RE: InValid Characters
As I understand it (and I'm probably wrong), the UV command editor will convert from one form to the other (but not the other way round). So if you use (I think it's this way round) EDIT_LIST and it can't find it, it will try EDIT.LIST. I was only ever used to the dot versions on PI, so they're the only ones I use. Just checked our VOC, and we have CLEARSELECT, CLEARSTACK, and CLEARDATA, which gets me well confused - no dot *or* underscore ... :-) Cheers, Wol -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Susan Lynch Sent: 09 February 2004 17:16 To: U2 Users Discussion List Subject: Re: InValid Characters Tim, Thanks - I just looked at CTLGTB and there is an entry there for both. Re: InValid Characters
Tim, UD 6.0.6 (but, if I remember correctly, this was true on the release 5 that we came from as well, and our standard policy is to uninstall and re-install Unidata for a new release, which should have replaced CTLGTB). This being my first experience with the Unidata flavor, I thought it was standard behavior - annoying but standard. So, rather than set up what I thought was a non-standard synonym (and have to set up on all the customer machines as well, if one of my colleagues started using it), I was just avoiding editing lists. The synonym entry in the VOC does work as expected. Susan M. Lynch F.W. Susan, That all looks like what I'm seeing on a system here, and both EDIT-LIST and EDIT.LIST work fine. What platform, UDT release, etc. are you working with? Just for giggles, it may be interesting to create a synonym VOC entry for EDIT-LIST that looks like this: 1: S 2: EDIT.LIST If that works, it may help track this down. Re: InValid Characters
Mark, You are correct about EDIT.LIST, but the systems I work on don't have EDIT-LIST, and I never think to change the punctuation and try the revised form of the commands - I grew up on EDIT-LIST and SAVE-LIST, etc. I keep forgetting that someone one of the predecessor products decided to move away from the standard Pick spelling of the commands. You might have to work around the good keys and bad keys getting selected (see if you can save the list, edit the good ones out, and get the list; otherwise, copy them to some other place.) If that doesn't work, oftening copying all the items in the file to another file will not copy the bad ones; then just do a clearfile and copy what's left back again. Good luck.
