I know.
'AAA' implies quality, and I said We got Freedoom, bitches! implying that
Freedoom was of higher quality than an AAA game in a half-jest half-not-jest
manner.
Yea, it's pretty awesome. :)
I've played Odamex with some great WADs- it's perfect.
I'd recommend installing the software from source or DEB files instead.
If it's possible, you could also use Tor/Proxychains/VPN.
I'm pretty sure Jodie's post was in jest.
... Right?
I'm using a Snares myself, and it's fantastic. Excellent build quality, great
support. Support has all the answers and commonly responds quickly.
Some Free Software alternatives:
JACK / qjackctl (the GUI for JACK), the tool for interconnecting audio,
MIDI, and sync between applications
Hydrogen Drum Machine
Ardour, the terrific, all-free DAW
Rakarrack, a free guitar effects tool set for Linux (one new to me, in fact!)
ZynAddSubFX,
Licensing? Well, it's all libre, except for the BIOS, and it works with
Trisquel out of the box. I'm not sure if that's what you meant, though.
And I use it for home use and such- it's my primary computer.
I've tried it- setting up my wifi was utter hell, as it kept complaining my
wireless was Not Ready-
when that passed, Parted said it formatted my hard-drive, but it did not.
I'll try again next version...
Hm. It'd be nice if MSFT would replace or rid of the non-free Google
libraries in Cyanognemod. They probably would replace them with new non-free
libraries, though...
For the Trisquel laptop, install Popcorn Time. It'll allow her to ditch
Netflix. Note that Popcorn Time is pirating, and as such has a better
selection and interface than Netflix. You should use a VPN+Popcorn TIme.
Sorry, forgot to mention that.
I'd be interested to see your configs. There isn't anything much better than
spending a weekend getting the perfect setup, right? :)
A good book I started about a week ago was Linux from Scratch (Ahem,
publisher, don't you mean GNU/Linux from Scratch? :p)- it goes into detail
about how the kernel works, how GNU/Linux boots, and the basics of using it.
I literately haven't seen a single productive enterprise use of a Smart TV.
True minmalism is xmonad, and xmonad is beautiful. =w=
Don't get me wrong. I still see free software as a good thing. But know that
you are not entitled to it. It is a bonus, and not a right.
Nor are we entitled to freedom of speech. Move to Russia.
If by All-In-One you mean a laptop, tablet, and (if you plug it into a
monitor) desktop, then I have one I use all the time.
I have two Fujitsu Lifebook P6300's- one I use as a desktop, and the other as
a tablet/laptop. It works 100% out of the box with Trisquel.
By default, they come with 1GB
Wow. Um.
I don't know what to say.
Quite literately, my grandmother operates Trisquel perfectly, but I digress-
what about Sugar?

Same here. It was working an hour or so ago, what happened?
The colouring is great, and helps excellent posts shine, etc.
The voting also helps show what people agree with, but the hiding is, in my
opinion, bad, and kind of annoying.
The source tends to be a little more up-to-date than the packages, so that's
a little incentive to do so.
I think using a reputable VPN is fair enough- if anyone got into any trouble
via the VPN connection, or any evidence at all was gained that the VPN was
snooping, it'd go out of buisness pretty much overnight. I think the risk
would be too great for the VPN host, so they probably wouldn't
It can do computational tasks, you can program it to do just about anything
lightweight... I don't really understand how the Freerunner isn't a

Replicant works with a few 'smart' phones to make fully free computers with
phones. Wifi and videos don't work, though, but it's good enough.
And yea, don't trust any VPN operator with your life. Whistle-blowers and
such should gravitate towards Tor, and people that need every-day anominity
Well, it'd still be Free Software, regardless of the graphical assets and
such- but the free culture aspect could be shakey. There are some that care
greatly about keeping their system 100% free culture and free software, so
that's something to keep in mind.
The usage of the characters- the
This sounds like the type of thing a VPN is for. Tor is for fairly light
web-browsing, not anominity for every task you can think of. In this case I'd
recommend getting a reputable VPN.
You could instead just get a Wifi USB dongle at ThinkPenguin- that way you
won't need any proprietary firmware.
Rainteller just got unfriend-zoned. :c
Congratz! :)
I think it's kind of fair to consider the lack of features a good thing- too
often do I see people that take out their phones every couple of seconds,
even during conversations.
PS: You could get some manga to supplement the lack of anime, either by
actual print copies or by
What exactly is non-free about ChromiumOS? I presume the kernel is, but I
can't find anything else.
Whenever you're tempted by a proprietary application, look for alternatives.
For example, you could've installed Chromium, the Free Software version of
Chrome. (Although it recommends proprietary plugins. Beware.)
Agreed- if it weren't for Ubuntu, I would've never learnt about the Free
Software movement if I never used Ubuntu.
But hush, for we cannot publicly support Ubuntu in the slightest, lest we be
portrayed as hypocritical!
SuperTramp just got friend-zoned.
:c
Yea, that's the one. :p
Pencil is an easy Free Software animation program.
I had to go through some scary things to get Trisquel set up on a friend's
laptop, much like you do.
The BIOS settings threw some scary Warning messages, but when I disabled
the option that's cryptically named, the USB worked.
Clear Secure Boot Keys is the option you want. It'll let you use
Same thing over here. There's no way to convince them or any such thing. It's
their freedom and privacy they're ridding of.
I tried telling my family about these things, but they all don't care about
privacy. At all. They have this I have nothing to hide, privacy doesn't
exist mentality, and
Oh. That's bad.
Perhaps explain to them why privacy is important, and maybe they'll start to
care. Maybe.
They want phones, tablets, TVs, and PCs to all be Ubuntu devices.
I find it kind of humorous about how toward the beginning of Ubuntu Canonical
touted the proprietary software as temporary compromise, and how Canonical
was actually striving for a Free Software world... but now Canonical just
Ak! Not you, too, YoHoo! Don't leave the Church of Emacs!
Don't be a heathen!
:p (I jest, I jest)
That was the plan for LibertyBSD, wasn't it?
I guess it'd work, but not without some exposure or advertising.
Perhaps it'd also work in increments. Say, the program is released, but extra
features are under delayed release?
Seconded. It's not 'complete' (Hence why it's not on the FSF-approved distro
list), but it's still great. Not the most user-friendly distro, so don't hand
a CD out to a friend unfamiliar with GNU/Linux.
(I'm in the dust, sorry- the package manager and the Guix distribution are
fantastic, but
As stated above, your AMD graphics will probably not work perfectly, like 3D
acceleration.
I'd recommend replacing the AMD graphics with Intel graphics- you can do so
for pretty cheap.
It's AMD's fault for not supporting Linux-Libre...
For wifi, if it doesn't work, you can get a USB wifi
The one in the PPA is 3.12, the one in the repo is 3.10.
Most people won't care about the differences, but when I used GNOME the
differences were glaring.
orthogonal here deblobbed OpenBSD, making a 100% Free Software BSD version,
of which he called LibertyBSD.
It has no deblobbed ports tree or deblobbed documentation, but it's OK for
now.

Really odd side-note:
THANK YOU for using .net instead of .com!
.com is for companies!
.org is for organizations!
.net is for everything else!
All too often websites use .com when they should be using .net- thank you for
selecting the right one.
I'm pretty sure it's purged because Chromium recommends non-free plugins.
I also set up a mirror at

Note that a fair amount of (Older, about 2007 or so) Flash games still work
with Gnash, so they won't have to give up entirely on Flash games.
Nice to see it's still active!
Blag 2000 comes with GNOME 3 (non-fallback) by default, right?
That's nice.
They're under the Discontinued filter, and they're out of stock.
ThinkPenguin has great laptops or desktops- they all are made to work with
the Linux-Libre kernel, and 100% Free Software.
I think he means that if you click a link to a YT video in Abrowser or

I don't know of any such extension, sorry.

I'd recommend against installing it in VirtualBox. If you intend to replace
Windows with GNU/Linux, just install Trisquel on your PC.
Running it in VirtualBox is a hassle and waste of time you don't have to go
through.
If you *REALLY* want to, use GNUPG to check the ISO, but I *highly*
To be honest, this is a step you can skip. The image is *probably* in tact
perfectly, so can be skipped. Note, that the image *may not* be in tact
perfectly. I've installed Trisquel many times perhaps unwisely without
checking the images downloaded and nothing's gone wrong.
Wow, I love these little posts- they really make this a community. :)
I used Steam for a while. Not the worst DRM in the world, at the very least.
My laptop (From ThinkPenguin!) has proprietary firmware and BIOS. It's pretty
much impossible to escape proprietary firmware, although a little easier to
escape proprietary BIOS, as Libreboot works with a few laptops.
Even if I chucked my phone out the window I'd still be using proprietary
I meant outdated, such as when Ubuntu 14.04 replaced 12.04, and software
began to not have binaries for 12.04, and therefore Trisquel 6.
I'm pretty sure it is. The FSF offered it as an alternative to the iPhone 3
in their statement on it- they recommended Freerunner with Replicant.
I use Trisquel rather than Debian because:
-Some projects don't have binaries for Debian, but have ones for ubuntu
derivatives,, so you save time you would otherwise be spending compiling.
-PPAs work with Trisquel by default, no tweaking required.
-It doesn't have non-free repositories.

You can't say one thing and then do the other.
If you take the stance of the Open-Source fence-sitters, who say It's
great if it's 'open-source', but it's alright if it's proprietary- in an
ideal world, though, all software would be open.
If you take that position, nothing will change, and

LibreJS doesn't complain.)
Yup! Have a great one, everyone!
Thanks for the great essay- I'm now convinced that I should keep LibreJS
enabled.
orthogonal released the cd56.iso- I did a quick comparison of OpenBSD's ISO
and LibertyBSD's ISO:
LibertyBSD:

OpenBSD:

That's all the comparison that's possible without the source code.
I've been curious about BSD myself, and just a couple weeks ago though
something akin to If only there was a BSD variant that respected freedom and
wouldn't recommend proprietary software- well, now there is, I hope.
The fact that they are demanding three BitCoins is rather fishy- I'm
A great amount of websites. From the top of my head, pretty much everything

Why not simply sell the CDs...?
Why fork OpenBSD, recreating the efforts of the (Already released) NuBSD
project?
I meant selling CDs of LibertyBSD, rather than asking for 3BTC for the
release to happen...

I've attempted to manually install Wine as well, but I
