Ah, solved! I had dapper lines in my sources.list to keep track of a few
packages which hadn't been upgraded to edgy until a few days ago.
Somehow, this made apt believe it had unsolved dependencies. An apt-get
dist-upgrade wanted to remove a few packages to be able to install
sysvinit. I don't

I am not able to reproduce that. I just started evince 0.6.1-0ubuntu1
and choose Edit-Toolbar, the 'Zoom In' and 'Zoom Out' buttons are both
listed and I can add them to the toolbar.

yeah, this bug occurs with pretty much all compsite managers, i had it
with xcompmgr (breezy), compiz (breezy/dapper), and now beryl (edgy), it
doesn't seem to be a popular bug, for example it hasn't been mentioned
in beryl user forums... but that could be because firefox's autoscroll
isn't

I am seeing the same symptoms, but am not sure this is the same bug. My syslog
shows a problem with reiserfs support in ubiquity and formatting / ext3 works
around the problem. I can't find a similar message in MoMaT's syslog though.

libpisock9 has some API changes, which cause multisync to FTBFS. It was
removed from Debian testing a while back because of this, so is probably
not trivial to fix. Not a whole lot we can do about this one, I'm
afraid.

When I boot from the CD and do the installation again it does not create
a /var/log/installer/syslog, there is just a file called version in this
directory. And on the partition I used for the installation there is no

In edgy, if I run nautilus-script-manager enable Subversion, it
creates the folders '~'/.gnome2/nautilus-script, and puts the symlink
inside. The problem is that it doesn't expand the ~, it creates a
folder literally named '~' (!)
This used to work just fine in dapper, only
I removed the Package python-gtk-1.2. There was no dependency on my
system.
Then apt-get dist-upgrade runs without failure.
Then I have reboot the system. Everything seems to run.

Upgrade failed! Could not install 'python-gtk-1.2'
It allways controls headphones. Connecting headphones doesn't silent
front speakers. What's even worse, muting Front channel doesn't do
that either. Muting source of the sound (PCM, CD, etc.) kills sound on
speakers (and headphones).

Maybe grub has a problem with my hd1, my second S-ATA-HDD, where I
installed Edgy on partition /dev/sdb4. When I do find /var/log/syslog
in the grub command line of the old grub installation, it just finds
this file on various partitions on hd0, none on hd1. I can just change
root (hd1, 0) all
As the reporter of the duplicate said, removing the line set -e at the
beginning of the file fixes the bug and doesn't seem to break anything.
To be sure I downloaded the last upstream release and made a diff, result :
-#set -e
