Sounds like the sky is falling. This is by no means a unique
situation, this works well on numerous other lists (that I subscribe
to) so why not this one? Surely the subscribers are not that silly. I
know the average age of the Universe/Unidata afficionado is slowly
creeping upward, but this
This is a relatively minor change and the dark side of the force seem to
be gathering strength against it. The list headers still have the u2ug
address in them and your rules should still apply. If not, then change
them so they do!
Perhaps the dark side haven't really explained themselves well

soon
though. :-)

I've noticed a number of people bemoaning the fact that the archive
server does not appear to available. If you wish, you can use
http://news.gmane.org to search there as an alternative.
Select gmane.comp.db.u2.general as the group to either read or search

Hi Bruce,
Perhaps IBM (and the other majors as they are not the only ones that are
guilty of this) could take a leaf out of the opensource handbook. Look
at the documentation/instructions/examples/assistance that comes with

Hi Phil,
We looked at this a while ago and asked the question. The response is to
use the clients licence to access the knowledgebase. We provide
support for a number of u2 sites but cannot get any direct access. This
tends to make it difficult for call logging etc. however to give IBM
their due,
Further to this, you could also use the !GET.PATHNAME subroutine to get
the path and filename. A quick way to check rather than the expense of a
DB level OPEN.

Hi Jeff,
If you can't get ODBC to work and access directly that way, try running
psql as a shell command. You could build up a little SQL to insert the
data you need and then execute it as a shell eg. EXECUTE 'echo MYCMD |
psql -h hostname other parameters'. I'm a universe person so not sure

Do you really want the full content or do you want the answer? I don't
disagree about Ray W's postings however it stops all the out of office

I think it was AT T who architected (I checked at dictionary.com,

as hidden files and if you wish to read them then there isn't much

Please remember that this will open port 23 to everybody coming in from

access. If you are coming from a static IP perhaps you can restrict
access to that IP only.

Hi Bill,
rcp or scp should copy a complete tree (and keep the permissions
correct) if you use the -rp options
Are you unable to copy direct from your old to the new? Most of the

Hi Bob,
A 64bit file has a very large capacity. The 64 bit number is binary so
every bit = 1 greater power of 2. Whereas 2,147,483,648 = 2^31 then
9,223,372,036,854,775,808 = 2^63. A very big number indeed. The reason
it is 31 and 63 is that the leftmost bit generally signifies the sign of

Hi Louis,
Try starting the spooler with a -t option. This will print all jobs out
in time sequence order (in other words the order in which they were
spooled). Without it the spooler will print the small jobs first
gradually moving to the larger ones.

Hi,
You should use ssh because it is encrypted during the
handshakes/authentication phase etc. ssh uses port 22. I use Putty as a
client as this works as a telnet/ssh or other type client and is free.
Download the latest version at
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html
Does he check the name rather than the IP address? If he can do a dns

Hi Ang,
To change to a 64bit file just put 64BIT on the end of the resize
command. The documentation is in the USER REFERENCE book. The manuals
are available at http://www-306.ibm.com/software/data/u2/pubs/library/
In order to tell a 32bit file from a 64bit file, you can use filepeek

Hi David,
I would suggest an ssl/ssh component using a 1024bit key or similar. You
can get an OCX from http://www.weonlydo.com/index.asp?showform=SSH I
don't use VB but use ssh with 1024bit RSA encrypted keys and this seems
to be pretty useful at keeping the riffraff out.

Hi David,
Try using fixtool instead. You can run this from the uvadmin screen and
this will do the consistency checks that you need. This is the tool that
is now preferred at version 10 AFAIK. uvfixfile also doesn't cope too
well with 64bit files whereas fixtool is quite happy. I think it is

Hi Al,
Just use a phantom writing the data to a file and then import it to
Excel for graphing. You can use the following code

Hi David,
This magic file works with UV10, at least 10.0.8 on Tru64, I set it up
to work with Rel 10 and then Glenn sent me the rest of the stuff to
incorporate into a file that should cover everything. Does 64 bit as
well.

Hi Eugene,
You could try running PTERM CASE NOINVERT at the TCL prompt and see if
this improves things. I have this in my LOGIN VOC entries because I
don't like the way the case inverts when you move from unix to universe.
This will stop that. Otherwise try the help screen for PTERM and see if
In fact I have 2 instances of Apache running on my notebook under XP

I also have ActivePerl installed and they work well together.

Hi Simon,
Use filepeek or similar to modify a files pointer. eg. Change a backward
or forward link to point to junk. Copy the file at the unix level and
you will be able to recreate as you require.
