Actually, removing RSS reader, as the issue is not that the .desktop
file has the X-Ubuntu-GettextDomain, but rather than its desktop file
was not set up for translations, which is being tracked as bug 1318008

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1357713] Re: ifupdown and upstart can be removed

2014-09-23 Thread Martin Pitt
ubuntu-minimal depends on upstart and ifupdown, so supposedly you
removed that. This is really not a supported configuration.

As for upstart: Debian has a new essential package init which depends
on systemd-sysv | upstart | sysvinit. We could decide to adopt that.
Moving to init-system-helpers for that.

As for ifupdown: ;Most desktops, phones, etc. use dynamic network
configuration with NetworkManager, there is no essential need for
ifupdown.

But still, of course you can shoot yourself into the foot by randomly
removing packages. So just don't do that then :-)

** Package changed: upstart (Ubuntu) = init-system-helpers (Ubuntu)

Bug description:
I'm using Ubuntu 14.10 dev with ifupdown 0.7.48.1ubuntu4 and upstart
1.13.1-0ubuntu3 and currently it is possible to remove ifupdown and
upstart as they are not essential packages or any essential/manual
package does depend on them. Here is the output:

  root@ubuntu:/# apt-get remove ifupdown
  Reading package lists... Done
  Building dependency tree
  Reading state information... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED:
ifupdown upstart
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 2 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
After this operation, 895 kB disk space will be freed.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n] n
  Abort.

As I know Ubuntu wants to change from upstart to systemd in the future so
removing upstart may be fine but I'm wondering why ifupdown can be removed
(wouldn't this remove the ability to create a network connection?).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1357713] Re: Use essential init package to ensure that an init system is present

2014-09-23 Thread Martin Pitt
First of all, for the removal of upstart, one must install package
systemd-sysv.

Right, that will switch the default init to systemd. If you want to
experiment with that, you can do either that or boot with
init=/bin/systemd (you don't need both).

This is indeed not officially supported yet as there are still some
hundred packages to update which only have upstart jobs, but for a day
to day desktop it works quite fine these days.

Re: [Touch-packages] [Bug 1357713] Re: ifupdown and upstart can be removed

2014-09-23 Thread Clint Byrum
Doesn't ifupdown still bring up lo?

Excerpts from Martin Pitt's message of 2014-09-23 06:17:10 UTC:
ubuntu-minimal depends on upstart and ifupdown, so supposedly you
removed that.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1307917] Re: installing driver hangs indefinitely

2014-09-23 Thread vince
I also have the same problem when adding a epson px720wd networkprinter.
When i use controlpaneladd printer, the installation keeps hanging
arond 50%.

I tried the suggestion made by Bruno Nova (brunonova) wrote on 2014-06-18:
However, I then removed the Epson driver, then the Epson repository and key
(using Software Updates) and refreshed the cache.
Then I tried to install the printer again, this time by executing the
system-config-printer command from the terminal -- The installation succeeded.
The scanner is also working.

I also tried to install the printer on netrunner 14.04, via system-
settingsadd printer. the printer installed correctly.

Running it from the command line outputs the following two lines:

I've attached an strace -f of the above command. The trace doesn't

In your favorites scopes you should have Apps, My Music and The Weather
Channel scopes.
There should be some local music and it should appear in my music

Bug Phone will hang wen entering the weather channel scope.

Go to my music scope( by defaults it is set on Artist) set the album view
Click on an album in the scope view go back using the top arrow to the scope
view, move in the scopes in the direction of the weather channel scope.

As soon as you enter the weather channel scope the screen is divided
in between the two scope and you cannot exit this screen. You can
still access other apps via the left launcher and launch them
  successfully.

[touch] indicator needs to be able to control volume per audio role

Status in “indicator-sound” package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
From the Sound design for Touch (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Sound#Phone),
we need to change the default behaviour of the indicator in order to
be able to change volume per audio roles, and not only the master
  volume.

On touch the master volume will always be at 100%, and each media role
will have its own volume values, so we can have a different volume
level for multimedia, ringtone and alarms.

This can be done using the streamrestore module in pulseaudio (via another
dbus entry point that is only enabled on touch atm):

http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/PulseAudio/Documentation/Developer/Clients/DBus/StreamRestore/

There's also a sample script on python that can be used to set/get volume per
roles:
  https://raw.githubusercontent.com/jusa/pulseaudio-utils/master/pasr.py

And the current roles supporter by touch are: multimedia, alert, phone
  and alarm.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1353379] Re: VoiceMail notification pretends there are 255 messages. It is not true there are only 2

2014-09-23 Thread Jussi Kangas
As said, commercial networks do not support this feature around here.
Voice mail message notification comes as regular sms message here. But
you can trust that simulation works correctly. It has been used with
several enough phones. Message going straight to the sim is a valid
case.

And as said, it looks like that 255 is coming from using the card in
different phone that updates the SIM differently. If that is wanted to
be fixed I think easiest and quickest solution is stop reading file from
the SIM. If we wish, we could enhance that solution by reading the value
from messages. Third option is not to read the value before new voice
mail message.

However, in my opinion this is a trivial case. After user checks the
voice mails from network network should send new message that should
update the count correctly. Problem with card that has been moved from
one phone to another should therefore be shortlived.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1372828] [NEW] Altitude and vertical accuracy give NaN values (instead of being unset) when using HERE integration

2014-09-23 Thread Pete Woods
Public bug reported:

As per the title, we're doing checks like:

if (pos.altitude)
{
 // Do stuff with altitude
}

if (pos.accuracy.vertical)

These checks are passing (when really pos.altitude should evaluate to
false) when using Nokia HERE integration, and the result is that we're
giving out NaN values to clients.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 757551] Re: upowerd leaks memory with Logitech universal receiver

2014-09-23 Thread Martin Pitt
I don't have such a device, so I'm afraid I either need someone with
such a device to debug this, or get ssh access to an affected machine.
As a first step, please install valgrind, and run this:

sudo killall upowerd; sudo valgrind --leak-check=full --
/usr/lib/upower/upowerd -v 21 | tee /tmp/upower.log

There should be a lot of text at the initialization, and then I expect
some regular updates for the wireless keyboard/mouse batteries. These
will hopefully go along with some valgrind leak traces. It should be
sufficient to just let that run for maybe 10 minutes, then press
Control-C, and attach /tmp/upower.log here.

Thanks!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1372409] Re: The monitor won't wake up after going to sleep (initiated by locking, automatic or manual)

2014-09-23 Thread Jan Corazza
** Description changed:

I am using the 3.16.3 kernel and Mesa/drivers/Xorg from the Oibaf PPA -
but this also happens when using drivers from the regular repositories.
-
- I can leave the computer to lock itself, or lock it by pressing
- Ctrl+Alt+L, and it power off the monitor after a few seconds (blue LED
- turns yellow), and then if I wait a minute - I will not be able to wake
- it up by moving the mouse or pressing any key. Switching to a TTY
- doesn't work either, but the keyboard is responding (can turn caps lock
- on/off).
-
- I have to restart the computer to get it in a working state after this
- happens.

I would say that this bug is SEVERE, because you can lose important
  work.

- On proprietary AMD drivers (fglrx) - this works. Also, it worked on the
- 3.13 kernel (default)
+ Steps to reproduce:

- EDIT: interestingly enough, suspending and resuming works fine. Only
- switching off the monitor doesn't. I will try another monitor model
- tomorrow and report back - but since the monitor works with other
- drivers I don't think the monitor is causing these issues.
+ 1. Lock computer (Ctrl+Alt+L) or let it lock itself automatically
+ 2. Wait a few seconds for the monitor to shut down (LED blue-yellow and
displayed warning)
+ 3. Try to wake it up
+
+ Expected behavior: the monitor is woken up and the Ubuntu lock screen is
+ displayed
+
+ Actual behavior: the monitor stays off, black screen
+
+ Additional information:
+
+ - Suspending and resuming works fine.
+ - Switching to a TTY doesn't work either, but the keyboard is responding
(can turn caps lock on/off).
+ - I have to restart the computer to get it in a working state after this
happens. (therefore SEVERE)
+
+ It works on these configurations:
+
+ - proprietary AMD drivers (fglrx) - this works.
+ - kernel 3.13 (default)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1369632] Re: After disconnecting and reconnecting device to MTP host it is not possible to delete a folder using MTP

2014-09-23 Thread Richard Huddie
I can still reproduce the issue on 14.09-proposed #56. I am attaching some test
data which I am copying to Pictures folder.
So the exact steps are:
1) Connect krillin to MTP host over USB
2) Copy test data folder1 to Pictures folder
3) Remove USB cable
4) Re-insert USB cable
5) Delete folder1 from Pictures

At this point the delete will fail and the device becomes un-responsive.

  ENVIRONMENT:
  Device: ubuntu-rtm/14.09-proposed build 40
  Desktop: Windows 8.1 / Ubuntu

  SUMMARY:
After disconnecting and reconnecting device to MTP host it is not possible to
delete a folder using MTP

  STEPS:
  1) Connect Ubuntu device to host PC over USB
  2) Copy some music content to the music folder on MTP device including some
folder structure
  3) Eject the Ubuntu device's USB connection
  4) Re-insert Ubuntu device USB
  5) Browse to MTP Music folder on device
  6) Try to delete some of the music folders that were just added

  EXPECTED RESULT:

The content should be deleted successfully.

  ACTUAL RESULT:

After a delay of about 30 seconds Ubuntu presents error:
libmtp error: could not delete object.
It is then not possible to copy any content to or from the device.

Windows also fails to delete the content with error stating that
  device has been disconnected.

Note that it is possible to delete files when the device is re-
connected. It is when deleting a parent folder that the problem
  occurs.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1294303] Re: Mediascanner-service-2 process is killing HD and consumes lot of CPU

2014-09-23 Thread Jussi Pakkanen
To prevent Mediascanner from scanning files on an external hd, add a
.nomedia file as described in comment 8.

It will also be slow to scan only the first time. Once it has scanned
the directories, it caches the results and does not do it again, even if
you unplug and replug your drive.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1372847] [NEW] [SRU] New stable release 2.40.1

2014-09-23 Thread Iain Lane
Public bug reported:

We'd like to update glib2.0 using the GNOME MRE.

[ Description ]

Upstream have released a new stable, fixing some bugs.

glib2.0 (2.40.2-0ubuntu1) UNRELEASED; urgency=medium

  * New upstream stable release, fixing bugs
+ gobject: try to link with -Wl,-z,nodelete to prevent unloading
+ g_file_copy: Don't set GError when we intend to ignore errors
+ gapplication-tool: ensure object paths are valid
+ gtlscertificate: fix certificate list parsing with trailing comments
+ g_str_has_prefix: improve efficiency with long strings
+ Added type check to GPermission public functions.
+ GApplication: Don't decrease use_count below 0
+ networkmonitornetlink: fix IPv6 issues on Android
+ gresolver: Ensure GThreadedResolver always sets an error if resolution
  fails
+ gmacros.h: add G_GNUC_*_IGNORE_DEPRECATIONS macros for clang
+ networkaddress: fix parsing of uri with @ after authority
+ gvariant tests: workaround libc/compiler issue

 -- Iain Lane iain.l...@canonical.com Tue, 23 Sep 2014 10:27:17 +0100

[ QA ]

Under the terms of the MRE, you can assume the bugs are fixed. I suggest
installing the update and then using your system as normal for the 10
day verification time.

[ Regression potential ]

One of the fixes could be bad. This is the first stable in this series
and is a new release, so hasn't had much testing on its own, even if all
of the fixes are in the unstable release.

2014-09-23 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
I uploaded the fixes for both gnome-bluetooth and bluez to trusty;
pending review by the SRU team.

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+

+
+ * Try to connect a bluetooth keyboard using the wizard; especially one

+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * It must be ensured that keyboards that could already be paired
+ successfully still work properly; specifically, especially for keyboards
+ but for any other devices, that pairing still works despite changes to
+ the SSP code.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+
+ ---
+
When I try to connect my bluetooth keyboard using bluetooth-wizard, it
  ever fails:

  ** (bluetooth-wizard:11367): WARNING **: Setting up 'Logitech K760'

This keyboard works fine with another computer under ubuntu 11.04.
This keyboard works fine with this computer and Windows 7 (arghhh).
This computer ubuntu 12.04 works fine with my bluetooth mouse.

I would say that this bug is SEVERE, because you can lose important
  work.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Lock computer (Ctrl+Alt+L) or let it lock itself automatically
  2. Wait a few seconds for the monitor to shut down (LED blue-yellow and
displayed warning)
  3. Try to wake it up

Expected behavior: the monitor is woken up and the Ubuntu lock screen is
  displayed

Actual behavior: the monitor stays off, black screen

  Additional information:

- - Suspending and resuming works fine.
- - Switching to a TTY doesn't work either, but the keyboard is responding
(can turn caps lock on/off).
- - I have to restart the computer to get it in a working state after this
happens. (therefore SEVERE)
+  - Suspending and resuming works fine.
+  - Switching to a TTY doesn't work either, but the keyboard is responding

+  - I have to restart the computer to get it in a working state after this

  It works on these configurations:

- - proprietary AMD drivers (fglrx) - this works.
- - kernel 3.13 (default)
+  - proprietary AMD drivers (fglrx) - this works.
+  - kernel 3.13 (default)

  Relevant hardware:

   - graphics card: AMD Radeon HD 7790
   - monitor: HP ZR2330w

+ My current solution:
+
+ Not locking the computer, and disabling automatic lock in Brightness
+ Lock settings (set to Never). I did not disable suspending, because as I
+ said, that worked.

Status in “dialer-app” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open Phone app, make sure you have some made/received/missed calls
  2. Carry out a bottom edge full swipe to access your recent calls
  3. Tap on a recent call

  4. Current behaviour - number is directly dialed back

  Desired solution:

After tapping on the list item in the recent view, the number should be
pre-populated into the dialer app.
In user testing, too many accidental calls were made. By putting the number
first into the dialer, user has to confirm the call by tapping the green call
button.

Initial sync of default google calendar ran continuously for 90 mins before I
terminated it
The ics file grew to 8MB

I can see two major things from the log:
  - it syncs all past events (I would suggest starting with the current or
previous month if necessary)
  - it adds recurring events repeatedly (is the query using the wrong API and
receiving events by timeframe rather than as raw event data?)

It turns out that UOA does not find the Evernote binary module.
Previously, in a .deb package we installed this module in the ubuntu-
system-settings private modules location, but we cannot do this with a
.click, thus the right QML2_IMPORT_PATH before running plugin code.
This stops the app from working, as no account can then be selected.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1289930] Re: Crackling sounds after rebooting, and when playing any audio. Going to sleep and coming back fixes it.

2014-09-23 Thread Doug Holton
I still see the issue with a brand new dell xps 13 9333 and ubuntu 14.04
just installed fresh.

One temporary workaround (works only a few minutes) is to close the lid
and put the system to sleep. When waking back up, sounds play without
the crackling/popping/clicking noises for a short while.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1368101] Re: Stopped apps don't restart when launched from another app

2014-09-23 Thread Joe Odukoya
Kevin -
Can you explain why the status for Unity8 and URL-dispatcher has been changed
to 'Opinion'.
Note: This is not a challenge - just trying to understand.

Title:
Stopped apps don't restart when launched from another app

Status in Qt integration with the Mir display server:
  Confirmed
Status in “qtmir” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in “unity8” package in Ubuntu:
  Opinion
Status in “url-dispatcher” package in Ubuntu:
  Opinion

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:-

  1) Open twitter webapp and sign in
  2) Open browser
  3) Open some other apps to ensure browser gets cleaned up by app lifecycle
  4) Switch to twitter
  5) Click on a link in a tweet

  Expected behaviour:-

  * Clicked link opens in browser

  Actual behaviour:-

  * Nothing

Note, you can swipe back to browser to wake it up from suspend, then back
to twitter, click the link and it _will_ switch back to browser and open the
link.
