Can the Touch's TinySC scan an SD card and compile a music library from
this?
If yes, can the Touch then be used without being connected to a
network, say if I took it to a friends house and simply attached the
Touch's line out to his audio system?

If by standalone mode you mean the Touch is being used as a player,

It sounds like you have an alarm set, check Settings >
your problems stem from your folder structure on the EHD,
instead of lumping 300 or 100 files into one folder, use the following:

This works fine with the full SBS. Press Shuffle on the remote. With
the artist's name highlighted press PLAY. However with the Touch's
internal server, you're limited to the first 100 tracks, and I would
expect some stuttering until it gets goin

BTW, I would eject the SD card from the Touch, and on your PC delete the
folder .Squeezebox.
Replace in your Touch and rescan.

When you're done listening to your own music and wish to listen to radio
stations or Spotify or whatever, if you leave your laptop running it is
all there in LMS.
You NEVER need to switch to mysqueezebox.com
And iPeng will always find your players when you switch on your iPad
mini.

And just to blow your mind:
Any Laptop, PC, Tablet, Smartphone, (using the correct app/software) can
become a squeezebox player.
Any squeezebox player can control any other player on your network, e.g.
you can use your Touch remote/touchscreen to control music playing on
your Laptop or PC or iPad
