new, latest model PC and start from scratch.

Thanks for your advice. I believe that I will find a way to wire-connect
eventually, meanwhile I will try the WiFi USB adaptor.

This responds to Lindsay about USB connection with my new modem. I've
tried it many times with no result. Also the bash command which
lists all USB ports and what they connect shows nothing.

That is the state of play. Thank you Daniel and others. No more

Thank you all for your messages. I will respond to each in turn. Firstly
please note that the Huqwei (Broadcom) modem is working perfectly. It
connects to the Internet which can be reached by any PC or mobile phone
which is WiFi-enable (i.e. has an inbuilt WiFi module or a USB WiFi
adaptor). M
'Mobile Broadband' editing window and I
presume that I should continue to do so. As there is no connection I do
not have cannot read the connection information of course.
Your assistance in solving this problem is requested. Thank you,

itioning. I may try
installing one of the Linux OSs from an image iso - again! As I have
said, previous attempts have not been successful because they would not
boot, this despite the fact that they appear OK. I'll get there eventually.

Software apps have stopped working (a first time event for me). This
leaves me in a 'Catch 22' situation. As the 17.04 iso image won't boot I
have ordered a 32-bit disk from Peter Baker using the on-line source

Calc files must use direct cell references it would seem. By
direct I mean A1 for example. This closes this issue.

Your advice would be appreciated. Believe me, correcting this
misbehaviour is extremely tedious.

file size must be kept down. Hence the need to reduce a
1Mb camera photo to, say 100kb. The facility to modify the image file
name as well was useful.
I have noted Phatch too for future reference.

in 14.04 LTS that I am using, although a search on the Internet states
that it was in Lucid 10.04. There are other such tools, one of which I
have for Windows. However I would like one for Linux. Does 14.10 have
something else that will do the job?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Hello Paul, One more thing. When installing the latest updates and just
before failure it was "running post-installation trigger dpkg-exec".

Hello Paul, Here are the results of commands requested., the last not
looking useful but perhaps it tells you something,

Sorry Paul. I wrote down exactly as you said and then typed something
different and illogical.
Here is the latest result from Terminal:

As I suspect that someone has done this already in Australia I request
assistance from the Ubuntu-AU community.
