That is really cool. While I'm sure we all think Trisquel is really cool - I
think I can speak for everyone that it is awesome to see other 100% Libre
distros continuing the good fight.
Will try this out at some point.
No, it checks the installation media.
Actually I believe it's a feature of the bittorrent protocol so any client
will do.
Hello !
I noticed a problem, when closing down the top lid of the notebook which uses

The systems seems to go in standby mode, with the power button going from

When opening the lid again, the screen is black, when pressing a key nothing
happens and when pressing the

This comment really helped me (thanks arielgnu)
I was trying to install my HP photosmart D7100 that is plugged into an

When I installed these two programs it instantly recognised my
Anyway, ignore my GNOME complaint - the offending package came from Docky's
PPA rather than gNewSense's repos.
Your CPU obviously has a 64-bit architecture, otherwise you would not even be
able to run the Live CD. So, stick with 64 bits!
Sure, eljinete could easily install trisquel-mini and
trisquel-mini-recommended from the package manager. The problematic part is
to remove the unwanted packages that depend on trisquel and
trsquel-recommended (to save space on the disk and in the menu). When you

Hello,
I am looking to transition from my mac/osx environment to trisquel. The
question that comes up is of course which hardware to use. I have seen a few
post around the topic, but they seem a few years old now.
I am looking for something quite powerful, with characteristics equivalent
Does it resume when not using the lid?
Hello and welcome! The hardware question is always tricky, especially so if
you use a fully free distro. I guess the by far easiest option would be to
get a laptop from Thinkpenguin, they have a banner ad on this page on the
right side column. Click that banner and Trisquel will get a part

p.s - it looks very pretty!!
I know I've had some issues a few times making a usb live installation when I
was on other distros - sometimes unetbootin fails.
Just yesterday I downloaded the debian iso (stable 7.7) and tried to make a
usb image but didn't succeed with the startup disk creator tool. It gave me
an error
Just hope that /dev/sdb isn't their hard disk!
The problem is more the quantity of RAM. If you open several heavy Web pages
(for instance), you will run out of RAM, the system will start using the swap
(called virtual memory in Windows), i.e., the disk that is something like
10-100 times slower than the RAM. I would therefore advise you
Yeah, especially since, as far as I know, removing the Trisquel metapackage
doesn't orphan its otherwise orphan, uneeded dependencies. It'd be an awful
pain to remove them and (most of all) their libraries.
I think It can sometimes take a long time to wake up from standby. Try
standing by, and then wait when waking up, and see whether the computer
finally wakes up after, say, a few minutes.
Anyway, I think there's a seting that disables standby, only enabling screen
turn-offs instead.
'debfoster' is great to only keep what you really want on your system.
However, you need to know the name of the applications you use (and not be
afraid of removing the trisquel and trisquel-recommended meta-packages).
Those settings can be altered in Energy (in the System settings).
You want this laptop with an i7 processor, up to 8 hours usage, 16GB of RAM,
500GB SSD and a 3840x2160 display:
https://www.crowdsupply.com/purism/librem-laptop
That configuration would cost you US$ 2484. You can make it cheaper... or
even more expensive (with 32 GB of RAM and 2x1TB SSD!).
Dear all - thanks for these amazing suggestions. They all look good, but
purism option is exactly what I was looking for. I hope they get the funding!
Wow, thats awsum tawsum! Free but eyecandy.
KVM is free software. We (well, not me: I have never used KVM) can help you
with that. We will not help you with the installation of Adobe Flash.
I guess you should first tell us if you have no sound at all or just no sound
with Adobe Flash.
Thank you.
On KVM I have general no sound.
In KVM I chosse all sound settings from ac97 to sb16 but it doensnt solve my
problem.
Furthermore I found this:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_debug_Virtualization_problems#Audio_output
I changed my settings to: vnc_allow_host_audio = 1 but
Thank you for you tipp.
Can I install flash via apt-get or should I download it manual?
Thanks
You will not get here any help with the installation of proprietary software.
That is because we consider that would not be helping at all. Proprietary
software is the problem. It is never the solution.
I need help because I get no audio output from KVM.
Has someone else this problem?
How does https://www.thinkpenguin.com/catalog/notebook-computers-gnu-linux-2
serve you? There isn't a crowdfunding campaign to wait for.
Not that the wait should drive anyone, especially if one wants a Macesque
device, away from Librem.
Sorry Magic Banana, I know that proprietary software is a probleme on this
fact I choose trisquel!
Is it so horrible to help me to get sound on KVM?
Nothing beats Debootstrap :) https://wiki.debian.org/Debootstrap
That config doesn't come with gNewSense by default, though, mind you (the
screenshot's purpose was showing the sources.list file).
i think the prosessor is fine its slower than a i7 but not everyone needs the
speed
but for the cost upgradeing to 2gb of ram would allow you to run the normal
trisquel
version very well.
it's not only that it is non-free but it is a security and privacy threat

Hello,
I am new by trisquel so sorry that I have not so much knowledge yet.
I installed KVM fresh after this tutorial:
https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/virtualization-using-kvm
and i install Ubuntu 14.04 so I can use the adobe flash player. (I need it to
test some work ... :( )
The problem is,
This isn't the answer you're looking for, but anyway:
You can use Flash in Trisquel.
Please don't use it though, anywhere you can. It's non-free.

You will not get any help with proprietary software here. Proprietary
software is never the solution. It is the problem.
In the spanish forum I've read a post of a user named trinux
https://trisquel.info/en/forum/petici%C3%B3n-para-cambiar-definici%C3%B3n-de-trisquel-en-la-portada
For those of you who don't understand spanish:
trinux basically points out the definition of trisquel on the main page
:)
yes. don't ever listen to me..
i'm a newb :(
sdb is clearly the usb stick.
But you should sudo blkid first and see if your usb is sdb or sdc or
whatever..
good point lembas!
thats what I did, I just went an reinstalled mini 64 bit, so happy now
I feel your pain. My octogenarian mother wants to buy me a smartphone because

called greasemonkey and this userscript:
+1 trinux

Thank you, you open my eyes.
But the problem is still there, why I can get no audio output from KVM?
I develop software and write articel for some magazines.
Actuall I programm 100% non free software and I want to try by step by step
to change it, but its hard :(
Youtube works well with IceCat but with Midori its crash quite often.
Glad to hear that. I was dual booting my T-61 for awhile and definitely
thought it was faster running trisquel-mini than regular trisqel with LXDE or
fluxbox on top.
You'll probably come up with other ideas for speeding up the old gal over
time. Thank you for saving her from the landfill.
Hi all,
I'm unable to login and post to the forum with abrowser 33.0. My
creditentials are correct as I can login in on another machine using firefox

The strange thing is when I try to login in via the menu bar on the right I
seemingly *can* login
I wasn't able to get gnome on a new vm on my gnome-boxes, but I've had a
minimalist install with Flux for awhile and it's running nicely. Very
promising and always nice to have options. I found Trisquel by going down the
list of FSF recommended distros and falling madly in love with some

I also agree with trinux.
Hello Trisquel community,
I noticed the website isn't really functional.
Everything looks beautiful, but when I try to download a Trisquel torrent I
get a 404.
In addition the current screen(Create Forum Topic) says Asunto for Subject
and Corpo for Body.
Just figured I'd mention it.
If the laptop is not yours, it's probably up to your family to decide what
they want to do with the system.
If you're not willing to install the software for them because you feel it's
ethically wrong, let them set it up themselves.
Subtle but sensible. +1 for trinux.
--- CLOSED ---
I decided to remove my virtual machine, because I would install non-free
software.
I choose KVM now to test some linux settings, so I need no sound.
Which torrent was that? (There's 5*2 options.)
That translation issue is known.
I think I agree, Trisquel, Debian and Ubuntu are on top of the GNU/linux
core.
Perhaps try deleting the Trisquel related cookies and then try again.
Abrowser 34 is available on Trisquel 6. Some of the repositories are lagging
behind and don't have the latest packages. You might want to switch to main
(Spanish) repos.
The translation issue is normal and known. I
Thank you lembas. I've updated to abrowser 34 now. However, this was not the
issue. The issue was that I was not allowing any cookies from any site. Happy
to say I'm replying on my preferred machine.
With regard to the 'vlc web plugin' issue. If you search for that under

I have to agree with post #1 here. If the machine is not yours, let them do
as they wish, assuming you have explained your choices and desire to install
only software that respects their freedoms. Let them install Win, a non-free
GNU/Linux, whatever, and take full responsibility for it.
tomlukey - netflix you substitute with popcorn time

I don't like how the one at popcorn-time.se has different version numbers for
binaries on different systems. Does anyone know what this means? I get the
feeling that the developers of this particular fork don't care much about
GNU/Linux.
This fork seems to me to be better:

So I have a question, I just tried the live CD full version on my laptop and

Does this mean I should be ok to blow windows from my hard drive and install

Also I tried to use the hwinfo command but was

I'd install Trisquel as second system first, and see how things works. If
everything is fine, just install it again, it's a pretty fast and painless
process.
1. Is trisquel an adequate OS for fist time users with no previous experience

2. If trisquel is not an appropriate OS for first time users can I get some

Netflix uses digital restriction mechanisms, and it's not feasible to come up
with a way to break the handcuffs, because they can be changed on a whim. So
no libre software can access Netflix videos.

It's important that if someone tries to give you an ultimatum like get this

that cannot be legislated away. I was not online during the Napster years,

its licenesed under the gplv3
why is it not in trisquels repo's??
It's hard to say; there might be something that you're just not noticing. But
you can just strink the partition Windows is on to something really small,
and put Trisquel in the remaining space. After you've used Trisquel for a

As Magic Banana says in post #13, As a relative new-comer, you'd have an
