It works fine on my 7.1.6 and 7.2.0.
Any error messages?
VOC entries for HELP or HELP.FILE invalid? (HELP is globally catalogues and
HELP.FILE is in the sys sub-directory).

Here are 2 dicts I created for the CUSTOMER file in the DEMO account. I didn't
try them with ODBC though.
They both work with the CATEGORIES_LIKED field in <9> of the CUSTOMER file.

This one puts everything in one "blob" with the MV lines now separa

Here's the error. I got this from the UniDK/include/Uvoaif file.
UVE_SR_SLAVE_EXEC_FAIL = 39204' The slave failed to start correctly
Unfortunately, just as an out of context error message, I don't know
what it means. Maybe someone else can pick it up from here.

I wanted to send a note on this much earlier, but have been tied up until
now. We can't certify that other solutions, such as C.R., will work with
our products, but we really do want them to work. It sort of makes sense
that we would, because if our customers can't succeed with their
solution
In the past that we can used HELP at the colon prompt to get information
about UniQuery or UniBASIC functions.
Once we switch over from 6.x to 7.1.8 and now we lost the HELP function.
Any ideas why this happen or this is something that Unidata is doing?

"Tiger Logic" is simply a name change from "Raining Data" (IMO
only one of two good business decisions they've made in recent
years). They acquired
Hi Colin,
Your idea sounds like it would fix my problem.

Can you show me an example?
I have built some simple I-desc's, but I'm pretty weak at it.

I cannot seem to find any reference to this error number, the
documentation goes from 39204 to 39210
Does anyone know what this error means?
Thanks

Charles:
Isn't there a little .NET program on the IBM site that will test connection
pooling? I'm sure I downloaded it and ran it to test the pooling license I
have. Unfortunately, I upgraded my HDD and reloaded what I use every day
but not this code.

Remember - in the SQL world the order of data in the file is defined as
unimportant. The MV's imply an order that is lost when "converted" to SQL.
You can either create an associated I-desc that has the mv position (instead
of actually adding the field for the line counter - which we actually have
Bear in mind that ODBC is relational is set-oriented. There is NO CONCEPT
WHATSOEVER of "order" in sets, therefore if stuff comes out correctly ordered
it *must* *be*, *by* *definition*, down to pure chance (or an accident of
implementation).
If you want to guarantee it, you need to add an extr
We have that same issue with our ODBC connection and Access. We have
tried adding a field for a line counter, which works but is cheesy. We
also have one or two that we write twice, one MV and one SV. Neither
solution is that graceful.

Hi Bjorn,
This is how the language is defined to work.
A lock is, to some extent, associated with a particular opening of a file
via its file variable. Closing the file either explicitly or as a result of
discarding the file variable on leaving the subroutine will give away any
locks taken ag

That is working as it should. To preserve the lock, pass the file variable
to the called routine or hold it open in common. Locks are released when a
file is explicitly closed or the file variable goes out of scope.

Thanks, guys. As usual, the list was full of useful information.
I came in this morning and changed my program to use OS-level copy
commands instead of the UV COPY and it worked perfectly. I had always
used the COPY command (even on type 1 and type 19 files) in my programs
and it never occurred
Closing a file apparently releases all the locks. There's an implied close in
read_prog, therefore the lock gets released.
To fix it, you need to remove the OPEN in read_prog, either by opening the file
in COMMON or passing the file pointer as an argument.
Yup, I agree that behaviour *might* be
