I'm with Clytie; this is excellent stuff Julen. Friedel and I did some
translations with your patch and it's really cool to have the extra context
provided by a third language.
I'd like to encourage anyone else with the desire to contribute, to do it -

Hi Clytie
It's quite timely that you should send this :). We've been talking about
a number of UI issues in Pootle that we would like to improve. I'll take
your suggestion about Quick Translate into account when doing
improvements. AJAX is definitely something we want to aim for to get a

Could we use properties to store author information in SVN? For
example, we could add `--with-revprop pootle:author=${author}` to the
commit operation. While this does not

pootle.prefs and then running initdb.py.

Hi everyone
Once version 1.2 of Pootle is released, we will work on merging the
changes in Mozilla's Pootle branch into the trunk.
I have started a wiki page to document the merge process at

Hi Urso
This is a topic in which I am very interested.
There are complaints about Pootle's memory usage from time to time.
Neither Linux nor the BSDs enforce resident memory sizes set by ulimit.
This is a shame, since limiting Pootle's resident memory size would
cause most memory to spill

Hi Wil
That's the expected behaviour. The indexing code in the Toolkit
complains if it finds neither Xapian nor PyLucene.
For the benefit of other readers: we recommend Xapian. If you want to
ensure that Pootle will use Xapian, run
python -c import xapian
on the machine which runs Pootle.
Hi Praveen
The official Pootle server is used for the Decathlon project
(http://translate.sourceforge.net/wiki/decathlon/mainpage). Because of
this, it's closed to any other projects.
If you can find a willing host, we'll help you to set up Pootle there.

Hi Urso
I suspect that you're running into an encoding issue. Perhaps the file
is declared as a UTF-8 file, but encoded with something like ISO8859-1.
Our parser also assumes that a file is UTF-8 encoded if there is no
encoding declaration in the file.

That's quite odd. SQLite support is part of the Python 2.5 distribution.
Of course, it is possible to build Python without SQLite support and
that's probably the case here.
There's no way around this (SQLite support is essential) - would your
hosting service be willing to install SQLite

(I'm including OOo here, because you might want to use Mercurial with

The version control system in Pootle does not work well with distributed
version control systems (git, Mercurial, Bazaar, Darcs).
We have a proposed solution and would like feedback.

Hi everyone
I am pleased to announce that we have merged changes from the mozootle

Thanks Asheesh. I applied you patch and checked in the code.
This patch is really tiny, so not having it on Bugzilla doesn't bother
me :).

In setup.py in svn head, translate.misc.typecheck is not referred-to.
So it doesn't get installed when one does 'python setup.py install'.
I forgot to say that this patch won't give you a running Pootle.
Pootle will give you a traceback, since I have not yet fixed up the way
that the code deals with sessions. If you're feeling inspired to finish,
go ahead :).

I agree that this would be a nice feature.

automatically take the user to the login page and then, upon successful
login, to the string.
