I've also lowered the price of the 2nd extra batteries to 25 EUR (previously
it was 98 EUR). So now you can get a few hours of extra freedom too :)
I've re-added the 8GiB RAM option on Minifree's T400 product. They too were
hard to find, but a lot of people were asking about them - I therefore went
to every supplier I could find and bought 8GiB RAM upgrade kits.
So now you can get 8GiB of freedom :)
Thanks! Yes, we were planning to add most of the things you suggested as

this is my vim setup. it very much mimics the "atom" editor on github as much

Hi Newgnu,
Actually, sound out of the speakers should work perfectly. I've had a word
with my employee who set up your laptop and told him: test the speakers
before shipping laptops. He was testing everything else, but overlooked the
speakers. This won't happen again.

It should arrive some time next week.

Hi,
Libreboot is a libre BIOS/UEFI replacement that I and others work on. One of

Yes, on average we ship batteries that are about 50Wh, often more. 3+ hours
is what you should expect from the new battery. I'll email you as soon as
I've shipped it.
I'm testing some batteries for you now. I'll make sure to ship you a good
one. Due to high order volume we go by best estimation and probability of
reliability; we don't usually ship bad batteries.
Your replacement battery will be sent out via UPS, like the original laptop.
Though, you
For you, I would probably recommend the SSD for Trisquel (/ and swap), and
the 1TB HDD for extra data storage (/home). RAID is only really used in

I use a T400 myself and don't really notice any issues (and I'm a heavy user

Trisquel 7, by default, disables the "tap" feature that would let you tap the
touchpad to perform a click. So it's less likely that you would have that
issue with accidentally moving the cursor.
Yes, that's definitely not right. I'll ship another wifi chip along with your
battery, with instructions for how to install it.
(if you break anything when installing it, I'll fix it for free. It's easier
this way than sending it back through customs)
For instance, wear leveling means that parts of your data might be stored on
the drive and you have no way of wiping it, when the controller in the SSD

I'll get your order shipped as quickly as possible.
I was working on improvements to Libreboot's hosting infrastructure during

I looked up my records, and I think I know who you are; I've added a note to

For most people, no real performance issues will be noticed with HDDs.
Applications are cached in memory during normal operation, for programs that
you're running regularly. So if you're usually running a browser and an email

300 MHz gain (T9600 vs SP9600) doesn't seem a lot to trade for a much lighter
and thinner laptop.
What is the most powerful CPU you are using now in your librebooted laptops?
/tct
I think now I understand your question. The mainboards of other laptop models
are not compatible with the T400s chassis.
/tct
SP9600 (6M Cache, 2.53 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB) is the most powerful processor that
is soldered on the T400s boards. It is equivalent to the T9400 CPU upgrade in
the T400.
/tct
What CPU has your T400s?
@GNUbahn Yes, T400s doesn't have soldered RAM. It has two upgradable memory
slots.
@Heather T400s, T410s, T420s and T430s all have two upgradable memory slots,
and no RAM is soldered on the board. The T440s is the first in the series to
have 4GB soldered on the board and only one

Hi Tiberiu,
Note that we prefer GNU Free Documentation License v1.3 or higher, without
invariant sections, for the libreboot documentation.

Feel free to post here your review once it arrives.
Hi Tiberiu,
Can you also document (ideally with photos too) how to flash the T400S?
libreboot.org documents T400 flashing, but not T400S. T400S requires heavy
amounts of soldering and the procedures differ a lot.
The documentation on libreboot.org is in Markdown and easy to modify. See:

Tiberiu,
Alyssa Rosenzweig, Libreboot's sysadmin and spokesperson, just emailed me.
She CC'd you too.
She yelled at both of us, telling us we went too far, that we are both being
childish and that we shouldn't fight.
And I'm inclined to agree. Let's end this here. Alyssa has interjected
interesting.
Indeed. I worked hard for a solid 3-4 months getting X200 stable in
Libreboot. Another 2 for the others (T400, R400, T500 - I still plan to port
R500 at some point, whenever I have the time). Tiberiu then starts also
selling Libreboot, thus competing with Minifree. He then tries to claim
I'm not sure it matters. As far as I know, all board revisions should work.
What were you wrong about?
Tiberiu, this is the truth:
if Minifree went bankrupt tomorrow, i wouldn't care. it wouldn't be the end
of the world. My resume is quite impressive at this point and I could easily
get a job. And there are plenty of other profitable businesses that I could

yes. that's the impression i get

i'm quite happy for tiberiu to make a tidy profit on the T400S and other

i care a lot less

I'm not sure about Trisquel, but it might be possible to use Parabola on one.
It supports BBB, which uses the same ARMv7 CPU
i use syncthing myself and i can definitely recommend it
have a look at openstreetmap
gnulux, i can definitely vouch for G41M libreboot if you want a cheap libre

this is also present on other distros that i've tested. maybe even parabola.

if you have separate drives encrypted, then yes you have to unlock all of

However, it should be possible to unlock just one of them and have a keyfile
