Following the steps in the tutorial solved the VPN connection issue for me.

Hi all,
today I've tried setting up a VPN on my ThinkPad T400 using the
network-manager.
Following this tutorial
(https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/linux-import-openvpn-ovpn-file-with-networkmanager-commandline/)
I've imported the respective .ovpn files and added my user credentials in the
I have not solved the problem. I have UFW set to default and have not listed
any rules, as I'm not sure how to do so yet. My vpn has a tutorial to set up
Wireguard using terminal and I hope to connect using that format. Mullvad
offers a GUI for linux that I may try if I cannot manually set Wi
So did you actually solved the problem?
I use ProtonVPN via OpenVPN. It gets connected, but cannot resolve any hosts.
How did you configure the netfilter?
Yes. I didn't realize Netfilter was in the kernel.
I have skimmed though the F.A.Q and documentation but not intensively. I have
Trisquel Mini on another low-powered machine and have made a few tweaks. I
really enjoy both and think Trisquel is the best GNU/Linux distro.
I'm familiar with Guf
After more research, I found that Trisquel doesn't implement a firewall by
default during installation. Using Synaptic, I installed GUFW. I'm still not
sure why my VPN will connect, but blocks all requests (this happened before
GUFW). It may require permissions or need to be set-up using term
I installed Openvpn and set up my vpn config file to a particular server. I
can connect to the server, but I cannot connect to any webpages in Abrowser.
Is there a firewall setting or another type of setting that is blocking the
browser when I'm connected to the vpn?
Thanks
For some reason the OP did not show up on the forum. Here is the list

Do you mean that you have a VPN and need to download a VPN client, or
that you don't have a VPN and want one?

What program is sending you to openvpn.net?

Yeah! Isn't that neat? Air are also hardliners about net neutrality. After
reading the first few posts of this forum thread, see Staff's rebuttal to the

I just + voted your post so is back to 0...;-)
Did you accidentally create this double post or did the software do it?
Right, just asking because there was a problem with the forum software making
dupes. Good to hear this was a good old fashioned man made error! :)

I can't make a recommendation solely on price, but, imho, AirVPN
(http://airvpn.org/) should probably be on your short list of providers to
consider. Ethical, competent, and the client software (Eddie) is GPL
licensed and works very well with Trisquel.
Check this VPN Comparison Chart: http://is.gd/wWXFVS
My preference is Mullvad but it is a bit more pricey than PIA.
If you want a better and cheaper alternative than PIA. I would suggest
FrootVPN.com (Sweden) or Privatoria.net (Czech Republic).
privacytools.io has a list of "good" VPN providers, starting at $36/year.
Thanks I will considered it. Are there servers free software too?
My subscription to My Private internet Access will be ending soon. What is a
good cheap encrypted, no logging, shared ip vpn? Or are they the cheapest?
Also I have a friend from peru who is interested in a cheaper vpn. What vpn
service would you recommend for them? They would like something c
