Title:
  omshell returns inconsistent results or segfaults

Status in isc-dhcp package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  I have just built a Ubuntu 20.04 server and installed isc-dhcp-server
  4.4.1 on it and I am seeing inconsistent returns from omshell.
  Initially omshell returns data as expected, but when I exit and re-enter
  omshell connections fail.

  Here is the initial, working, session:

  # omshell
  > server localhost
  > port 7911
  > key omapi_key
  > connect
  obj:
  > new failover-state
  obj: failover-state
  > set name = "dhcp-failover"
  obj: failover-state
  name = "dhcp-failover"
  > open
  obj: failover-state
  name = "dhcp-failover"
  partner-address = c0:9d:e9:76:e9:55:00:00
  partner-port = 00:00:02:07
  local-address = 10:9d:e9:76:e9:55:00:00
  local-port = 00:00:02:07
  max-outstanding-updates = 00:00:00:0a
  mclt = 00:00:01:2c
  load-balance-max-secs = 00:00:00:03
  load-balance-hba =

ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00
  partner-state = 00:00:00:02
  local-state = 00:00:00:02
  partner-stos = 60:36:d0:68
  local-stos = 60:36:8b:3b
  hierarchy = 00:00:00:01
  last-packet-sent = 00:00:00:00
  last-timestamp-received = 00:00:00:00
  skew = 00:00:00:00
  max-response-delay = 00:00:00:3c
  cur-unacked-updates = 00:00:00:00

  Here is what I see when the connect fails. Well, just hangs really.

  # omshell
  > server localhost
  > port 7911
  > key omapi_key
  > connect

  And then I hit ctrl-c to break out and tried again:

  # omshell
  > server localhost
  > port 7911
  > key omapi_key
  > connect
  Segmentation fault (core dumped)

  Note, the peer to this server is still running Ubuntu 18.04 with
  isc-dhcp-server 4.3.5. Running the exact same commands on the peer
  works reliably. (They are using the same python script to drive
  omshell.) The DHCP server on the new system appears to be working
  just fine as reported by omshell on the peer and systemctl.

  I was curious if the problem could be with the mis-matched versions
  of isc-dhcp-server so I shutdown isc-dhcp-server on the 18.04 system
  and get the same results.

  I also tried using a python script with the pypureomapi module to
  try and determine if the problem was in omshell or the server. I
  got very similar results when I attempted to get information about
  the failover state of the server. Interestingly interrogating
  the server about host information seems to work just fine.

  This is a critical bug since I don't see how to fail over a DHCP
  that is running the isc-dhcp-server on 20.04 without being able
  to issue omapi commands.

  I am attaching apport output to this bug report.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1997124] Re: Netplan/Systemd/Cloud-init/Dbus Race

2023-01-04 Thread Rod Smith
We've run into this in the Server Certification lab on mouser, a NEC
Express5800/R128h-1M server. In our testing, it's affected 50% (2 of 4)
Ubuntu 20.04 deployments, but not 18.04 or 22.04 deployments (0 of 3 for
each of those). These sample sizes are low, so this may be a
coincidence; but I'm mentioning it here in case it's not a coincidence.

Title:
  Netplan/Systemd/Cloud-init/Dbus Race

Status in cloud-init:
  Triaged
Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Cloud-init is seeing intermittent failures while running `netplan
  apply`, which appears to be caused by a missing resource at the time
  of call.

  The symptom in cloud-init logs looks like:

  Running ['netplan', 'apply'] resulted in stderr output: Failed to
  connect system bus: No such file or directory

  I think that this error[1] is likely caused by cloud-init running
  netplan apply too early in boot process (before dbus is active).

  Today I stumbled upon this error which was hit in MAAS[2]. We have
  also hit it intermittently during tests (we didn't have a reproducer).

  Realizing that this may not be a cloud-init error, but possibly a
  dependency bug between dbus/systemd we decided to file this bug for
  broader visibility to other projects.

  I will follow up this initial report with some comments from our
  discussion earlier.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2000798] Re: cannot connect to K380 bluetooth keyboard

2023-01-04 Thread Daniel van Vugt
If the machines are in different locations then they will experience
different interference. It might only fail in the presence of too much

interference will come and go over time.

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Had trouble connecting my K380 keyboard with the laptop (previously
  used it without issues), unpaired and now I can no longer pair it.

  Other bluetooth devices work with this particular laptop (mouse,
  earbuds), the keyboard works flawlessly with a different laptop
  (running the same Ubuntu 20.04 OS) and an Android phone.

  Used bluetoothctl to peek under the hood and got nowhere after turning scan
on on the controller and activating the keyboard:
  [NEW] Device [...mac address of the keyboard...] Keyboard K380
  [CHG] Device [...mac address of the keyboard...] Connected: no
  [DEL] Device [...mac address of the keyboard...] Keyboard K380

  After this action, I get:

  # connect [...mac address of the keyboard...]
  Device [...mac address of the keyboard...] not available

  When I activate the keyboard (by pressing any key on it while it's
  turned on), in the bluetooth settings GUI tool I see the keyboard
  appear for a fraction of a second in the list of unpaired devices and
  then it disappears.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2000817] Re: Wrong SHA256-value computed on kinetic

Title:
  Wrong SHA256-value computed on kinetic

Status in openldap package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  The OpenLDAP-contrib module sha2 (located in contrib/slapd-
  modules/passwd/sha2/) computes a wrong SHA256/SSHA256-hash on Ubuntu
  kinetic. This breaks our current password-authentication in ldap.

  The problematic computation:

  $ slappasswd -s secret -h '{SHA256}' -o module-load=pw-sha2
  {SHA256}WIrrpN3OjEVOUf6yrH1j+o+ODuUuNBo979Od4UXnu54=

  The (correct) reference-value on the same system (or older ubuntu
  Versions):

  $ echo -n "secret" | openssl dgst -sha256 -binary | openssl enc -base64
  K7gNU3sdo+OL0wNhqoVWhr3g6s1xYv72ol/pe/Unols=

  We nailed the problem down to a bug in the gcc-optimizer for strict-aliasing.
so most probably the gcc-version on kinetic (v12.2.0) is the reason. The
workaround is to compile the sha2-Module with the flag "-fno-strict-aliasing".
Then the correct value is computed. An example taken from a git-compiled
version of OpenLDAP 2.5.13:

  $ ./servers/slapd/slappasswd -T passwd -s secret -h '{SHA256}' -o
module-load=pw-sha2 -o module-path=contrib/slapd-modules/passwd/sha2/.libs
  {SHA256}K7gNU3sdo+OL0wNhqoVWhr3g6s1xYv72ol/pe/Unols=

  Ubuntu:

  Description:Ubuntu 22.10
  Release:22.10

  OpenLDAP-Package: 2.5.13+dfsg-1ubuntu1

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1740666] Re: systemd-timesyncd doesn't sync time after resume from hibernate

2023-01-04 Thread Anti Mailer
Confirmed on Ubuntu 20.04 - kernel 5.4.0-135
The behaviour exits for about the last 5 kernel updates - but also a weak bios
battery (wrong hw clock after resume) can be the reason for the problem.
Suggested solution: Forcing a time sync after resuming from hibernation.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1999104] Re: arm64: broken c++ exception handler support leads to std::terminate() being called and program abort

2023-01-04 Thread Matthew Ruffell
Performing verification for Bionic.

I started two instances on AWS, one c6g.medium (arm64) and a t2.micro
(amd64).

I went through the reproducer listed in the testcase with libunwind-dev
1.2.1-8 from -release.

$ wget
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libunwind/+bug/1999104/+attachment/5635122/+files/libunwind.tar.gz
$ sudo apt install -y build-essential libunwind-dev
$ tar xvf libunwind.tar.gz && cd test
test/
test/lib.hpp
test/main.cpp
test/lib.cpp
test/Makefile
~/test$ make all
g++ -g -shared-libgcc -shared -fPIC -std=c++11 -o libtest.so lib.cpp
g++ -g -shared-libgcc -o main -L. -Wl,-rpath,. main.cpp -ltest
g++ -g -shared-libgcc -o main_unwind -L. -Wl,-rpath,.  main.cpp -ltest -lunwind

On arm64:

~/test$ ./main
int throws lib
int caught main
~/test$ ./main_unwind
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'int'
terminate called recursively
Aborted (core dumped)

On amd64:

~/test$ ./main
int throws lib
int caught main
~/test$ ./main_unwind
int throws lib
int caught main

As expected, we see arm64 abort the execution of the reproducer.

I then installed 1.2.1-8ubuntu0.1 from -proposed and rebuilt the
reproducers:

$ make clean
$ make all
g++ -g -shared-libgcc -shared -fPIC -std=c++11 -o libtest.so lib.cpp
g++ -g -shared-libgcc -o main -L. -Wl,-rpath,. main.cpp -ltest
g++ -g -shared-libgcc -o main_unwind -L. -Wl,-rpath,.  main.cpp -ltest -lunwind

On arm64:

$ ./main
int throws lib
int caught main
$ ./main_unwind
int throws lib
int caught main

On amd64:

~/test$ ./main
int throws lib
int caught main
~/test$ ./main_unwind
int throws lib
int caught main

We see that 1.2.1-8ubuntu0.1 from -proposed does not abort, and instead
runs as expected. There is no change in behaviour on amd64. The package
in -proposed fixes the problem, happy to mark as verified for Bionic.

  Compiling libunwind with --enable-cxx-exceptions enabled leads to
  _Unwind_RaiseException being called during __cxa_throw(), which fails
  to find a handler, and the generic std::terminate() is called instead,
  aborting the program.

  On i386 and amd64 this doesn't seem to be the case, and the libunwind
  handlers seem to be present.

  To fix, we only enable the configure option --enable-cxx-exceptions on
  i386 and amd64 only, in debian/rules. This lets other architectures
  fall back to the symbols provided by libgcc_s, which implementation
  works correctly.

  [Testcase]

  Start an arm64 instance, for example, a c6g.medium instance on AWS,

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2000551] Re: [System Fonts] Replace default sinhala font from LKLUG to Noto

On 2023-01-04 18:46, Robie Basak wrote:
> What's the plan for Kinetic? Please see:

The plan is to be lazy and skip kinetic. ;)

Actually, in this particular case it shouldn't be a problem. If a user
with an updated jammy (including this fix) upgrades to kinetic, they
will still have version 0.219.1 of the language-selector-* packages,
since the version string in kinetic is lower. So no regression.

I added a kinetic "Won't fix" bug task to clarify my intention.

> If the goal is to make Sinhala text more readable on Ubuntu, please

I expanded the test plan with that.

Please note that Sinhala is not well covered with respect to FOSS
(including Ubuntu) translations. If you use Sinhala as the display
language for menus and messages, you see Sinhala strings only
occasionally. So even if the risk you mention exists, it's a low risk
for this reason.

I'm assuming that the focus of the Sinhala speaking users is about web
browsing at first hand.

But I added a pointer to this aspect in the bug description.

** Description changed:

  [ Impact ]

  The current default font for Sinhala (LKLUG) is unmaintained and comes
  with issues. Noto offers Sinhala fonts with significantly higher
  quality.

  fonts-lklug-sinhala is pulled by quite a few meta packages. Instead of
  changing that, the proposed change makes fontconfig give Noto Sans
  Sinhala respective Noto Serif Sinhala higher precedence than LKLUG, and
  that — together with installation of fonts-noto-core — seems to be
  sufficient to achieve the desired result.

  [ Test Plan ]

  * Install language-selector-[common,gnome] from jammy-proposed.

  * Open Language Support and install the Sinhala language.

  * Open a terminal window and run this command:

-   fc-match -a | grep -E 'LKLUG|Sinhala'
+   fc-match -a | grep -E 'LKLUG|Sinhala'

  * Confirm that Noto Sans Sinhala is listed before LKLUG.
+
+ * Close Firefox and re-open it.
+
+ * Visit e.g. https://si.wikipedia.org and confirm the
+ improvement. (Also I (Gunnar), who don't speak Sinhala,
+   notice a remarkable difference.)

  [ Where problems could occur ]

  No real problem in sight. Some Sinhala speaking users with fonts-noto-
  core installed will indeed see a surprise change when it starts to
  render Sinhala via Noto fonts instead of LKLUG. But that surprise ought
  to make them happy. :)
+
+ Please note Robie Basak's warning about the changed font metrics in
+ comment #7, though.

  [ Original description ]

  **What's the problem?**

  Currently ubuntu comes with LKLUG font for sinhala (si). it's not clear.
  e.g. we cannot recognize vowel signs and read websites using that font.
  We can change it manually but such changes do not apply to some
  applications or application types e.g. snap apps etc.

  **What expected to happen?**

  We would like to see Noto serif sinhala as the default font for sinhala
language

  [Highlighs: clear (readable), thin, takes less space than sans sinhala]

  If noto sans is more suitable for ubuntuOS, you can add noto sans sinhala

Title:
  new vim version in 20.04 sets mouse=a by default

Status in vim package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Upgrading vim in Focal from 2:8.1.0875-5ubuntu4 to 2:8.1.2269-1ubuntu1
  changed the default behavior.

  Old:
  :set mouse
   mouse=

  New:
  :set mouse
   mouse=a

  That new behavior prevents most peoples common
  In fact that is one thing that always annoys me when working with a Debian
VM/Container to have switch to mouse=v to get things working again.

  Issues:
  - marking something with the mouse does NOT copy it anymore
  - marking something with the mouse does not even allow right-click to copy
  - probably more

  Yes I know one could press shift to get the old behavior, but that
  isn't how the rest of the terminal works. I'd much prefer to "press
  shift for the uncommon/new behavior".

  We always had in the changelog:
   - debian/patches/ubuntu-mouse-off.patch:
 + Mouse mode is actively harmful in some chroots.
  Old bug 1661691 brought that delta in early 2017

  But this was dropped on the last merge:
  * Dropped changes, included upstream:
- debian/patches/ubuntu-mouse-off.patch:
  + Mouse mode is actively harmful in some chroots.
  Yet if this would be upstream then the behavior would not have changed right?

  Was this change intentional and is there a good reason that makes up for the
drawback?
  Or is it a bug that was missed on the merge of the new version and should be
resolved before 20.04 goes into FF?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1981794] Re: Duplicate/retried DNS queries fail with REFUSED (Fixed in upstream)

2023-01-04 Thread Lena Voytek
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

  When a DNS query fails to complete and the system retries it, subsequent
  copies of the query will be refused by dnsmasq. The client will
  automatically receive the REFUSED return value without a retry attempt.

  Adding this fix will stop dnsmasq from unnecessarily breaking
  connections, especially for situations where an internet connection is
  flaky.

  This bug is fixed by patching in an upstream commit -
  https://thekelleys.org.uk/gitweb/?p=dnsmasq.git;a=commit;h=2561f9fe0eb9c0be
  - which allows retried DNS requests through rather than refusing them.

  [Test Plan]

  The fix can be tested using 2 lxd containers, 1 for running the fix, and
  1 for acting as a dns server.

  Start by setting up the dns server container:

  # lxc launch images:ubuntu/jammy dns-resolver
  # lxc exec dns-resolver bash

  # apt update && apt dist-upgrade -y
  # systemctl disable systemd-resolved
  # systemctl stop systemd-resolved
  # unlink /etc/resolv.conf
  # echo nameserver 8.8.8.8 | tee /etc/resolv.conf
  # apt install net-tools dnsmasq -y
  # systemctl enable dnsmasq

  Get the container's ip on lxd's network, in this case ifconfig is used,
  showing 10.62.42.157:

  # ifconfig
  eth0: flags=4163  mtu 1500
- inet 10.62.42.157  netmask 255.255.255.0  broadcast 10.62.42.255
- ...
+ inet 10.62.42.157  netmask 255.255.255.0  broadcast 10.62.42.255
+ ...

  Now set up the test container:

  # lxc launch images:ubuntu/jammy test-dnsmasq
  # lxc exec test-dnsmasq bash

  # apt update && apt dist-upgrade -y
  # systemctl disable systemd-resolved
  # systemctl stop systemd-resolved
  # unlink /etc/resolv.conf

  Use other container's ip here

  # echo "nameserver 10.62.42.157
  nameserver 127.0.0.1" | tee /etc/resolv.conf

  # apt install dnsmasq -y
  # systemctl enable dnsmasq

  Setup bind9 to delay ping resolution failure when testing

  # apt install bind9 -y

  # cat  swap containers

  # echo nameserver 8.8.8.8 | tee /etc/resolv.conf; systemctl restart
  dnsmasq

  Ping will continue to not pick up the domain and fails with:

  ping: ubuntu.com: Temporary failure in name resolution

  With the fix, ping should now pick up the new successful responses:

  PING ubuntu.com (185.125.190.29) 56(84) bytes of data.
  64 bytes from website-content-cache-3.ps5.canonical.com (185.125.190.29):

  64 bytes from website-content-cache-3.ps5.canonical.com (185.125.190.29):
icmp_seq=5 ttl=48 time=163 ms
  64 bytes from website-content-cache-3.ps5.canonical.com (185.125.190.29):
icmp_seq=6 ttl=48 time=163 ms
  ^C
  --- ubuntu.com ping statistics ---
  6 packets transmitted, 6 received, 0% packet loss, time 5005ms

+ Note: ping is used here instead of another dns tester such as dig
+ because it continues its dns resolution attempts with retry packets even
+ after receiving a REFUSED error. Other programs fail immediately on
+ REFUSED and are unable to send duplicate packets to reproduce the issue.

  [Where problems could occur]

  This change was added upstream in version 2.87, which means it has not
  been tested in many situations alongside 2.86. Allowing the retries
  could lead to a flood of requests to remote DNS servers if the replies
  are unable to make it back through dnsmasq to the user.

  [Other Info]

  This bug was fixed in Kinetic in version 2.86-1.1ubuntu2.

  [Original Description]

  Duplicate or retried DNS queries will return REFUSED for one of the
  queries causing intermittent failures in clients.

  This probably breaks lots of things, but for me is causing 22.04's
  internet

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2000551] Re: [System Fonts] Replace default sinhala font from LKLUG to Noto

2023-01-04 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for working on this!

What's the plan for Kinetic? Please see:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Newer_Releases

If the goal is to make Sinhala text more readable on Ubuntu, please
could you make that an additional part of the Test Plan, instead of only
checking the order of output in a font listing? I appreciate that would
be subjective, but I think that with the screenshots given, asking
someone who can read Sinhala to just verify it's a substantial
improvement and matches expectations would be much better than not doing
that at all. In working to fix this we should ensure that we've actually
achieved the intended goal, rather than an intermediary technical step.

> Where problems could occur

It sounds like font metrics are changing, so text might wrap
differently, resulting in it no longer fitting, or change the size of
windows, etc, in various user interface elements. It sounds like it's
worth the change, but please look out for this during testing.

  [System Fonts] Replace default sinhala font from LKLUG to Noto

Status in language-selector package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in ubuntu-meta package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix
Status in language-selector source package in Jammy:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  [ Impact ]

  The current default font for Sinhala (LKLUG) is unmaintained and comes
  with issues. Noto offers Sinhala fonts with significantly higher
  quality.

  fonts-lklug-sinhala is pulled by quite a few meta packages. Instead of
  changing that, the proposed change makes fontconfig give Noto Sans
  Sinhala respective Noto Serif Sinhala higher precedence than LKLUG,
  and that — together with installation of fonts-noto-core — seems to be
  sufficient to achieve the desired result.

  [ Test Plan ]

  * Install language-selector-[common,gnome] from jammy-proposed.

  * Open Language Support and install the Sinhala language.

  * Open a terminal window and run this command:

fc-match -a | grep -E 'LKLUG|Sinhala'

  * Confirm that Noto Sans Sinhala is listed before LKLUG.

  [ Where problems could occur ]

  No real problem in sight. Some Sinhala speaking users with fonts-noto-
  core installed will indeed see a surprise change when it starts to
  render Sinhala via Noto fonts instead of LKLUG. But that surprise
  ought to make them happy. :)

  [ Original description ]

  **What's the problem?**

  Currently ubuntu comes with LKLUG font for sinhala (si). it's not
  clear. e.g. we cannot recognize vowel signs and read websites using
  that font. We can change it manually but such changes do not apply to

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1995247] Re: Leftover /tmp/apt-key.* files after updates with embedded gpg keys in deb822 sources

2023-01-04 Thread Robie Basak
Hello Julian, or anyone else affected,

Accepted apt into jammy-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/2.4.9 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
jammy to verification-done-jammy. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-jammy. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

** Changed in: apt (Ubuntu Jammy)
   Status: In Progress => Fix Committed

  When keys are embedded into deb822 sources files as Signed-By, apt writes
them to a temporary file, but the code to delete them accidentally had an if
(0) in front of the deletion, so they don't get deleted and accumulate with
each `apt update` run.

  [Test plan]
  Including a test case for this in our comprehensive integration test suite
which runs as autopkgtest, so passing autopkgtest = good.

  [Where problems could occur]
  Files could end up being removed too soon if the code is otherwise wrong?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1988730] Re: package libsasl2-modules provides only unsafe SASL bind mechanims

2023-01-04 Thread Andreas Hasenack
** Description changed:

  [ Impact ]

  The SASL SCRAM mechanism is incorrectly part of the libsasl2-modules-
  gssapi-mit package. It has nothing to do with MIT or GSSAPI, and should
  be in libsasl2-modules.

  Normally this would just be an annoyance, but it just so happens that
  this also prevents to have the SCRAM mechanism coexist with the GSSAPI
  Heimdal one, because libsasl2-modules-gssapi-{mit,heimdal} conflict with
  each other.

  This change is moving a file from one package to another, so appropriate
  breaks/replaces changes have to be made. This move follows case #10 from
  the package transition table[1].

  [ Test Plan ]

  This test plan revolves around dependency checking and upgrades, to make sure
we don't:
  - have conflicting files which would break an upgrade
  - have no loss of functionality after an upgrade (since a plugin moved
between packages)

  a) SCRAM remains installed
  # Install the package that provides SCRAM in jammy

  $ sudo apt install libsasl2-modules-gssapi-mit

  # Confirm mechanism is there and belongs to libsasl2-modules-gssapi-mit:

  $ ll /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sasl2/libscram.so.2
  lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 Aug 16 20:08
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sasl2/libscram.so.2 -> libscram.so.2.0.25

  $ dpkg -S /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sasl2/libscram.so.2
  libsasl2-modules-gssapi-mit:amd64:
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sasl2/libscram.so.2

  # list installed sasl2 packages:
  $ dpkg -l | grep -E "^ii.*sasl2" | awk '{print $2,$3}'
- libsasl2-2:amd64 2.1.27+dfsg2-3ubuntu1
- libsasl2-modules:amd64 2.1.27+dfsg2-3ubuntu1
- libsasl2-modules-db:amd64 2.1.27+dfsg2-3ubuntu1
- libsasl2-modules-gssapi-mit:amd64 2.1.27+dfsg2-3ubuntu1
-
- # dist-upgrade or install the new sasl2 packages from proposed
- # Confirm the same packages are installed as before the upgrade, just at
their newer versions:
  libsasl2-2:amd64 2.1.27+dfsg2-3ubuntu1.1
  libsasl2-modules:amd64 2.1.27+dfsg2-3ubuntu1.1
  libsasl2-modules-db:amd64 2.1.27+dfsg2-3ubuntu1.1
  libsasl2-modules-gssapi-mit:amd64 2.1.27+dfsg2-3ubuntu1.1
+
+ # dist-upgrade or install the new sasl2 packages from proposed
+ # Confirm the same packages are installed as before the upgrade, just at
their newer versions:
+ libsasl2-2:amd64 2.1.27+dfsg2-3ubuntu1.2
+ libsasl2-modules:amd64 2.1.27+dfsg2-3ubuntu1.2
+ libsasl2-modules-db:amd64 2.1.27+dfsg2-3ubuntu1.2
+ libsasl2-modules-gssapi-mit:amd64 2.1.27+dfsg2-3ubuntu1.2

  # Confirm the scram mechanism is still there, as before:

  $ ll /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sasl2/libscram.so.2
  lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 Aug 16 20:08
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sasl2/libscram.so.2 -> libscram.so.2.0.25

  # But now it belongs to the libsasl2-modules package:
  $ dpkg -S /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sasl2/libscram.so.2
  libsasl2-modules:amd64: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sasl2/libscram.so.2

  b) Following (a), perform a release-upgrade to kinetic, and confirm that
  the same sasl2 packages remain installed, but now at the kinetic
  version:

  $ dpkg -l | grep -E "^ii.*sasl2" | awk '{print $2,$3}'
  libsasl2-2:amd64 2.1.28+dfsg-6ubuntu2
  libsasl2-modules:amd64 2.1.28+dfsg-6ubuntu2
  libsasl2-modules-db:amd64 2.1.28+dfsg-6ubuntu2
  libsasl2-modules-gssapi-mit:amd64 2.1.28+dfsg-6ubuntu2

  And that the scram mechanism is there, and still belongs to the
  libsasl2-modules package:

  $ ll /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sasl2/libscram.so.2
  lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 Aug 16 20:08
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sasl2/libscram.so.2 -> libscram.so.2.0.25

  $ dpkg -S /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sasl2/libscram.so.2
  libsasl2-modules:amd64: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sasl2/libscram.so.2

  c) A jammy system WITHOUT the SCRAM mechanism available (i.e.,
  libsasl2-modules-gssapi-mit is NOT installed), will get SCRAM available
  after the upgrade, but without installing any new package.

  # Start with these sasl2 packages installed on jammy:

- libsasl2-2:amd64 2.1.27+dfsg2-3ubuntu1
- libsasl2-modules:amd64 2.1.27+dfsg2-3ubuntu1

Title:
  Missing channel binding prevents authentication to ActiveDirectory

Status in cyrus-sasl2 package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in openldap package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in cyrus-sasl2 source package in Jammy:
  Fix Released
Status in openldap source package in Jammy:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  When attempting to authenticate against a Windows Active Directory
  server configured to require SASL channel binding over SSL/TLS ldap
  connections (ldaps), authentication will fail stating invalid
  credentials as the cause.

  This is due to cyrus-sasl2 missing the sasl channel binding feature of
  GSSAPI/GSS-SPNEGO.

  Furthermore, for interoperability with Windows Active Directory
  Server, it's necessary to be able to set the SASL SSF (security
  strength factor) to 0 (zero) when it's used over an already encrypted
  connection like ldaps.

  To fix these issues, these items are added as patches from a set of
  upstream commits.

  [Test Plan]

  To reproduce this issue, a machine running Windows with Active
  Directory must be available over the network. As an example, for
  Windows Server 2019 Evaluation:

  The ISO can be downloaded from
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/download-windows-server-2019
  Install Windows Server, Active Directory, and Certificate Services, then add
the following registry changes from
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/2020-ldap-channel-binding-and-ldap-signing-requirements-for-windows-kb4520412-ef185fb8-00f7-167d-744c-f299a66fc00a

  [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NTDS\Parameters]
  "ldapserverintegrity"=dword:0002
  "LdapEnforceChannelBinding"=dword:0002

  Also enable LDAP logging for Active Directory:

  Reg Add
  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NTDS\Diagnostics
  /v "16 LDAP Interface Events" /t REG_DWORD /d 2

  With the Windows machine available, set up an Ubuntu system on a
  network that can reach the Windows server. This works best and with
  less configuration needed if the Windows server is acting as DNS and
  DHCP server for that network.

  Install packages with:
  $ sudo apt install ldap-utils libsasl2-modules-gssapi-mit krb5-user
  When the Configuring Kerberos Authentication prompt shows up, use the realm
of the Windows Server. If prompted, use the windows server IP for the Kerberos
KDC and admin servers.

  Save the Windows Server AD CA certificate file as
/usr/local/share/ca-certificates/ad-ca.crt then run
  $ sudo update-ca-certificates

  In /etc/ldap/ldap.conf set
  BASE dc={REALM NAME} # split the domain components like dc=example,dc=com
  URI ldaps://{WINDOWS SERVER MACHINE NAME}.{REALM NAME}

  With Ubuntu set up, the actual test can be run:

  $ kinit
  Enter Password
  $ ldapwhoami -Y GSSAPI -O maxssf=0 -o SASL_CBINDING=tls-endpoint

  Prior to the fix, this would display the following:

  SASL/GSSAPI authentication started
  ldap_sasl_interactive_bind_s: Invalid credentials (49)
  additional info: 80090346: LdapErr: DSID-..., comment:
AcceptSecurityContext error, data 80090346, v4563

  With the fix, the authentication will display the user information.

  The same happens with
  $ ldapwhoami -Y GSS-SPNEGO -O maxssf=0 -o SASL_CBINDING=tls-endpoint

  SASL/GSS-SPNEGO authentication started
  ldap_sasl_interactive_bind_s: Invalid credentials (49)
  additional info: 80090346: LdapErr: DSID-..., comment:
AcceptSecurityContext error, data 80090346, v4563

  [Where problems could occur]

  Based on the patches added, any problems that show up would likely
  occour either in the gssapi plugin or the SASL2 macros. The two files
  changed are plugins/gssapi.c and m4/sasl2.m4, along with some tests.

  There are various situations apart from this one in which GSS-API can
  be used, and this change may affect the way some of these interactions
  over the network are handled.

  In parallel with this SRU, we tested, in jammy, cyrus-imapd server and
  gssapi authentication over tls, with and without this updated sasl
  package. Using as a client thunderbird, imtest (from cyrus-imapd-
  clients), curl (it has imap support), mutt, evolution. All
  authenticated without issues. Also postfix with gssapi authentication
  was tested, and also worked.

  Test automation is essential to higher levels of quality and confidence

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  When attempting to authenticate against a Windows Active Directory
  server configured to require SASL channel binding over SSL/TLS ldap
  connections (ldaps), authentication will fail stating invalid
  credentials as the cause.

  This is due to cyrus-sasl2 missing the sasl channel binding feature of
  GSSAPI/GSS-SPNEGO.

  Furthermore, for interoperability with Windows Active Directory
  Server, it's necessary to be able to set the SASL SSF (security
  strength factor) to 0 (zero) when it's used over an already encrypted
  connection like ldaps.

  To fix these issues, these items are added as patches from a set of
  upstream commits.

  [Test Plan]

  To reproduce this issue, a machine running Windows with Active
  Directory must be available over the network. As an example, for
  Windows Server 2019 Evaluation:

  The ISO can be downloaded from
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/download-windows-server-2019
  Install Windows Server, Active Directory, and Certificate Services, then add
the following registry changes from
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/2020-ldap-channel-binding-and-ldap-signing-requirements-for-windows-kb4520412-ef185fb8-00f7-167d-744c-f299a66fc00a

  [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NTDS\Parameters]
  "ldapserverintegrity"=dword:0002
  "LdapEnforceChannelBinding"=dword:0002

  Also enable LDAP logging for Active Directory:

  Reg Add
  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NTDS\Diagnostics
  /v "16 LDAP Interface Events" /t REG_DWORD /d 2

  With the Windows machine available, set up an Ubuntu system on a
  network that can reach the Windows server. This works best and with
  less configuration needed if the Windows server is acting as DNS and
  DHCP server for that network.

  Install packages with:
  $ sudo apt install ldap-utils libsasl2-modules-gssapi-mit krb5-user

  $ sudo update-ca-certificates

  In /etc/ldap/ldap.conf set
  BASE dc={REALM NAME} # split the domain components like dc=example,dc=com
  URI ldaps://{WINDOWS SERVER MACHINE NAME}.{REALM NAME}

  With Ubuntu set up, the actual test can be run:

  $ kinit
  Enter Password
  $ ldapwhoami -Y GSSAPI -O maxssf=0 -o SASL_CBINDING=tls-endpoint

  Prior to the fix, this would display the following:

  SASL/GSSAPI authentication started
  ldap_sasl_interactive_bind_s: Invalid credentials (49)
  additional info: 80090346: LdapErr: DSID-..., comment:
AcceptSecurityContext error, data 80090346, v4563

  With the fix, the authentication will display the user information.

  The same happens with
  $ ldapwhoami -Y GSS-SPNEGO -O maxssf=0 -o SASL_CBINDING=tls-endpoint

  SASL/GSS-SPNEGO authentication started
  ldap_sasl_interactive_bind_s: Invalid credentials (49)
  additional info: 80090346: LdapErr: DSID-..., comment:
AcceptSecurityContext error, data 80090346, v4563

  [Where problems could occur]

  Based on the patches added, any problems that show up would likely
  occour either in the gssapi plugin or the SASL2 macros. The two files
  changed are plugins/gssapi.c and m4/sasl2.m4, along with some tests.

Title:
  Wrong SHA256-value computed on kinetic

Status in openldap package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  The OpenLDAP-contrib module sha2 (located in contrib/slapd-
  modules/passwd/sha2/) computes a wrong SHA256/SSHA256-hash on Ubuntu
  kinetic. This breaks our current password-authentication in ldap.

  The problematic computation:

  $ slappasswd -s secret -h '{SHA256}' -o module-load=pw-sha2
  {SHA256}WIrrpN3OjEVOUf6yrH1j+o+ODuUuNBo979Od4UXnu54=

  The (correct) reference-value on the same system (or older ubuntu
  Versions):

  $ echo -n "secret" | openssl dgst -sha256 -binary | openssl enc -base64

  $ ./servers/slapd/slappasswd -T passwd -s secret -h '{SHA256}' -o
module-load=pw-sha2 -o module-path=contrib/slapd-modules/passwd/sha2/.libs
  {SHA256}K7gNU3sdo+OL0wNhqoVWhr3g6s1xYv72ol/pe/Unols=

2023-01-04 Thread Alexander
Hi. I got the same problem when I tried to use the Wayland session. When I
switched to Xorg - the problem has gone.
Besides, it's not a fresh install of Ubuntu. I firstly installed one of the
previous editions of Kubuntu (KDE-based distro version), then upgraded to
Kubuntu 22.04, and finally sometime later installed Gnome desktop and removed
the KDE environment.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
  Gnome-shell is crashing on older gen Intel hw due to a memory leak.

  [Fix]
  An upstream commit that fixes the memleak in the crocus driver (which is only
used on Intel 4th gen chips and older)

  [Test case]
  Either test this on an old Intel or see if there's a dent in the reported
crashes.

  [Where things could go wrong]
  Mainly if this would not fix the crashes.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2000798] Re: cannot connect to K380 bluetooth keyboard

2023-01-04 Thread Daniel van Vugt
If the same keyboard works on a different 20.04 machine then it's likely
to be a difference in kernel driver (or associated hardware).

** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided

Title:
  cannot connect to K380 bluetooth keyboard

Status in bluez package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

  Help?

Bug description:
  [Impact]
  Gnome-shell is crashing on older gen Intel hw due to a memory leak.

  [Fix]
  An upstream commit that fixes the memleak in the crocus driver (which is only
used on Intel 4th gen chips and older)

  [Test case]
  Either test this on an old Intel or see if there's a dent in the reported
crashes.

  [Where things could go wrong]
  Mainly if this would not fix the crashes.

Bug description:
  I just upgraded from hirsute to impish using do-release-upgrade. On
  the upgraded system, I can't run either firefox or chromium (both of
  which worked fine under hirsute). Both fail with:

  /user.slice/user-NNN.slice/session-1.scope is not a snap cgroup where
  NNN is my uid

  With firefox, I was able to fix the problem with:

  snap remove --purge firefox
  apt purge firefox
  apt install firefox

  Now firefox works. But I tried the same thing substituting chromium-
  browser for firefox, and it didn't help: chromium fails with the same
  error message.

  I guess there must be something left over from the hirsute version of
  snapd that isn't getting noticed or cleared by the impish version?

  Someone suggested this might be related to bug 1850667, but that bug
  is marked fixed as of a couple months ago, and I just did this upgrade
  today. Also, it doesn't mention the error message I'm seeing.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2000649] Re: Xorg crashes or freezes

2023-01-04 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

Title:
  Xorg crashes or freezes

Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Occasionally, (I wasn't able to reproduce it) xorg just hangs or
  crashes to the log screen. It happens about every two weeks,
  especially if I don't reboot often (However doesn't matter much, I
  think, because it also happens on "fresh" boot).

  I use bspwm (version from the jammy repository), on Lubuntu 22.04.1
  (fresh install, not upgrade from 22.04, nor 20.04).

  Freezes occur when I switch between desktops, just hangs and that's
  it, no response to the keyboard, however mouse is usually usable and
  screen keeps updating.

  Crashes occur when I switch between windows or desktops (I use
  shortcuts for this), xorg just goes black and prints my shortcut to
  the screen; waits for a few secs and opens login screen.

  I don't know why it is happening, before 22.04 I was using 16.04 never
  had any problems.

  I tried google it, use some intel video card in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d
  directory, but it makes system unusable at all, just type is super
  slow and I gave up experimenting with different flags ...

  I really hope you can tell me something, because this bug is really
  annoying, especially when I have a lot of windows open and I have to
  open them all again and again. Thank you in advance and have a nice
  day!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2000487] Re: Monitor não puxa a resolução padrão e Gravação de Tela sem Vídeo

2023-01-04 Thread Daniel van Vugt
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1987040 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1987040

Hello! Those are two unrelated bugs...

The issue with screen recording in Kazam doesn't seem to be a bug...
Kazam appears to be an old X11 app and so cannot read the Wayland
screen. This is a security feature and not a bug. If you need to record
the screen using old software like Kazam then please select 'Ubuntu on
Xorg' from the login screen.

The issue with failing to detect the native screen resolution appears to
be a kernel problem relating to analog VGA connections.

** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => linux (Ubuntu)

** Summary changed:

sofrendo as consequencias.
  Sobre a gravação de Tela sempre que faço uso do software Kazam as gravações
saem com a tela preta sem vídeo ou som.
  Esses são meus problemas e pelo que pesquisei pelo Google de outros usuários,
infelizmente.

  Hello,
  I would like to report some problems that I am suffering from in this version
(Ubuntu 22.04) and suffered from in the previous version (Ubuntu 20.04).
  In the previous version, I was not able to make use of the default resolution
by default, but I managed through a script that I created by searching Google,
so it used the default resolution in this way.
  More unfortunately in this current one I can't make use of the same script
and I'm suffering the consequences.
  About Screen recording whenever I use the Kazam software the recordings come
out with a black screen without video or sound.
  Those are my issues and from what I've googled from other users,
unfortunately.

  save-as procedure is non-intuitive

Status in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  originally posted at bugzilla
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1803706
  but rejected as an "OS-default filepicker" problem.
  The report was as follows:

  User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:107.0)
  Gecko/20100101 Firefox/107.0

  Steps to reproduce:

  I had a pdf open and wished to save it (download)

  Actual results:

  I was presented with a panel that had the name of the pdf at the top and a
list of file-type compatible files in a box below.
  I tried to modify the name of the pdf, but my modification was interpreted as
a search term.

  this is not just non-intuitive, but idiotic behavior

  Expected results:

  my modification should have been accepted

---

  bugzilla's response was

  Off-hand it sounds like the OS-default filepicker is not intuitive,
  which isn't something we can fix, but something to take up with the
  relevant linux distribution and/or window manager folks.

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Hello,

  I have a persistent issue where my freshly installed Ubuntu sleeps the
  monitor after booting.

  The solution is to turn the monitor off and on again. After turning it
  on the login screen is displayed.

  Note that when the screen is off even the combination CTRL+ALT+F2 to
  switch to a console TTY will not work.

  Rarely the system will boot to the login sleep without the screen
  going to sleep.

  There is the following message on dmesg:

  [   63.052273] amdgpu :0a:00.0: [drm] *ERROR* mstb
