is slightly longer and will not fit
in the panel window, will display then a blurred font.

I tried the same env GTK_DEBUG=no-pixel-cache to synaptic cmd. line
however this is not working.

Considering that Trusty 14.04 is a LTS release, does anyone knows which
env parameter would fix this bug ?

Bug description:
  I am using HP-G56 stock
  Ubuntu 14.04

When i tell the computer to sleep it bugs out.

It sleeps then when i press a button to wake up it wakes up, but the
login screen comes up and ask for a password but then disappears (i do
have a password) and then it shows what i was doing last and i can do
what ever was opened BUT the ubuntu bar on the side and task bar are
  missing as-well as window headers.

This is a MAJOR security flaw and i would like this fixed before i
decided to install this for professional use.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1366743] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 only prints LibreOffice Docs

Title:
Ubuntu 14.04 only prints LibreOffice Docs

Status in cups package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
I use Ubuntu 14.04, a Logilink Fast Ethernet Printserver and a HP
Color Laserjet 2550L. Under Ubuntu 12.10 everything worked fine and I
  could print any file.

The printer is connected via a USB to the Printserver and adressed via
HP Jet Direct. As already said, everything worked fine under 12.10 and
I didn't change any settings on the printserver.

I use the ubuntu tool for installing the printer, as a normal user not
su. Searching the network, for network printers offers me three
possibilities for adressing the printer. HP Jet Direct, IPP and
LPD/LPR. I tried all of them with the same result. I use the drivers
from the Database, not surprisingly HP/Color Laserjet 2550/HP Color
Laserjet 2550 Series Postscript [en] (recommended).

After installing the printer the first thing that fails is the
Testpage. The ubunut printer spooler tells me that the job is in
progress and the printer starts to blink to tell me that he is
receiving input. Unfortunatly the job never starts or gets finished.
After blinking quite a while the printer stops an nothing happes.

Interestingly, after canceling the job on my computer and a restart of
the printer, the printserver and my computer, I can open libre office
writing Hello World go to print and the printer starts immediately
and prints the correct result. But this only works for libreoffice and
only with text, as soon as there is an image in the document it
doesn't work. I can't print any pdf or even from gedit. Nothing works.
Always the same as with the Testpage. Printer starts to blink but
  nothing happens.

  Description: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS
  Release: 14.04
