You can find the GRUB username/password for your install in

Did you get the syntax right when you issued the command? See the manual page
for the correct syntax. And should not the group be george instead of

The permissions won't get automatically changed. There's no such logic at

Actually I believe it's a feature of the bittorrent protocol so any client

Does it resume when not using the lid?
Hello and welcome! The hardware question is always tricky, especially so if
you use a fully free distro. I guess the by far easiest option would be to
get a laptop from Thinkpenguin, they have a banner ad on this page on the
right side column. Click that banner and Trisquel will get a part
Just hope that /dev/sdb isn't their hard disk!
Which torrent was that? (There's 5*2 options.)
That translation issue is known.
Perhaps try deleting the Trisquel related cookies and then try again.
Abrowser 34 is available on Trisquel 6. Some of the repositories are lagging
behind and don't have the latest packages. You might want to switch to main

The translation issue is normal and known. I
Glad you sorted the login issue. I filed a bug about the missing addon.

Are they proprietary?
All things included in Trisquel are supposed to be free. If you find evidence
to the contrary, file a bug and any non-free content will be removed.
When running on the LiveCD it looks as though I'll be allowed to try to
reformat sda6 (to fat32, I hope) because it's unmounted right now.
Yes.
If gparted can do that without destroying whatever data that 300MB
represents on the unmounted sda6, then I'd shrink the reformatted sda6

Wow, we're pretty anal today it seems... Now, let's see, first did he

This is great news, so glad to hear Trisquel is flourishing!
Thank you for sharing this here with us mere mortals as well! :)
I hope you can strike the correct balance between paranoia and naïveté
regarding the openness of the system, surely not an easy task. Trust, but
verify and all that.
When dealing with ethics there are always difficult decisions to be made. And
not making a decision is also making a decision (to not decide).
I think this discussion is pretty similar to the older open source/free

Hi there! :)
Trisquel uses sudo, so it's your password all the time. There root password
is locked by default as you can see in /etc/shadow.
The GRUB password mentioned in /etc/grub.d/01_PASSWORD works in ... GRUB!
Perhaps you should ask specific help with what you're actually trying to do.
I've read the GFSD [1] and I don't think there is a problem.
1. Looks like the notice says that the credentials and cookies will be stored
on your computer and will not be accessed by Canonical in any other way. The
GFSD mentions malware but I don't think this qualifies.

I was hesitant to mark it as a dupe as it included other concerns besides the

During the recent grub updates on Trisquel 6 the installer asked if I wanted
to change some config file as my differed from what was in the package and I
asked to see the diff, however that was never shown. The next time I rebooted
I was shown the grub menu unlike before.
I'm afraid that doesn't mean anything to me. Perhaps somebody with more
insight will come along and see this.
I believe threads get automatically locked when they get old enough. Not sure
if this is a useful feature.
Nope.
What exactly lags? GNOME is a huge project with dozens of component programs.
Obviously the worst thing about proprietary JavaScript is that it's
proprietary. You don't have the 4 freedoms.
Besides that JavaScript can be used for snooping various things, some listed

This certainly is true and a good point. However many of those are also
applicable to manual reporting as we see with the AMD cards that supposedly

to be kept strictly separate from the manual reports. However I

Yes, when you install Debian you install only FLOSS. Just like Trisquel.
Then you can install non free software if you want to. Just like Trisquel.
So, I don't understand why so much hate towards Debian (without which,
Trisquel wouldn't exist).
Here we go once again.
Or perhaps people falsely believe they have hardware acceleration if they
have a beefy CPU and the software acceleration is fast enough. (If so,
obviously they didn't push the systems too hard.) The entries are incorrect
as davidnotcoulthard stated.

I've heard people like Lyx an almost WYSIWYG-frontend for LaTeX. It's
available in the repos and the package is called lyx.
Can the Trisquel people please ask if it is possible to include this new

It's not a new certificate but old cipher suite. If somebody should update,
it's t-online.
You might want to read these and include them in your email

I always try to do without JS so this will come handy! Thank you!
Gentlemen please. I wish you'd try to put aside your disagreements and

I too had a similar problem is some older version of Trisquel and found the
same solution on an old HP dv5000 laptop.
In the old Nautilus you could do this.
Well that's good then. However I notice it has anti-theft whatever that
means.
I think having such an alias is not a good idea. Sooner or later you'll be

Ah! I forgot all about that bit...
Glad to hear it's working.

One thing you could further try with radeon unblacklisted is adding the

You need to edit (as superuser) /etc/default/grub and add nomodeset to the

Then exit and save and run (as superuser) update-grub
And reboot.
